Will Adding the Black Emporium Unbalance the Game?

I don't believe in balance in a single player game. All previous DA game have featured over the top costly equipment anyway. This one shouldn't be more of a problem.

I liked the banter trigger. Sometime I didn't want to play as much as experience the game, so I would go to one of these spot and go banter time for half an hour or so. Good times.

Why don't you like balance in a game?

Not even remotely true - e.g. Dig out your copy of Origins and have a look at DLC reward items in your inventory: you start with the best armour (blood dragon, battle dress of the provocateur and a hideous green mage robe) in the game, some of the best weapons in the game (reaper's cudgel, a 2h axe, sorrows of arlathan and a shortbow) and about a dozen really OP amulets, belts and trinkets.                                                                                           ^

Well done! Now I have zero reason loot anything, and I feel that the game really benefited from the removal of inventory management.

So please, don't do repeat those errors.

At least with that weapon you had to beat a really tough boss on a high difficulty in a DLC to get it.

Why don't you like balance in a game?

It's not about liking it, it's about whether it's important. If you disapprove of something that, in your view, harms the balance of the gameplay, I'm sure you have the self-control to refrain from using it.

In the multiplayer mode, yes, it's important. Your experience is directly affecting, and affected by, the experience of others. Whether competitive or cooperative, it wouldn't do for a given player to have an unfair advantage due to items, mechanics, or whathaveyou.

But in a single player game, it does not matter. My experience with the single player game does not affect your experience with the single player game. I know I speak for a lot of players when I say that after a certain point, I'm playing the game largely to experience different outcomes. Using cheats or glitches might improve my experience - removing the dupe for example, harmed my experience on subsequent playthroughs. Maybe it's not balanced, but who cares? I'm not playing for achievements or e-peening, and I don't want to have to personally gather every last elfroot required by the continent spanning organization that I lead.

Anyone who wants to abstain from using these items or these glitches is welcome to do so.

Everyone needs to get over "balance" concerns in single player games though, because they don't really matter.

Indeed!

Balance your own game: Don't buy the stuff!

But but... I don't have any self control and can't stop myself from bying those unbalanced items! Therefore I rule that no one else should be able to buy them either. Because I know that my single player experience and what I find fun and less fun in a single player game is the norm for all other gamers in the world, so naturally the single player experience should be tailored according to my liking, for everyone!

Balance only concerns me when there is a competitive aspect. In single player only game, what's the point ?

There has been cheat codes since the dawn of video gaming, some people have run through games completely invulnerable AND had fun. I do not understand it but I see no problem in that. On the other hand if you want to challenge yourself to do something in a game a certain way, go ahead. If some items make the game too easy for you, don't get them, they're not here for you.

As far as I'm concerned I systematically use them in subsequent playthrough. i don't mind a challenging first playthrough, but the only reason I play through a Bioware game after the first go is to explore the story.

Of course balance matters, because the game needs to be balanced for you to have choices - for example, you might have to set up a clever ambush to beat an enemy, and that will be fun if you can pull it off. However, no one would bother with that if they can simply order their incredibly op line infantry to charge head on and win. No one will ever use artillery of frontal assault with infantry is always best. If you are not going to balance these units, you might as well remove artillery completely because no one will ever bother to use it.

If you give the player an incredibly op unit/item/class then all the other units/items/classes will go completely unused.

There has been cheat codes

There is a difference between not using a cheat code which you know is not how the game is meant to be played, and not using a DLC item you got as a reward for buying DLC which you know you are supposed to be using.

Believe you me, for some cheat codes are the way is meant to be played. Not my cup of tea, but everyone is entitled to have fun the way they want.

As for the DLC, they're not exactly forcing you to buy items. I would be ok with you in Mass Effect where the quantity of item is ridiculously low and our budget way over the top so we end up pretty much buying anything. But in dragon Age there is enough items to leave you with choices. Your gold is yours to spend however you like, if you find an item is over the top and will ruin your game, don't buy it, buy something else that will make the game more fun for you.

Hear, hear. i want full plate armor, that's all. Like the black plate that a few Inquisition mooks wear during the prologue, as well as Mercenary commanders in the Hinterlands. The only metal armor we get is scales bound with leather, that's not enough. My warriors are walking tanks and should look the part.

Mage and rogue armor is fine. Warriors that aren't dwarves need some actual armor. Pwetty please Biower?

The weapons in the original BE were so prohibitively expensive that I doubt the majority of players would be able to afford them with no duping or cheating. So no, I wouldn't worry.

Everyone needs to get over "balance" concerns in single player games though, because they don't really matter.

So if the weapons will be so expensive, why add them if 90% of us cannot afford them ? :D

I've never liked cheat codes, if you have to cheat to win, whats the point of playing the game?  Plus you can't use them on consoles.

Removing the exploits already unbalanced the game
They will remove the chest exploit next and in Bioware fashion, no chests will have any items in them

This argument is even less applicable to Dragon Age than most. If I want to play through the game for the 5th time just for the story, it makes it easier and more fun.

If you don't want to use them, cool. Your sincere disapproval of those who might cheat to get some nicer fantasy gold or dragon pants or whatever is very inspiring. I am very inspired. The grandstanding is pretty tiresome, though.

If you feel like the merchandise in the Black Emporium break the balance for you, don't purchase them.

Focus only on the plastic surgery services if you are not satisfied with your initial appearance.

There, solved.

And the point of playing the game is to have fun.

I always feel a little bit annoyed when someone wants to balance my singleplayer game experience...

To answer the question, no, the Black Emporium will not "unbalance" the game.

People who are worried about the balance of a single player game are unbalanced.  If you think something is over powered, don't use it.  It existing will not effect you in any way, and might help some of the less skilled people.  Not me, I beat the game on Nightmare and no I didn't use knight enchanter.  :P

I can't wait to have the face changing options back.  Why was this not in the initial release?  ughies!

Some people like the experience of the game more than the challenge. I know someone who played Doom and Doom II with cheat codes and had a blast. Who are we to say he played "bad" as long as he enjoyed it.

There used to be cheat codes on consoles too IIRC, they have somewhat disappeared from all platforms. PC now benefit from having access to what's under the hood.

If you think something is over powered, don't use it.

This reminds me of the fun I had in my Skyrim playthroughs where all I ever wore as armor was an unenchanted Iron armor. :)

Or how awesome it was in SWTOR at the time when electric staves wouldn't be valid for most double-lightsaber abilities of my Sith Assassin, but I would use an electro staff only nevertheless, to complete my "Imperial Honor Guard" outfit. =]

Just expressing my opinion which I am entitled to do. If you disagree fine, my guess is you can't stand criticism though.
