I read today that after 10 years of writing for Dragon Age that you are moving on. I would like to take a moment here and just say thank you for all the work you've done over these years that has resulted in one of the most realistic and gripping fantasy settings I've ever come across. Dragon Age has held a very special place for me over these years and it has been a privilege to enjoy that which you and the BW team have worked so hard to create. At a time when I thought gaming was behind me Dragon Age Origins changed all of that. I loved the setting, the characters, and the history. I have played through that game fully over 8 times and each time is a wonderful new experience. I never really got too serious about Pen and Paper games until I discovered Green Ronin's Dragon Age game. Now I GM a group that has played the same 3 interconnected stories for years now and never once have they wanted to see the games story played out or be there for game events because the setting is so rich and full that you can just take off down your own path. I'm getting off topic and going on far longer than I should here lol I just wanted to say that I appreciate everything you've done over these years and it's been a privilege. I wish you all the best on your new project.

I would like to echo dark_reaper's appreciation for all that David Gaider has brought to the franchise, and add my best wishes for his new endeavor. He leaves Dragon Age in capable hands. I won't say that nothing will change. Of course, it will. Everything does, and it would even if David were not moving on to something else. I am optimistic that I will continue to love the Dragon Age franchise... and it gives me something to look forward to elsewhere, as well. I know no more about the new IP than anyone else, but with David's solid writing behind it, I'm sure it will be great.

Thank you, David, and thank you, Patrick Weekes, for making Dragon Age such a marvelous, engrossing game.

I would also like to say thank you to Mr Gaider for his work on Dragon Age even if I was very critical with some story elements.
I have enjoyed many of the characters and wish him luck on his new IP.
Good luck also to Patrick Weekes and wait to see how he progresses Dragon Age for the future.

Thank you, David! I loved all your contributions to the DA series including the two books! Even beyond that to past games! It was an honor, and best of luck on your new projects! :)

Yes! Thank you David! I discovered these games during a painful time in my life, and they helped me through it and learn a bit more about myself too. I love them so much, and you will be dearly missed. All the best!

So yet another of the old Bioware guard is leaving? How many is that now, since EA took over? 20?

Best of luck to Gaider, though. I hope to see his work in other games as soon as possible.

Pretty much what has been said! Dragon Age has a special place in my heart as being one of the first major video games I ever played (discounting the old Gameboy Color and Advance XD) and a lot of that is due to the amazing people working on the series. So thank you, David Gaider, for creating such a marvelous world for us players to run around in, and for creating fantastic characters. I look forward to seeing what new top secret project you're working, as now I likely will have another Bioware title to sink my teeth into in the next few years.

Good luck!

He's not leaving leaving, he's moving to a different project. Still with Bioware.

This is the guy largely behind the brilliant Dragon Age world, lore, stories, and characters that we have come to love. 10 Years IS an awful long time to devote to one project. So I thank Mr. Gaider sincerely for his contributions to a game world that I and so many others have become grossly enamored with and I wish him the best of luck in his super-duper-secret future Bioware project. Can't wait to see what else he can bring to the table.

Gonna add my voice to those already expressed here, thank you so much, Mr. Gaider. I've loved every project you've had a hand in for Bioware, everything DA at the forefront among them, and your characters have always been among my favorites per game. Thank you for all the time and effort you've put into the Dragon Age series for the past decade. It has not gone unnoticed, or unappreciated!

While Gaider's influence over DA will be very sorely missed, I'm sure, it's still great to hear he'll be working on a new IP! It's lucky to have him. :) And I'll put my trust in Weekes to take over the DA-mantle and do it justice with future projects.

I liked Gaider's work on the games and the Asunder novel. The new IP has gained a great team member.

And I can't think of anyone more deserving of being a lead writer than Patrick Weekes.

Even despite the fact I was and still am very much disappointed with DAI, I am really sad about David Gaider leaving. It is probably the biggest loss for DA team imaginable, and I now honestly fear for the future of this series even more.

Gaider is leaving? Good news for all of us.

His previous achievements mean nothing after all we had in our throats in DA:I. Being genius isn't an excuse for laziest ever writing in videogames. So hopefully Weekes proves himself more capable.

It's good for Gaider too. New IP is his chance to reclaim his titles as a writer after a disaster DA:I was.

Wow, insulting an amazing writer in a thread devoted to thanking him for the amazing world he's helped shape? Why am I not surprised it's you. Can you do any better writing than Mr. Gaider? Can you create amazing engrossing characters with dimension? Probably not. Go back to your little hole please, your negativity does nothing for anyone except show what a bitter person you are.

Well, I'm happy for Gaider, that he moves forward. Slogging on, in the same project for decades, mostly turns out as missed opportunities in the end.

I think he also does it at the right moment. He didn't leave the sinking ship with DA2. Instead he stayed to see the emergence of a - sort of - great game in DA:I, even if DA:I is very far away from the future of the kind of DA that we discussed back in Bioware's old DA forum, when the game franchise was planned and evolved.

Onwards to greener pastures. It's the right thing to do. The kind of game DA:I is today, the kind of audience it has, I think Gaider would  be a waste, for staying.

Gaider is great with characters and dialogue.  Alastair--just saying.  I'm not so sure that his writing held the same level of consistency once he decided that he had to be a champion of the fans instead of keeping to what worked, but that's the trick of all writers, musicians, etc.  Once they pander to the audience instead of just writing/playing, etc it goes downhill.  It would have happened to Nirvana, too eventually.

He'll have a fresh start somewhere else and do well.  I wish him the best.
