I saw the Emerald Graves one so I thought I'd include something of the dwarven equivalent.

Now, to start off with, I kind of hate exploring the desert-like Western Approach and the Hissing Wastes were really annoying to me when I first started exploring.

However, I started to really appreciate it as I started exploring the ruins and all the lore that is gathered on the dwarves there.

And yeah, that's really my main reason for liking it. I love the new dwarven lore.

Whatever. I appreciate the Hissing wastes for the ruins and the extra lore on dwarves. You don't have to agree with me.

Hissing Wastes is the best.

Best loot (tier 3 masterwork schematics), best merchant, most awesome lore.

And it makes me thirsty.

I loved it! It was so much fun! I felt like Indian Jones looking for the lost Ark! I enjoyed the treasure map hunt and the conversations with Iron Bull about the tombs!

It's one of my favorite places. The night sky is beautiful and it's so big and open. I enjoy the tombs also.

I actually really like the hissing wastes myself.  It allows me to make use of the mounts, which is kind of cool considering the time it takes to mark all those watchtower locations and them build them in the hinterlands so you can get the horsemaster.

I wish they had a mounted combat feature, that would be really cool, but just galloping around in the wide open spaces can be a hoot too I guess.

Personally I prefer the sand. Just desert as far as the eye can see and beautyfull sky above. And that massive moon. Reminds me abit of those trips on the Mako in Mass effect 1. And it's pretty to see the August Rams silhouetted in the moonlight.

But yes. It's a lovely place to relax after a hectic day at Skyhold.

Here is a screenshot, not as pretty as the screen archery threads, and the UI is visible, but still.

Spoiler

The "ghost" is Cole. He likes to be in stealth a lot...it's his own personal stealth that looks different from our normal type stealth.

I love the Hissing Wastes for a couple of reasons.  The night sky made me want to grab Cullen, a blanket and find a secluded dune somewhere :kissing:  I loved the story of Fairel that you discovered from the various tombs, and it was the location where I was able to find all the mosaic pieces for the first time lol

Honestly, I just found the whole place gorgeous...though finding out that the famed "Mabari merchant" was just a change-making dog was a bit disappointing :P

I adore the Hissing Wastes. I can't help unlocking it, even before I get to decent level....so I die. Sometimes.

Having it be so open (mostly), at night with that moon and starry sky. Lovely. And like someone else mentioned, it is one of the few places I really enjoy using a mount. (though in all fairness, I am not a huge fan of riding a mount anyway, so there is that.)

I would definitely add to the screenshots, but alas, I am on my work laptop. Will try to add later.

It is funny how much mood and atmosphere, can really make a place. Western Approach is also a desert location, but I make a face every time I go there. :pinched:

There are a couple of really silly things I like about the Hissing Wastes. The materials. Armor made with Hardened Gurn Hide and Nevarrite is pretty darn swank. Purple! My first set of Masterwork Dual Blades were made with Nevarrite, and I named them "Pain" and "Suffering". :D

I also like all the little camps. it probably sounds weird, but it's kinda cool to see lights in the darkness, to make it seem a little less...lonely. Though typically, there are some creepy red templars hanging out.

@Coldy - I do that same thing. As soon as I'm able to unlock HW, I go there. And die. Umm, sometimes. ;) I also have that same reaction to the Western Approach. I really had a different visual in mind, after reading Asunder. It's nothing like I'd imagined. And just...blah. I way prefer the Oasis and Wastes to the Approach.

I'm curious, and it's probably been talked about to death already (but I've been gone a few months), but who is that pilgrim I keep bumping into? I never have the patience to try to figure it out.

What pilgrim? The hunters you mean, or the slave you rescue? Maybe I missed it myself.

There is a pilgrim, or chantry sister, that shows up from time to time with a ? above her head, and she's always praying. She says some kind of line about the maker each time you talk to her, and...gah, I don't remember what else.

I feel like there's probably some reason for it, especially since she seems to teleport, and party members notice and comment on it ("how did she get here so quickly?" "I don't think she means us any harm.", etc.) I just haven't seen it through, to see if anything happens.
