There is a pilgrim that shows up from time to time with a ? above her head, and she's always praying. She says some kind of line about the maker each time you talk to her, and...gah, I don't remember what else.

I feel like there's probably some reason for it, especially since she seems to teleport, and party members notice and comment on it ("how did she get here so quickly?" "I don't think she means us any harm.", etc.) I just haven't seen it through, to see if anything happens.

Is this in the Hissing Wastes? Or the Oasis? She holds a key if it's the Oasis.

No, it's the Hissing Wastes. I just found it on the wiki: it's how you get the bow, Perseverance.

Apparently, there's more than one of them, and you have to talk to three to get it.

I also like what Sera has to say about the wastes. 'Wow, that's so much nowhere!' in that awestruck voice. And Solas 'well, it doesn't want for sand.'

Oh, and I love to put on my cowboy hat, mount my trusty steed and ride aimlessly through the dunes.

Another thing about Cole is that when he's in his stealth mode, he will teleport to in front of you as you run around the map. It was esp scary at night, because he's so glow-y, before I knew it was him doing it.  :o

edit to add: Cole will comment on the stars when you are in the Hissing Wastes.

Lol he did that to me when I was lighting the torches in the tomb. I thought I did it wrong and it was a monster so I attacked him!

I actually did that a couple of days ago, to Varric. Oopsie. We were in the Hinterlands, near the Avvar blades area, with all the super sneaky rogues. He seemed like a threat.

Ooh, you know what else I like in the HW? Lurkers. Much love for Lurker skins, for crafting.

I love the Hissing Wastes, love the vasteness, the moonlight, the enemies and the sense of forbodding; the dwarven tombs side quest that ends with a dragon fight is one of the coolest and most informative side quest in the game (love taking Varric on that one); as big and vast as it is, it's also quite easy to navigate, and there are plenty of tier 3 high quality materials and plants to harvest (wyverns and lurkers drop some particulary good ones).

Did you fight the legendary beast? I got some nice loot from that too, and my mage got a lovely new outfit from the Inquisition soldiers hanging around the desert where it gets so windy you are told to turn back.

I took Iron Bull and he had a lot to say about dwarves. I should try both him and Varric next time!

I loooove Hissing Wastes. It may be my favorite map. I personally find it to just be beautiful, in a dark, ethereal, silent kind of way. It's so eerily empty. Very atmospheric. Is it also our only map that takes place at night?

It's also one of the harder (possibly hardest) map, and that sense of trepidation only adds to the atmosphere. What kind of baddie will you encounter in the dark??

One of the things I like the most in the Hissing Wastes is the oasis zone where wyverns spawn like mad. Great place for tier 3 leather farming.

Oh, yeah! I do that every time. I kill all the secondary wyverns first, then the legendary one last. I end up with a huge bounty of skins and poison glands for runes. Huzzah!

I'm not sure I've seen those Inquisition soldiers. I'll have to look for them!

YES. Taking Iron Bull to the Wastes was what inspired me to romance him in my latest (new) playthrough. He's so much more intelligent and observant than I ever realized. I haven't taken him + Varric yet, though. With my new character being a Dwarf, hopefully she's not totally derped to Dwarven history.

I somehow managed to kill it before the others. They just sat around as it fought me to the death. Lol

Yeah it's way out at the far end near the tomb where you light the torches on the outside. If you keep walking the wind gets up and you start to slow until your Inquisitor tells you to turn back. They are all the way out there. Weird thing though, in my new game the soldiers have been spawning everywhere within a few feet of each other with empty chests!

There are a couple of really silly things I like about the Hissing Wastes. The materials. Armor made with Hardened Gurn Hide and Nevarrite is pretty darn swank. Purple! My first set of Masterwork Dual Blades were made with Nevarrite, and I named them "Pain" and "Suffering". :D

I also like all the little camps. it probably sounds weird, but it's kinda cool to see lights in the darkness, to make it seem a little less...lonely. Though typically, there are some creepy red templars hanging out.

@Coldy - I do that same thing. As soon as I'm able to unlock HW, I go there. And die. Umm, sometimes. ;) I also have that same reaction to the Western Approach. I really had a different visual in mind, after reading Asunder. It's nothing like I'd imagined. And just...blah. I way prefer the Oasis and Wastes to the Approach.

I'm curious, and it's probably been talked about to death already (but I've been gone a few months), but who is that pilgrim I keep bumping into? I never have the patience to try to figure it out.

LOL. Love the Dual Dagger names. And yes, YES! to everything purply-blueish. :D

The "Pilgrim" appears as a Chantry Sister, and she will potentially speak to you on three different occasions (at different spots around the Waste). If she does, the following will happen:

Spoiler

Cole, Sera, Solas and IB, will make a few comments regarding her. I have never personally heard anything from the others, but then that doesn't necessarily mean that there isn't dialogue that "can" trigger from them.

I hated killing that sleeping dragon. I know I didn't have to, but... I had to.

This was one of my first dragon fights, in my first playthrough. Thank goodness Blackwall was there, because...as you can see, it didn't go well. :P

I'm sorry, Coldy! I decided I had to know, right then, and...well...dang it, google, for being so convenient. :)

Cassandra commented on the Chantry sister, a couple of times. She seemed really perplexed by it.

That's right! I forgot that Cassandra also comments. I love Cass to bits and pieces, but I guess it has been a while since I have taken her to the Wastes. S'all good though, my new(ish) M!Lavellan, will take her for a nice romantic stroll there, BEFORE BEING CRUSHED BY STAMPEDING GURNS, MINCED BY RED TEMPLAR SHADOWS, AND POISONED BY EVERY SPIDER BW HAS EVER MADE....EVAR!!

Good times.

I think the Hissing Wastes is pretty.  Giant moon, sky full of stars.  Amber glow of Venatori and Red Templar campfires in the distance.  Oh, and lots of good loot and metals for crafting.  And since it is so big you can go awhile without running into something or someone who is trying to kill you.

You know, I had a tough time finding Gurns in my second playthrough. I scoured the Wastes, looking for them, and they were nowhere. I kept leaving and coming back later, and DOH! I was so sad. I made it up to my character, by taking out more Lurkers. Didn't really have that problem in the third playthrough.

Gawd, those spiders. Any time I go to the merchant, I find myself running at breakneck speed, to kill the spiders off, so they don't hurt the pooch. Wut.

Oh, the Hissing Wastes will be a very romantic setting to showcase your M!Lavellan's Elven Glory to Cassandra.

Blackwall is always my savior in a dragon fight! He loves to "fight to the death" and it's always him and my Inquisitor left standing. Not counting the dragon in the Hinterlands. Iron Bull was very very happy when it ended and was practically having a party!

I like the Hissing Wastes. Walking around the dragon while it sleeps listening to the music play. A nice night for a walk. Hahaha

It was surprisingly one of my favorite areas. I think it was the fact that it was nigh time and seeing the glow of camp fires off in the distance, made it seem different from most of the other areas. It was also fun trying to find that weird person who would appear out of nowhere.

I really like the Hissing Wastes. I prefer deserts to forests.
