Id like to know how i can remove steam and still keep my Dragon Age game. Its not user friendly and steam has popups that appear while i play. Now i cant play offline.I have to connect online then disconnect myself after my game is loaded.I dont need steam running in the background collecting info on my computer while i play.Ive had issues with Steam since i downloaded from them.Ill never get another product through them either.

This is not a Steam exclusive game, so if you didn't want to use Steam you should have bought a retail copy of the game.

However, even with a retail copy you still need to be connected to the internet and logged in to your EA account in order to access any DLC content or load any saves that were started when DLC content was enabled.

- "Its not user friendly and steam has popups that appear while i play"

Steam does not have popups other than those at launch, which is news.

And i think you could stop those in settings somewhere.

It's as user friendly as it could be, imo, i dont see any problems with it.

I dont see why people hate on steam all the time, it's pretty damn good, to be honest.

I keep ALL my games (76) on steam, and they all work perfectly fine, no popups while playing, and steam only collects data from you if you allow it.

Anyways, to answer your question..

NO, you need to be connected to steam to start the game now.

You should of had bought it retailed in a store.

There are some illegal options thou, but i dunno how well it'd work with your legal account.

Or how well it'd work with patches & dlc as well.

Not to derail the the thread, but this is incorrect.  You can access your DLC just find when you are logged out, as long as you have logged in at least once to authorize it.

I see ill need to contact EA about this then.Steam has had popups every single time ive played while online. At least once per session.Ill get screenies for it and send it to Bioware/EA about it then.Ill be ordering directly from the source next time as a friend of mine ordered directly from EA and hasnt had a single problem with her version.Sorry Steam , but i can see for myself when someone orders the game directly from EA without the Steam engine. No popups.

P.S.The popups are advertising for other games on Steam btw and it screwsup the game, graphics, and i HAVE to reboot my computer.Thats the problem i have with it.

Hmm, i only have a popup from steam when I start Steam, one ad for something and i close it and it is gone until i restart steam. What are you pop-ups about? Is it that community thing you can enable or disable or is that another thing? I have turned most of my options off, so maybe that is why mine plays just as though it was retail ( my husband got the retail, and i don't see the difference myself.)

Then it's not steams fault.
It's more likely a drivers issue with your graphics card.

Still, it would be smarter to wait for the "news" to popup before you start the game, if that is the case.
It will only popup once to let you know about new deals and games.

If you get any other popups, other than this one, then you most likely have viruses instead, that are connected to steam, perhaps.

In anycase, if your computer crashes from this popup while playing, then i strongly recommend reinstalling your computer, clean.

Fresh Format with a fresh OS and another ver of drivers.

FYI - You can take your Steam CD key and enter it into the EA Download Manager (which you can download from EA) to gain access to the EA Digital Download version of Dragon Age. It's still an online, digital version, but it will let you get rid of Steam and use the EA version instead if you really want to get rid of Steam completely.

Steam is convenient and safe. Any game you buy will be available preety much until valve shuts down its servers or something, in other words a long time. The popups can be disabled BTW.

I've been using Steam for a few years now and have never had any popups while in game. When you start DOA (Steam Version), A small window apppears at the right hand side of the screen to inform you about CD Keys. It tells you to press Shift+Tab to close this. When you press Shift+Tab, it will bring up a Window showing the CD Key(s), a Window showing your Friend list and some buttons along the bottom of the screen. Press Shift+Tab again and they will all disappear.

If they are the 'Popups' you were refering to then you now know how to get rid of them. If you are getting any other Popups, then it is not a problem caused by Steam and it seems likely that your system has been compromised by malicious software.

Thank you LadySeryn that is what i will do then.Ive been having blue screens of death for 5 days straight now at least once every time i play DAO.My friend hasnt had one at all.I never get BSD ,until i downloaded Steam. So logic dictates thats where my problem lies. These popups are DIRECTLY related to Steam since its their advertising for a game.I never trusted Gamespy and now i wont use Steam.Once bitten twice shy and all.:-)

You are right Kepha.I can login then disconnect myself form the net and play. But i cannot do that with steam. If i shut steam down then its shuts my game down.Terrible system if you ask me.Just like Gamespy used to be when i tried it once.I could never understand why i would download an additional program to play a game?Theres a price you pay for a cheaper product. No more from this player.
