So I purchased this game yesterday and have not been able to play for longer than 20-30 minutes without crashing Im running windows 64 bit ultimate. I've tried bringing the graphics settings down, even though the game runs smoothly on higher settings until of course, it crashes. Next I downloaded all of the most recent drivers for all of my hardware, actually, since I did this, the game crashes even more! The crashes happen most often in the middle of battle, and much less so outide of battle. What usually happens is the game just stops, and goes straight to a windows screen that says "Dragon Age has stopped working", when I click on details, I get this:
Problem signature:
  Problem Event Name:    APPCRASH
  Application Name:    DAOrigins.exe
  Application Version:    1.0.9353.0
  Application Timestamp:    4ab251ee
  Fault Module Name:    DAOrigins.exe
  Fault Module Version:    1.0.9353.0
  Fault Module Timestamp:    4ab251ee
  Exception Code:    c0000005
  Exception Offset:    0007faff
  OS Version:    6.0.6000.2.0.0.256.1
  Locale ID:    1033
  Additional Information 1:    8d13
  Additional Information 2:    cdca9b1d21d12b77d84f02df48e34311
  Additional Information 3:    8d13
  Additional Information 4:    cdca9b1d21d12b77d84f02df48e34311

WTF?? Additionally, I often have texture issues within the game, such as armor with different textures, blood just showing up as huge red quads, particle effects showing just colored quads, and other really weird texture stuff. What the heck is going on here? Is there anything I can do?

I forgot to mention that there is no DLC content available whatsoever even though I pre-ordered the game. To be honest I dont really care about that , I just want to run it without crashing every 20 minutes....

You may have a overheating problem. Either graphics card or CPU or both. Can you locate the crash log and post the most recent time-stamped entry?

Windows XP default location: C:\\\\Documents and Settings\\\\yourusername\\\\My Documents\\\\BioWare\\\\Dragon Age\\\\

It's located in a subdirectory.

P.S.  It should be a single back-slash between directories, but the forum keeps adding another.

I've been having issues with crashes too. more than 4 in less than 2 hours. The screen starts to get these red-looking scratches and then my whole comp freezes and lovely blue screens ensue. Vista said something about the graphics card failing, but i dunno.

Specs:

8 gigs RAM (pc800)

AMD Athlon x64 Dual Core 3.00 gHz

two 8800gt video cards in sli configuration

Vista home premium 64

All my drivers are up-to-date as far as I know...

Excat same problem here.

X4 955
4GB DDR3 1333
HD4770
All stable system, temps and voltages are ok. Don't think this is an issue with any defect hardware. believe this is some software issue. All my other games run smooth, no crashes. Only in Dragon Age :(

For a while turning off AA stopped most crashes and at least let me get through the Ostigar battles. However it crashed again for me in the next area... and who knows when I last saved... ARG

I updated to the newest nvidia drivers and no change. Still get random crashes.

There are apparent issues with Quad Cores, ATI drivers and SLI, all leading to crashes.

So check your CPU usage while playing and see if it's 100%.

Also i think 64bit OS's are causing crashes.

No SLI for me, but quad core Phenom II 940 and ATI 4890 - Win 7-64. It does indeed seem to be a CPU usage issue - almost seems the driver is offloading work to the cpu that the videocard should be doing.

THe game is not crashing for me per se. I get to the load screen and it never loads i open the task manager and it says DA:O is not responding. here what i run

phenom 4X 2.3ghz

win 7 x64

2x ati 3870s in Crossfire

I am not having temp issues.

I do notice that the longer i play the crappier my frame rate get (it gets really choppy at times) i dont think that this should happen considering the requirements vs my rig. I think it could be a memory leak issue. becuase it eats more and more memory the longer i play.

I've never once had a game crash to date:

Alienware Area 51 ALX
Win 7 64bit Ultimate
i7 975 @ 4.1Ghz (shows as 8 cores)
12 GB DDR3 @ 1600Mhz
2 Nvidia 295s (Quad SLI)
SB Xi-Fi Titanium
1.5TB Raid

The game has *never* crashed once for me, even after playing for 12+ hrs non stop. I have had some DLC issues, but that's only on my current play through and they are minimal (Shale won't give me her quest)

I don't think a 64bit OS has anything to do with it.

I would check your drivers and/or hardware for problems

That's my log. Gmae shows it will use up to 7 cores. My laptop is a 4 core system and it will spawn 3 threads. It seems for any cpu over 2 cores, it will spawn one less worker thread than there are core (as to not 100% tie up the CPU)

But... this can EASILY overheat systems that are not properly cooled or clogged with dust and hair. It will 100% use 2 core systems, and 75% use a quad. So if you aren't properly cooled, ANY overlocking will crash your system, and if your cooling paths aren't up to par, then it can cause crashes too, especially if your fans are not programmed to speed up as the CPU and/or case temp rises
