They don't selectively breed anymore. The writers retconned that to having one of the roles of the Tamassrans be being sluts to be used whenever a Qunari wants to have sex.
The Tamassrans aren't merely sluts.

I'm not shaming. I'm just stating what Bioware did. That is a role of the Tamassrans now. Have sex with anyone with an urge to relieve them of said urge.
And they can't even change from that role.
It's totally a Snoop Dogg philophy. "Let a ho, be a ho." As if some people are destined for being prostitutes. *shakes head*
A. Because as The Iron Bull describes it you can literally walk in and do the deed. There is no checking to see which traits may become of any potential offspring.

A. I'm very sure the qunari have figured out birth control.
B. There's no need to use an inherently insulting word for it, hmm?
Bioware is getting soft(er)
This is true and it hurts me heart and soul.
And there goes another Krem thread
What is this, a catholic school? Get over it, Jesus.
No, they would be the ones expressing the sentiment that I'm opposing.

Snoop Dogg and not sleeping on your side. Everything wrong about the Qunari.

Let's not compare a cultural tradition in a society to a guy who once walked around with women in scanty clothes and collars assigned to them.
@Rekkampum: How would a transgender character not mentioning that they're transgender erase their identity, exactly? That line of thought makes no sense to me. If I, as a straight person, didn't mention in conversation to you that I was straight, would that erase my sexuality? No, of course not. I'd still be straight, you just wouldn't necessarily know about it because I didn't bring it up in front of you - just because you don't know about it doesn't mean that it doesn't exist.

If you say so, just another reason why I hate Bioware's fanbase to me

I'm not sure people taking roles they have no choice in taking counts as a tradition.

We talked about tolerating "cultures" in that other thread earlier. I don't care about it.
I only care about my own ethics. I'm a bigot that way (in that sense, I'm similar to Qunari myself heh).
It's similar because the Pimp philosophy is that some people are destined to be used for sex like this. I disagree. I think we're all able to change our lives.

This is dependent on the individual. A transsexual individual who doesn't pass well will very probably want to mention it if they're sufficiently self-actualized to do so, so that others will perceive them as the correct gender. And in the context of a video game, it has to be mentioned because otherwise it won't exist for the players who never heard about it.

Stop being so dramatic. lol
Seriously. Not even that bad.
The Tamassrans aren't merely sluts.
Hence me saying "one of their roles", not "their role".
And they can't even change from that role.
Yep. They are stuck in that role. I find it weird how Bioware thought doing that to a female-only role was a good idea when they are for breaking bad stereotypes, not reinforcing them.

A. Perhaps.
B. Please provide me a better term to use. I haven't found one that matches the situation as accurately, hence using it.

These are the only people in the setting who have an all-male military.

State prostitutes.

If we're gonna defend "state prostitution" out of some "respect for culture", we're even worse than Samus.
edit: Actually, Samus wasn't even bad. This is more like Samus taken to the extreme.
State prostitutes.
How is that better, lol. Either way it's not good. I would love for a real prostitute to say "Don't call me a ****, the professional term is prostitute."
I will laugh.

I don't think you understand what I'm saying. This is about representation. You have the privilege of not having to be acknowledged because heterosexuals are the norm, and it would be pretty insulting if Bioware made this game with Krem in it and then suddenly decided to say to its audience "Yo, by the way, Krem's trans" after the fact. You haven't had to deal with having your identity invalidated just because people are hard-wired to believe that your genitals are all that define your gender or that you can only act a certain way if you are.
Honestly, if passing as a man was Krem's intention, then the entire conversation about his gender between he and Iron Bull didn't even need to take place... I mean, the only reason to bring this up in front of someone who is not only their employer but also an almost total stranger is to bring the overall issue to light for us as players... there's certainly no in-game, in-universe logic behind it from what I can see. And it can't be about testing the waters since the Inquisitor has no way of objecting to or challenging the revelation. So yeah... for the most part, Krem was a poorly disguised message to the audience, not necessarily a strong or noteworthy character within the story itself. I don't dislike him as a character, mind you, but I don't see any reason to make him out to be more than what he really was.

The important part is not disrespecting tamrassans who have sex as part of their role just because they have that role.
