Now lets imagine the uproar if Maevaris is a romance in DA4 and the only way to know she is a trans woman is if you romance her. It would be glorious to see BSN explodes and "shoving the gay agenda into out throats" arguments would make me laugh.
The Crying Game was a pretty good film at least.

I think that not all tamassrans perform that service, and I don't think that one is prevented from ever being able to change a position within a role. Otherwise, there'd be no promotions or demotions.
So? Just because all may not doesn't change the fact some have to. The only time there are promotions is when a higher role needs to be filled and the only time there are demotions is when someone failed, like the Arishok in DA2 is and Sten takes his place as the new Arishok. So the only time a "state prostitute" would be able to become something different is when a slot in a higher role is available.

@Rekkampum: Well, to be honest, I was fairly clueless about it myself when the conversation came up. Initially, I had thought that Krem was a man, then I started to think that Krem was a really butch woman judging by the appearance and voice, so when the option to ask whether Krem was a woman or not really confused me the heck out of me, and I just felt that I had to ask in order to clear my confusion because I genuinely didn't have a clue.
Krem looks pretty androgynous, so it's definitely possible to get confused on first glance. He probably would fit right in as a nadleh.

I think what worries me more is whether any of these factions evolve. Are they always going to be this way? I'd rather try liberating some Qunari (even if I fail) than just letting them be.
It's exactly what they're trying to do themselves.

Krem was thoroughly boring and quite pointless, not because he was transgender but because they under utilized the chargers, the whole merc team seemed interesting (except Krem..boring as) but the whole team seemed like Bioware could have opened them up far more and made them a group character in their own right..
Even could have used them in multiplayer for people that like that aspect, but nope..
unused unneeded in my opinion.

I would have liked to have seen them used for more than a couple war table operations myself.

AFAIK, I have no clue. I think they'll have to confront that as they get more into the lore concerning Qunari mating practices.
