This Post Contains *SPOILERS*
Ok, so I'm one of the biggest Dragon Age saga fans out there, I've played numerous playthroughs with Origins, DA:2, and now DA:I. I've been playing DA:I since December basically nonstop. I've come across so many things that I have an opinion about, so I wrote this review, and thought this would be a good place to post it. I do want mention that some of these things may be petty and small to some of you, but the game would be better if the changes were made. (Note that I am on Playstation).
Patch 5:
Thank you BioWare for finally adding storage! Although kind of a bad spot, I always like to jump off of that ledge and now I just access the storage any time I press X haha. I know a lot of players were really upset about not having one at Skyhold, and now we do, so thanks
. Also, thanks so much for adding the armor tint!! That's something that really bugged me about crafting is all the "good" crafting materials that I had weren't the color I wanted, and vice versa. So this is a huge bonus that I absolutely love! And bravo on making the subtitles larger! Only thing that bugs me is it's not the same font as default
I also know that you guys are working hard to give us the Black Emporium, so I'm not going to bag on you guys for this, but it is unfortunate that a player must restart the entire game from Create a Character if he/she decides that look/voice isn't working for the Inquisitor.
- Character Creation
- Please give more hairstyles! I do a lot of playthroughs and I get really tired of the same hairstyles over and over. It'd also be nice if the hair actually moved like real hair (the longer hairstyles don't move like real hair, they're very stiff and not realistic). Also, different colored hairstyles would be nice too, like purple or blue ![]()
- The female voices!! I'm sorry to whoever voiced that American accent Inquisitor voice, but it is just not pretty! I know it's hard to get more than one person to voice the entire game, and obviously all the fans would love more voice options, but if you're going to give us another option, please make sure people like it first! All of my playthroughs have been the same female voice because I couldn't stand the American one. Deep female voices are fine, but this one sounded almost manly and very non-enthusiastic when it came to acting. My problem with the British accent is that it sounds almost identical to fem Hawke's. When I first heard it, I could've sworn it was the same actress.
- With Qunari, why are the horns different from DA:2? I liked the dual horns on each side. I'd like those horn options to be available.
+ Kudos on all the advancements you guys have made in Character Creation. So much customization with everything, I absolutely love it and I'm sure other players do as well.
- The War Table
- Why are the little mission sticks so hard to find? The ones in the dark areas (mostly in the corners), like "A Friend in Qarinus" in Orlais, or the Clan Levallan ones in Fereldan. Not a huge deal, but would be nice if they were easier to find after clicking on them and the little blinky indicator goes away.
- You guys absolutely have to make a way for us to see what's going on with the War Table while we're away. If I miss the "Leliana is ready to report" message, I have no idea if she's done unless I go back to Skyhold to the War Table. I'd also like to see how long they have until they're done, or what mission they went on if I've forgotten.
+ I like all the different messages that the advisors have before and after given the missions. A lot of them are really funny!
+ Perks are awesome! I think it's a great way for us to get what we want by completing missions, etc.
- Haven
- It would be nice to have Fast Travel points in Haven because most of the time, I think people want to go straight to the Chantry, and it's annoying to spawn outside of the gates each time you go to Haven.
+ Thank you for making it so we can have Sera pick those locks down in the dungeon if our Herald isn't a rogue.
- Skyhold Customizations
- When it comes to unlocking Skyhold's banners, beds, thrones, etc., it would be nice if we were able to view what we've unlocked when we're away from the Undercroft, especially with the banners, because there's no way for me to tell what banners i've unlocked unless I either notate as the game progresses, or if I go through each banner, running from the Undercroft to outside to check if the banner exists. And the decor, what is the decor!? I haven't unlocked any decor in any of my playthroughs. No clue what it is.
- The Undercroft
- When you enter the Undercroft, the banter between Dagna and Harritt gets really old, really fast.
+ I want to give major kudos to BioWare for changing each and every armor set to each companion's own style. That is super awesome.
+ Crafting and schematics are probably my favorite thing in this game. I have so much fun trying to find the best schematics and then trying to find the best crafting materials to go with them! And as I said above, the armor tint just adds to my excitement over it!
+ And thank you for making it easier for all of us by categorizing light armor with mages, medium armor with rogues, and heavy armor with warriors.
- Thedas
+ LOVE party banter. More please!! ![]()
+ Yay for mounts!!
+ Yay for sandbox exploration and all the different climates and areas!!
- I'd say the only thing that bothers me about how vast everything is, is the many many missions! Now, I'm sure BioWare doesn't expect all areas to be explored and all missions to be completed, but after you get to Skyhold, it seems like there are so many area options and therefore so many missions, it can be a little overwhelming. I'm not suggesting to give less missions, just maybe not so all at once, if that makes sense.
- While this isn't really a big deal, I miss the coinage from the old games, with copper, silver, and gold sovereigns. Now it's just gold
I suppose it makes it easier when counting and figuring out what you can afford, but the sudden disappearance of them bothers me.
- I miss Orzammar ![]()
- Battles
+ Tactical Camera is awesome! Makes things a whole lot easier when you're trying to micromanage your team, or reach something/aim at something you can't see.
+ At first I was really weary of the whole not healing after every battle. But now I think it's better. We're not worried about trying to find potions since they automatically regenerate at every campsite. And we can revive our teammates now!
- I really wish the archers and mages could hit enemies in melee if they come to close, like they did in DA:2! If an enemy got too close to an archer, you could hit them with your bow. If an enemy got to close to a mage, you could hit them with your staff (I mean, that is why there are "blades" on the ends of our staves, right?).
- Bring back tactics please!! I'm glad there is some "behavior," as what it is called now, with preferred, enabled, and disabled moves. But even though micromanaging is sometimes necessary, I'd really prefer not to do it. When you can set moves to be used against a "cluster" of enemies, or if a certain party member is below health. All these tactics made my life a lot easier.
- Saving & Controls
- It would be nice if we were able to name our saves, like "Right before Fereldan Frostback," and such, so we don't have to guess which save it was when something was happening.
+ MAJOR major kudos to the team that set up the controls (with the console remotes). They are so seamless now, holding R2 is genius for attacking, plus the search with L3, and THANK GOODNESS WE CAN JUMP NOW! ![]()
- Companions
+ I'm so happy that their are so many more romance options for us.
- The one thing that bugs me though, is why is Cullen only for elves and humans? Why doesn't he like my fem dwarf or fem Qunari?
- Why, oh why, is there so much cussing now? I miss the word "sodding"! I can recall two total times in the entire game when someone uses the word "sod" (both dwarves). Now I know that mostly dwarves use the word anyway, but I know humans and elves have used this word in both Origins and DA:2. I cringe every time I hear Dorian tell his dad about his "****** legacy." It just doesn't sound like it would come out of his mouth! Sodding is way funnier any way (although probably not proper in that scene since it's so depressing
) I don't know why it bothers me, but it does.
