This will be a long post, this is your only warning.
Then I'd guess that Visceral is probably next in line. I sure didn't buy Dead Space 3, despite having 1 and 2, because they added co-op and I knew I'd miss content since I had no one else to play it with and because of my uncertainty with how the microtransactions were going to work. Glad I skipped it, because EA told them to tone it down, because 1 and 2 were "too scary".
I don't know though, Visceral, Austin, and DICE are all making star wars games and could feed off of that Episode 7 hype (Biowareis rumored, but not confirmed). Austin is just sitting on a 3 going on 4 year old one, but they've got them microtransactions that scared me off working for them, so...
The entire Dead Space series was NOT scary. I counted every single "scare" in the damn series before it even happened.
It's been three and a half months since release and the only DLC news there has been is a vague "we're working on something" comment. Whereas Origins and Dragon Age II had story DLC released or officially announced already by this point.
Then there's the news of Gaider being shifted to another project. Now that could have a million different meanings (as could their cancelled project) but for a studio with supposedly wind at their back and more Doritos-approved accolades you can shake a Mtn Dew bottle at, they have been uncharacteristically silent with their marketing and advertising.
I don't recall the wait period between the story DLCs from Origins/2. I do remember the hate that Return to Ostagar got when it was delayed (twice). It also doesn't help that most of the story DLCs for both of those games only counted a couple of hours. Awakening is the only expansion DLC worth noting, but that's only because it was an actual expansion.
As for the marketing, it's always been crap.
in the year 2175 we all will die in the potato uprising.
What is it with the UK and all of their potato issues?
I am definitely concerned for Bioware. One significant failure, and poof -- Bioware will be nothing but a memory. EA is literally Satan of the games industry and Bioware is in bed with them. It WILL happen to Bioware eventually.
Melodrama just reeks from this post...
BioWare has had TWO significant failures, DA2 and the ending of ME3. I'm pretty sure we've crossed the failures threshold.
It's mildly amusing to me that people remember things so very differently when it helps them make their opinion look better. I personally seem to recall the BSN aglow with moral outrage that content was so clearly cut from the games (Dragon Age Origins and II) to use as unashamed cash-grab DLC and that Bioware would fail miserably for certain.
As for me, as long as they keep making games I enjoy playing, I'll keep buying them. *shrug*
That's my remembrance of the time as well.
I remember the rage too, I'm thinking from a business perspective moreso than a consumer one. I don't purchase BioWare games anymore, and I don't begrudge those who do.
A company owned by EA will attempt to profit whenever it can, the lack of a clear vision for future Inquisition products is a little unsettling considering both Origins and Dragon Age 2 had DLC roadmaps already laid out at this point. Maybe Inquisition already has, and they're just keeping it from us, which I accepted was a possibility.
It's not a matter of "BIOWER SUXXX" or "I LUB BIOWARE" or anything like that, it's just unusual to see a company be completely silent considering how many accolades Inquisition has gotten from the mainstream gaming press. Why aren't they leveraging the momentum they supposedly have?
Any capitalistic company will attempt to profit however they can. Electronic Arts and BioWare are no different than Standard Oil or Pfizer Pharmaceuticals.
Maxis isn't dead, one studio being shut down among several other Maxis studios doesn't = dead
Indeed, but how many people are actually going to realize that?
The headlines read "EA shuts down Maxis Emeryville, the original studio" while clearly omitting the fact that there are other Maxis studios still in existence. EA could have shut down the site simply because they felt it was cheaper than paying rent for it.
The new Bioware sucks, the sooner they die the better.
More melodrama?
What is this "new BioWare" anyways? The games are still the same except that they've been updated for the current gaming market. Shiny graphics and full voiced dialogue are the norm these days, and they're also the most expensive part of making a game. Be outraged about the system as a whole instead of a singular entity.

I want Bioware to make it to the 2020s, with a few more games.
Don't care how good they are. I just want to see them.

Word? BioWare might be good then. Along with this board's entertainment, assuming he's still as melodramatic as ever. He's an OG forum character.

As long is the games are selling BW is not dead, but soon the time will come to move on to better games from fresher and smaller studios, until they also will get swallowed by the big guys and start making buggy games that ride on the name alone. This is the cycle, AAA games in the last years were always sub-par, as the production cost sky rockets and it must cater to as many people as possible, and pushing it out before it is even ready.
The only game I kinda hyped right now is the new Unreal Tournament because of the method of developing: open to public development process that talented outside people participate.
