Hello! I just recently recieved my copy of the Mass Effect 2 Collector's Edition, preordered from Gamestop, for the PC. I had no installation issues, and was able to register my promotional codes for bonus content with no hassle. However, when I went to startup the game, the screen turned black, and I recieved a message from Windows saying, "Mass Effect 2 has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." I have not as of yet changed any settings, so I'm not sure what the issue could be. I'll provide as much information as I can.

I've been getting almost exactly the same message, perhaps there's something wrong with the disc, and if that does turn out to be the case, there isn't anything you can do about. However, Problems like this have been occuring all over with the PC version.

I think I'm having the same issue, except on Vista64. Once I hit play game from the launcher, screen goes black, then massEffect.exe crashes before anything happens.

For whatever reason the game sometimes installs with less then all the files it needs. If your folder is less then roughly 11.4GB then that is your issue (it was mine when I had the same error) I refer you to my post here: http://social.biowar...06/index/779875

I had an installation issue that I fixed with that solution then I had the crash on start-up I fixed by reinstalling and getting all the files the second time (the first time I did it wrong) if your folder is like 9gb (roughly) that's the problem.

I'm having the same exact problem. I get to see the Bioware and EA logos. Then it goes to black and refuses to run.
