ME1 before going to Ilos scene is more depressing.

Yeah, Shepard was basically just standing around till Joker called over the comms.

Didn't want to romance anyone in ME1 because I disliked Kaiden and Liara was too... I dunno.. Clingy? And I wanted a guy.

On topic. It's worth it but personally, I like more content so I always have an LI. Though it may be awkward, esp in ME2 (I nearly threw up when Shepard told Thane to "be alive with me, tonight"), it still adds spice.

I wonder how people would feel about romances if it required two or more games to actually develop into a full on romance. I'm guessing people would hate it, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't intrigued by the concept.

Actually that sort of happens with the LIs in Mass Effect. Most of the characters take three games before they profess to be in love with Shepard. Of the characters that are in multiple games I think Jacob (ironically) is the lone exception.

As an example Liara will only say she's in love with Shepard in ME3 if it's an imported romance from ME1, and she doesn't say it in the romance scenes from previous games. If she is romanced in ME3 but wasn't in previous games, she'll only say that Shepard is special to her or something along those lines. Ashley also doesn't drop the L-bomb until ME3, and I believe the same is also true of Tali, Kaidan and Garrus.

I think the devs mostly got it right in having the relationships between characters progress naturally, at least for those who were introduced in ME1. Perhaps later additions like Traynor seem a bit rushed though, and after ME3 Jacob's declaration of love is now unintentionally hilarious. Jacob apparently will say anything to get into Fem Shep's armor. Heavy risk...but the priiiize.

Kaidan does say "I loved you" in ME2 if you romanced him in the first game. Miranda will also say "What idiotic bunch of hormones thought that now a great time for love?" in ME2 though I'm not sure if that counts.

The Jacob romance will forever be a joke to me.  :D
