Hello all! I have an idea for a small, fun mod project, which will strike home with all the old school Black Isle/Bioware fans, as you might tell by the title...

Okay, so I basically would like to portray Candlekeep and the first half hour or so of Baldur's Gate through the Dragon Age engine; I would rerecord all voice acting, even recording more, copy and transfer all dialogue trees, record all events and outcomes, and spread the word of the mod around.

But unfortunately I can't code or do anything like that, so I'd need volunteers.:wizard:

Even though BioWare made BG, they do not (as far as I know) have the right to make any use of the Forgotten Realms setting. It is possible that this extends to them not being allowed to host modules set in the Forgotten Realms or otherwise making use of a 3rd party's intellectual property.



My advice, before you start, is to verify whether you will be allowed to distribute something llike this on the BioWare site.



Having said that, your post sounds like you are looking for volunteers to do almost the entire project for you, and that approach is .... well, unlikely to work. My advice is to practice with the toolset, do as much as you can, and only seen help on some bits and pieces where you get really stuck.

I hear where your concern is coming from but personally, I think you there isn't much anyone could do to stop someone from using the tool to 'remake' a classic.  I could be wrong though...Posted Image

There's actually precedent for cease and desists relating to mod material.



There were quite a few Star Wars mods from NWN that got cease and desist letters from Lucasarts, for example. Now granted, they were using artwork from the games/movies.



If a person were to "create" the game sans artwork, and just use the language/quests/etc you could probably get away with it.

You would have to create it, since BG was 2D. Speaking of which, I wonder if the NWN2 mod community ever finished that BG2 campaign...

Good idea, especially for people who want to practice a bit before getting involved in bigger projects. It is much easier when you have the whole storyline done along with all the conversations etc. The scripting shouldn't be too hard, I guess... and just think how Gorion's fight with Sarevok would look like with the use of the cut-scene editor :)

good idea, i wanted to do a mod that included minsc and boo but their copyrighted so...

anyways you should be able to make a BG mod the only question is: is whether or not it you can be upfront about e.i you might have to change candlekeep to candlehold
