I'm just wondering if the deluxe edition and its contents are only available for a limited time, or will the upgrade be available later, also will there be a game of the year version including all dlc? Not sure whether to buy now or wait and see...

The deluxe edition is not worth it. Don't worry about it.

Last time I checked the Deluxe Edition was still a free upgrade on PSN ..... but in truth DAI is no longer worth buying as BW Devs keep screwing the game up more than really fixing anything or delivering anything worthy of being called worthy of playing.

I enjoyed the game (pre ordered it, so I got most of their extras).

That being said, I don't think Origin ever takes down the deluxe edition extras (I recently bought Mass Effect 3 for the PC and got all the extra stuff I missed out on when I got the regular version for the xbox 360 some years prior), so if you're not sure, it probably will still be around later if you decide you want to upgrade.

Basically, I wouldn't worry too much about it right now :) since it'll probably be around in the future if you decide you do really want that one extra thing.

What about hairstyles?  Do any of these changes provide for something other than a skinhead modernesque Thedan dystopia look?

Nope. They're still as horrible as in the normal version of the game.

Deluxe edition is not worth the extra 10 USD / 10 EUR, it is hands down the weakest digital deluxe upgrade I have ever seen. I wouldn't count on some ultimate edition with all DLCs, from BW games there was one only for DAO and then for ME2 on PS3. EA does not often make those editions as far as I know.

And then there is the question if the game itself is worth buying. Which depends both on the price you can get it for and on your expectations and preferences. If for example you are not at all expecting a great game like DAO, are a fan of single player MMORPGs, fan of action button-mashing games, can get the game for 40 USDs or less, then go for it. Otherwise I would wait, maybe forever and move on :D Also the game has one of the worst post-launch service I have ever seen.

I recently started listening to the Dragon age podcast and have slowly got to the point where they discuss Dragon age 2. The opinion was divided and as far as I know that is how the community are on Dragon age 2 overall.

I wonder if In your opinion Dragon age inquest is as bad as Dragon age 2?

As for me currently I'm playing through origins again (although I never finished it in previous playthroughs) and once I finish it I really hope I enjoy Dragon age 2.

It's interesting to see peoples opinion of the new game here, a lot of people say that since Bioware was bought by ea the quality of the games has dropped drastically (from what I've heard origins was already in development a long time before ea purchased Bioware, so they didn't interfere with the entire process as with the sequels?)

Have you considered reading glasses?

J/K

But seriously, those of you with bad things to say about inquest, what are your thoughts on Dragon age origins and Dragon age 2?

For me DA2 is actually better Dragon Age game than DAI. All of its problems unfortunatelly stem from the ridiculously short development time (one year for AAA game is not enough). But I really did enjoy the game. The combat was superb even to DAO, on nightmare it actually required better planning ahead as well as reacting to the situation. I loved the smaller story, in which the goal was not to save the world from the get-go, but to take care of ourselves and our family and just by accident we came by the events that would shape the world. That combined with Varric's narrative was really refreshing when it comes to AAA RPGs. If I would rate it today, it would be a solid 7/10 (5 being the average), for the reference DAI would be 6/10 (slightly above the average, but for me personally the most disappointing game ever).

Yeah, EA bought BW in 2007, DAO came out in 2009, but had been in some form of development since probably 2003. I used to be a huge BW apologist, I even defended the EA take-over because of the lack of information on the subject. Also ME2 was in development fully under EA and for me it is one of the best games I have ever played. But then things started to go slightly downhill. DA2 was released only one year after DAO:A, SWTOR happened (although being enjoyable for a while to an ex-WoW player like me, the game lacked originality, content and also support, patching and balancing was terribly slow), ME3 rushed in 2 years (the game was fine though, except the weird ending, but they at least released the EC for free and not many companies would do that, they released probably the best DLC I have ever played - Citadel and they supported the ME3MP really well, both with new content and with balance changes).

DAI was kinda an eye-opener for me. It made me cynical when it comes to the video game industry as a whole. I don't trust any developer or publisher anymore with pre-orders and any promo materials (not screenshots, not gameplay demos, nothing), the amount of PR BS and lies surrounding DAI is absolutely ridiculous. While I am now a better costumer and I hopefully won't ever get dissapointed with a game I buy, I really miss the times when I was able to get genuinely excited about a new game, especially when it was a part of my favourite franchise. I am not able to do that anymore and I dread what for example ME4 might turn out to be.

Good to see your opinion on the subject jeffry, I was thinking about getting DAI because it came up as 40% off on origin but I am thinking about waiting for the bargain bin version now (not that it would be a bargain per say) I am glad to here that despite its flaws you still think da2 is better than DAI, it gives me some hope for when I start playing it (I know I'm a few years behind with Dragon age but I'm a steam sale hoarder)

As for mass effect I have played the majority of the first game and it was alright, but I wonder if I will prefer the mass effect 2 stripped down feel. I have been playing mass effect 3 multiplayer just to see what its like and thought that was quite fun, so again I look forward to playing the entire trilogy through, as with Dragon age when I eventually pick up DAI.

Speaking about developers letting you down though, I personally felt that some of the changes in skyrim were lore breaking to the elder scrolls series, and when the game was released the bugs were ridiculous! I could walk through a dragons breath with no consequence at all, but I suppose this should be said on the elder scrolls forum and not here.

Another thing to mention is I've noticed some dialogue glitches in origins, I have been using some bugfix mods that are supposed to deal with the majority of issues but I've noticed morrigan and the mayor of redcliffe both using the wrong Voice over when a subtitle is displaying!? does this sort of thing happen in the vanilla game version 1.05? Or are mods messing that up?

I would wait until Dragon Age Inquisition goes  way down in price. It isn't worth the current price that it is now, and the extra stuffs you get from the Deluxe Edition isn't even worth it... especially the dragon armor and weapons as when you progress further in the game that the gear becomes obsolete.

You missed the DA:I sale. That was a few months ago.

The Deluxe Edition's only high points are the flame pack and the Soundtrack. Of course some people will just pirate away.

I for one loved the gameplay in ME2 even more than in ME. And then came ME3 and slightly improved upon ME2 in this aspect to make the gameplay feel even more fluid and enjoyable with added biotic/tech explosions etc. While I missed the customization of weapons and armors and better skill trees in ME2, I enjoyed the game as a whole even more and for me it is the single best game I have ever played. Also I found the gameplay in ME2 and ME3 more exciting because you couldn't just run straight into the middle of enemies anymore, use one power to make you virtually immortal and shoot all day long because you could upgrade your weapons to never overheat :)

I can't comment much on Skyrim being changed from for example Morrowind, because shame on me, I have not played other TES games. I enjoyed Skyrim somewhat in its vanilla state, but the amount of bugs was just way too much (at least I could use the developer console, but still). But after a while and with the help of mods Skyrim became one of the best gaming experiences for me. It is ridiculous tho with how much can Bethesda get away just thanks to its community :)

Hmm, I don't remember any major discrepancies between subtitles and voice over in DAO, it could be because of some mods. I am using Dialogue Tweaks (dazip version) + ZDF (Zevran Dialogue Fixes) + LRS (Leliana Romance Scenes) + Morrigan Restoration Patch. It requires some manual tweaking because of shared files, but it is worth it. On top of that add Dragon Age Rules Fixpack for combat fixes, mods like Dragon Age Redesigned, some parts of Improved Atmosphere (the ones to make the world feel more alive), Work in progress - Retextured DAO and some others and you turn an alrady good game into something really great :)

thanks for your thoughts on the games that I mentioned! I have reached the deep roads now after 47 hours playing one character (level 18 now) and noticed that some boxes Give injuries When you open them?! So I have been using leliana to do that. However I notice she has a permanent stat debuff to strength and dexterity?! Is this a bug or some mod issue ...

I think the deluxe is worth it for the mount but, I like riding and, it does look good. You can craft better weapons and armor but, they are decent when you first get them, for a level or two. I just wish the armor was not restricted to the inquisitor only - it would be nice to put my whole crew in matching armor.

It's kinda uncanny how much I relate to this. When DA:I was in developement, I was convinced that it would be a great game - that illusion is now broken. DA:I was such a let down and I've lost all sense of trust in any developer. It began with Blizzard and their DRM, no-lan practice for Sc2 and Diablo 3, but Bioware's mangling of DA:I is the straw that broke the camel's back, so to speak.

I, too, enjoyed DA2 more than DA:O. The combat was more enjoyable, despite the unending wave of enemies, and you could tell that the game was unfinished. Even so, you could see what Bioware had wanted to make of the game, and some part of me feels like the extreme criticism on DA2 was met with extreme reactions from Bioware, which might have negatively impacted DA:I's development. An example would be reused environments that everybody hated with a passion. A key part of DA:I's marketing was Bioware stating over and over: "No more reused environments, guys!" the result? Gigantic empty lanscapes. Ofc, this could also have been due to the fact that DA:I was likely built on top on an MMO blueprint, but it's something to consider.

Speaking of MMO roots, do you know what DA:I reminds me of? Kingdoms of Amalur. That game bored me to death. Couldn't even finish it, but at least the combat had some merit.
