So I just finished the Cold Endured and this time there was no Amulet of Power for the inquisitor in the chest in the final room. It has been there the previous times I've finished it - and it's stated in guides as well that it is there. I even reloaded from an earlier save and redid the fight in case it was glitching, but no amulet the second time either.

 

I wonder if this is because of some change in patch 5? And, if so, did they just remove it - or is it moved somewhere else? Weird.

 

It's basically the only reason I bother collecting shards so it's a bit disappointing if it just was removed.

Don't worry, you're not done being disappointed yet.

 

Currently amulets of power no longer spawn from the broken mirror in the Fade during Here Lies the Abyss.  Also no amulet of power's for Ironbull or Varric from killing high dragons.  Valammar no longer has an amulet for Varric.  Imshael no longer drops an amulet of power for Cole. 

 

I did find an amulet of power for Blackwall in Adamant though.  That's the only one I've seen since Patch 5.

Getting Amulets of Power for my inky has been an important "side quest" for me in all my latest play throughs.

Yeah i just did Valammar and there was no amulet for Varric. What is this?! I liked it, added some extra reason to go there and do the stuff. I still get them from table missions, havent checked if you still get the one for Inky in Crestwood house. Will update later.

I actually got the amulet of power for varric just before the patch in this playthough oh arnt I a lucky chap, did they fix the crestwood amulet bug, im not there yet

It seems like all amulets that dropped along other items have been removed, did western approach yesterday and lost 2 ability points for dorian because neither marcius nor the chest in still water ruins dropped one. I doubt it's intentional just sloppy coding and a side effect to fixing the crestwood amulet exploit. Kinda sucks knowing that I will miss many ability points that others got (without exploiting) on my playthrough because of this.

Yeah i am not playing my current save anymore until i know if this is intentional or not. Hopefully if it is a bug there will be a hotfix soon. Should post it as feedback i guess.

Agreed. It would be useful to know if this is a bug or an intended part of patch 5.

It's definitely intended as a way to keep people from getting infinite skill points. I don't much like it either, but compared to the alternative solution of getting rid of chest farming altogether, I'd say this is the lesser of two evils.

Beyond "fixing" the exploit, I'd like to know if the other Amulets of Power are missing because of a bug or if this is intentional. I have a save right after patch 5 was applied, so I'll just wait and see.

If they were going to remove the amulets, they should have hardcoded the skill points being added in at specified levels.  5, 10, 15, 20, etc.  So get 1 per level except for every 5 levels you get 2.  Bing...no more amulet of power exploiting.  And no more jerking players around.

Well, the weird thing is that the Crestwood amulet still drops. It's just the others that don't drop. The one in Celene's Vault doesn't drop for Vivienne et the one in the Fade doesn't drop either (the quest text still says "loot the amulet" though). 

 

This doesn't feel like it's intended and I'm not sure if I should continue my playthrough or just wait for a hotfix.

Yeah if it says Loot the amulet, something has to be wrong. They probably screwed it up while patching the glitch. SIGH!

With a list or knowledge of where the amulets should spawn, it'd be a simple matter to just edit them in.

I can tell you that with a post-patch save game, the following:

 

PC Post-Patch Missing Amulets:
1) Varric's in Valammar
2) Inquisitor behind final frost door in Forbidden Oasis 

3) Dorian's amulet in still ruins 

4) Dorian's amulet from Marcius of Griffon Wing Keep in Western Approach 

 

Also, pre-patch save games I was unable to find the amulets from the broken mirror or Cole's from killing Imshael.  But I did find Blackwall's at adamant.  

 

All-in-all it feels like a major screw up on Bioware's side.  But that's business as usual it seems with patches.  They break as many things as they "fix".

Why isn't there a topic in Support Forum to put some pressure on them like people did with the broken crafted shields after patch 4? In that case it worked well since they release an hotfix very soon.. are they even aware of this issue? I don't think this problem has been outlighted too much so far!
