DOJ Report on Ferguson

AG Holder's Announcement:
http://www.justice.g...rguson-missouri
Reports:
Police Dept: http://www.justice.g...ings_3-4-15.pdf
Shooting: http://www.justice.g...ael_brown_1.pdf
The report on the FPD is, as the AG stated, scathing, but also an interesting review of US law enforcement, how it is supposed to work, and how it can run amok.
Aside from the anecdotal incidents cited, what's most appalling to me is that this pattern of behavior documented here could go on for so long without the press or government representatives being up in arms about it. I mean, the abuse is so blatantly obvious - especially the excessive "Failure to Comply" citations. Why did it take a DOJ investigation to bring this light?

Apparently, the municipality used the police as a revenue generator for the city.
So do most municipalities in America, tbh.
Why do you think most small towns on the Interstate have big sudden drops in the speed limit from 75 to 55 (or thereabouts), and cops posted right at those points?

I don't know of most municipalities that turned on their own residents in this way to generate revenue. Maybe they do, just not where I live. I am not yet so jaded to believe this is normal. So do most municipalities in America, tbh.

I'm actually sort of impressed this thread has made it over two hours without being locked.
That's not a commentary on the thread, just an acknowledgment that the mods tend to jump on threads like this very quickly.

It looks like half of the Goths dancing are making fun of the other half. Or both halves are making fun of each other.

The entire reason a traffic camera exist is to collect money for the government. They don't stop people from driving badly, nor does their method of enforcement discourage bad behavior ((A steep fine is bad, but sending it out days after the incident just makes the person curse the state and nothing else.))
I don;t know where you live, but wherever it is, surely it has to have police officers with speed guns and traffic cameras up the wazoo. No place is safe from em.

There's a lot bigger problems russia aught to deal with first. First at the forefront, their drivers, and their ability to hold a monopoly on terrible driving skills caught on tape.

No, he is talking about Civil Forfeiture. As in they place charges against property like homes, cars etc and seize it. It's almost impossible to stop and any appeals are heard by the very people trying to take possession of said items. So, yeah it's a shity system that's easily abused. When making traffic stops Police now ask if you have more than $250 in your possession, if you do they often seize it. The Police department can then keep the money and do as they please. So do most municipalities in America, tbh.
