Is soloing platinum really that much harder than gold?

I've only attempted one solo on platinum, but it wasn't incredibly hard for me. I ended up failing on wave 7 devices I think.

Platinum enemies are just so slow since there's more bosses, and I feel like it just takes a little more patience than gold. Ninety percent of the times that I die, it's from a mook's machinegun fire tearing through my health and shield gates. When I'm fighting bosses though, I can easily predict how much damage I'm going to take and from where. All you really need for platinum is dps.

Plus, gold collectors are a pain in my (EDIT) butt.

It's longer, more annoying, and more boring... That's for sure ;)

It's harder, yes, but not THAT much harder. I think anyone that can solo gold can probably solo platinum, but platinum will obviously take longer. I find it more fun to solo than gold because I liked the mixed factions so in a sense, I think platinum is easier for me because it is more interesting.

I've only ever done 2 platinum solos, but in retrospect, the difference was mostly mental. During the 2nd one it was much easier since I had one under my belt already. I believe the damage dealt is a little higher and the wave budgets are larger, but beyond that it's the same.

It's that there isn't a virtual invincibility mode in Platinum.

Preset Geth/Gold and run Kroguard w/Cyclonics doesn't work with Platinum.

.

..

...

Er, well. It does, just, you're not face-pounding a sync. You know what I mean. >.> <.<

I personally found mixed factions the hardest part to deal with (initially) when they introduced Platinum. Adjusting my thinking to watching my back when banshees are porting at me from the front was, trial and error. I was used to one or the other, but factoring both took some hilariously unfortunate deaths.

Also learning Collectors should be in that train of thought. First game back after nearly a year hiatus I tried Collectors on Gold. Went like this, "WHAT DID THAT SWARM JUST DO TO ME I AM ON BEE-FIRE!...[Dalakaar is down]"

I quite disagree with most posters here as i find plat solos clearly more difficult. On gold solo i almost don t care about respawn and dont stick to every inch of cover.

On plat, you R always punished if U stay few instants in the open or for few secs in one spot. I guess i ll get use to it, but not yet

Did 3 waves

Looked at the watch

Saw the Praetorian had regenerated the Barrier in the meantime

Figured it'd take me more than 90 min

Said "**** it!" and looked for a gold lobby

There's not really any comparison between the two. Everyone with a BotB banner has solo'd Gold at least twice, and only a very small fraction of them can solo Platinum.

I would say Platinum is about ((3.5/2.5) - 1)*100 = 40% harder than Gold.

i wld go  (4.39/3.38 - 1) * 100 = 30 %.

Hum, i quite disagree with this

I havent tried a kroguard plat solo, but i m pretty sure it s not the easier setup on plat (acolyte GTrooper), and it s not granted like it is on gold.

It's not really harder. It's more tedious and you only need more DPS and possibly an anti-Phantom/Goon weapon.

The strategy is not that much different from Gold.

I'd say Kroguard is easier than Geth Trooper. Being able to regen your shields makes a huge difference and if you slap a Reegar on him then the damage output isn't too shabby either.

OT: Soloing plat is unquestionably more difficult than soloing gold but the difference isn't too severe. Sync kills are more likely and because of the bigger wave budgets/ enemy health pools a plat solo is always going to be slower than it's gold equivalent - that means more time for mistakes to occur and accumulate.

i like to kill mooks a bit too much, and i solo'ed gold quite much. So i guess i m not used to solo plat pressure and have to learn more safer ways (not always less aggressive)

Plat a bit boring, yeah, those bosses armor...

Hum, that s allready my problem on gold. I loose my focus/cold blood along the run ... Far worst consequences on plat

I miss your tips cato, wld U have one for me ? :D

Same here. I like those juicy headshots too much and I get bored quickly shooting that Atlas for more than 5 seconds.

Solos are undoubtedly harder on platinum than on gold. The enemies are more aggressive, they move faster, deal more damage and are more difficult to kill. This can be especially obvious to someone who predominantly plays gold, since a kit that can OSK something on gold might take two or more shots on platinum. And if we're talking clips, let me remind you there's less ammo in the boxes, which makes some weapons that shine on gold (Harrier, maybe Reegar too) not so shiny on platinum. The larger wave budgets make for longer games (only the most experienced soloists keep it consistently under 40 min, for someone relatively new to soloing in general it would likely be an hour and more), and in addition to having more time to make and regret your mistakes as others said, this also means a loss of focus/awareness during the final waves when you need it most.

The only thing that's 'easier' in a platinum solo is finding good spawns to nuke.

I guess it was wave 6? On topic: Technically it's not much harder than Gold solos, but Platinum enemies have more health/shields, also the wave budget is higher, the fight takes much longer and is less tolerant for mistakes, so overall it is much harder.

Yes. As Dala Kaar said, there isn't any "god mode" in platinum, like krogan or batarian against Geth in gold. The first 2 waves in gold are quite a warm-up, while it's immediatly serious business in platinum. The fact that you will face all the factions in plat means also that you will have to deal with all the possible problems the game can offer, and you have to quickly adapt to that from a wave to an other. And, of course, as several other posters already said, the higher budget in platinum means a longer solo, with more possibilities of mistakes and bigger consequences. While a gold solo can almost be trivialized with Armored Compartments, it's not really the case for a plat solo. Especially as not equiping the geth scanner is more problematic for platinum.

Soloing gold is not that hard to me. Soloing Platinum just takes forever and there is more opportunity for **** ups, not to mention if certain objectives come up it can be damn near impossible on some maps to finish. Plat also has certain waves that are just punishing, which gives the impression to some players that it would be easy to do it if they just set their minds to it but getting through those waves solo is a lot easier said than done. IDK how many ****** plat solos I've had that were perfect up until wave 8 on Collectors then the ****** wheels fall off. You can run through consumables extremely quickly in one time getting downed.

Yes, platinum solos are definatly harder than gold - gold I can solo with many different kits that I woulden't even try on platinum.

It's harder in the sense that it allows for less mistakes so you need to be more careful. This together with the fact that everything has more HP/armor/Shields/Barriers either forces you to use high DPS kits or endure long matches with lots of kiting around. Plus boss spam decreases the amount of viable/effective strategies. I hate soloing...
