If they don't follow the Gender pattern either side will go on a hissy fit.

It's not that. I typically play as female character in DA, but for the purpose of this game I had to change my Hawke to male after that one particular dialogue between Cassandra and Varric, because Thedas started to sound like a sorority. It's just weird.

Bioware should go with whatever they feel fits their stories best and not let their fear of a small portion of the fanbase cripple them.

>implying they didn't do that. They did exactly that.

Just because you don't find the inquisitrix fit to the story, doesn't mean bw feels the same way.

For example, I personally don't find the Mahariel story "fit" for Origins but they went and made her "default".

We must be playing on two different xbones then. Mine is clearly the silhouette of a male figure. I'm fairly acquainted with the female form. There's like... differences.

I always thought that it looked rather androgynous/feminine - a bit too slender for your average videogame male sword wielder...

Same here.... though if BW didn't say it was "ambiguous", you could easily say it's male.

They should've gone with the inquisition logo instead.

Then people really would make too many Skyrim comparisons. ;)

Sad it's not a dwaaaarf.

But I'm cool with Lady Trevelyan. :P

Poor lil cadash. :(

O dont get me wrong, you arent wrong it IS the " fair " choice to make here, the "make everyone happy" option so to speak however the point im trying to make is that Bioware should go with whatever they feel fits their stories best and not let their fear of a small portion of the fanbase cripple them.

In this case its not really a big deal since no matter who they chose as the default Hero the story would have played out the same but they have cut contents in the past because they were afraid how some of their fan base might react to said content ( namely the DA2 expansion ).

The DA2 expansion, I highly doubt it was cut just because  of how the fan-base might react.(Yes I read the post by gaider too.)  It was very close to completion when it was cut..and it was announced alongside the  'free' extended-cut ending.

I'm more surprised the default is a rogue, to be honest! It's normally been warrior or mage before, hasn't it? (M!Cousland warrior and M!Hawke mage? Not sure about Awakenings.)

As it happens my 'canon' IQ is a human female rogue (all 3 of my DA protagonists have been), but I never use the defaults in Bioware games because half the fun and point is making your own character when you get the chance, for me.

Defaults are Female Dalish Warrior and Male Mage Hawke. I think they're spreading it out across class/gender.

If they make a dwarf game, I'll feel for ya if they didn't make the default a dwarf.

And they do need a dwarf game btw. That's the only way they'll get a bigger following. They need to sell it better.

As much as I love dwarves, I don't think I'd want a "dwarf-specific" game. More content, definitely... but not a whole game.

Part of the fun of playing a dwarf is being an outsider. I love showing up in the Korcari Wilds like "wtf is a forest?" :P

I think their default makes sense. I heard that the female inquisitor is compared to Andraste, so it wouldn't surprise me if she followed in Andraste's footsteps.

That's where we differ then. I like the Stone culture. Not the outsiders as much. I'd play a game even with a band of dwarves ala the Hobbit. But don't like it if they're shoehorned into magic, Chantry, and human politics.

Ah ok, I hadn't realised Dalish was the default for Origins, I had it in my head that it was Cousland (for the DLC at least), for some reason.

The point about the IQ being compared to Andraste makes sense, though (and to some extent being human then, as well, since a human seems most likely to engage more with the faith aspects of the game than Dalish and Dwarves, at least.)

Yeah, they heavily marketed that Cousland Warden so it seems like the default, but in the end, went female elf. So it shows the marketing doesn't matter much.

Well, I like traditional dwarven culture too. One of my favorite parts of Origins was returning to Orzammar as a DC/DN.

I guess at the end of the day I just like dwarves, regardless of their cultural identity. :P

I just think they're better acommpanied with dwarven lore..then it becomes a richer experience. Dwarves otherwise are still very human like. As are the Qunari in this game. I'd rather play a Vashoth up North, where she/he is running into the Qun or other Vashoth more often and actually dealing with issues that affect their personal lives.

No, it's just the default in the keep. If you load up DA2, the default history is indeed, a male warden. You can choose a dalish pre-built hero, but it's not the 'default'. They changed it in the keep at some point, likely because they felt a male Hawke fit the storyline better and wanted at least the illusion of balance.

So is the Inquisitor the only default choice since apparently some people are boasting that Divine Cass is the default yet when I try a new character that hasn't been imported, I only get Leliana as Divine? Can anyone confirm if there are default choices for other options like Divine or the mage/templar choice?

And I only had Cassandra and Vivienne's tiles as Divine. The only tiles that is opened for Inquisition are the ones you did for your play through.

When I make a new world state I get Cass as the Divine and allied with mages which is also what I have for world states created before DAI went live, so seems like that is the default to me.

That was my first choice when I played. I'm currently playing as a female elf, but a human female was always my personal canon, and it really does feel right in my opinion, but the others are fun too! And I get this weird vibe from the human female and Cullen when they first meet, to the opening sequence at the Chantry, right up to when they travel to Skyhold. Always exchanging glances. I swear he's the intended romance or something... it just feels that way to me. Other races and males make it look odd, but it looks more natural with the default choice.

And even that is a little off.  Unless it doesn't load until you've beaten that playthrough.  I'm nearing the end of my third playthrough, which is my first one siding with the templars, and those options aren't up yet.  There's nothing for Calpernia despite the fact that I've already finished her sidequest.  A few others as well, like Blackwall not showing up as a romance tile even though I've done all of the romance scenes with him except for the final one after the last battle.

I just made a new Keep world state and Leliana is still Divine. Guess Cass isn't the default considering Leliana is the one I got for a new character.

I guess you don't understand.... You've only made Leliana the divine, so that'll be the only tile that shows up for you. Stop trying to push this "Leliana is the true divine," crap.
