I have never cared what BioWare's default is for anything, and I still don't.
I don't think anyone really does. I don't think many pay for a Bioware RPG to play as a set protagonist.

Mage is my favorite to roll in DA2. I tend to always play a female Hawke because I can't ever design the male Hawke the right way in CC. He just never looks right - otherwise I'd roll him ALL the time!
So in DAO which elf was default? The Dalish or the mage?
It's supposed to be the Dalish female one, since finding the mirror kind of set things in motion it seems.

Okay? Not sure why it matters. Does that makes anyone else's playthroughs that aren't females nothing but fan fiction? Not really. Considering the Keep makes the default PCs redundant.

I'm more surprised they don't have a trigger warning for Mike Hawke TBH
I mean he's pretty intimidating up close (Not that he isn't visible form afar as he most certainly is! The largest man in Thedas FYI ) but he can go off on a moments notice... DO NOT APPROACH HIM FROM BEHIND! If you scare him God knows what could happen to you.

the wider fan community seems to have accepted the dalish elf as biowares cannon. Meh, its fine I think.No, it's just the default in the keep. If you load up DA2, the default history is indeed, a male warden. You can choose a dalish pre-built hero, but it's not the 'default'. They changed it in the keep at some point, likely because they felt a male Hawke fit the storyline better and wanted at least the illusion of balance.

Hmm, I like the DA books and comics but the comic's canon has King Alistair which is not my canon play through. It was enjoyable but I found at times that I had to remind myself that he isn't a Warden/Drunk. Lol.

It's not an emphasis. It's a cool reveal at the end..but the the emphasis is Ferelden and Orlesian chaos, mage/templar and Chantry issues, and a mad Tevinter magister.

There's just so much from that history that shapes this one.. Tevinter and dwarves are tied with it's downfall too.. So you'd get a little of everything.
