I'd love a game though that went more into their lore. Like uncovering Arlathan or something.
With the forshadowing, it could be in the next game. Protagonist in that scenario will be a male elven warrior, me thinks.

Disclaimer, I don't mind the female choice, but one thing that kind of annoys me is overkill in the Inquisition founders. Default is all female, except Cullen. Personally, I thought my male rounded it out.. and even then, it's mostly female.
Yeah, but there is solas and he is a magic advisor? But yeah, I see your point. Meh, my inky will always be a human guy..with british voice..who swept cass of her feat.Disclaimer, I don't mind the female choice, but one thing that kind of annoys me is overkill in the Inquisition founders. He's a mystery man who comes to their camp at the beginning after the breach.. Still important, of course, but I mean the leadership.
i can never have too many females in muh game.

I like females too. I don't want to repeat that Epic Thread from awhile back..
Just saying, at least for some balance, I like being the other guy at the table besides Cullen. And me and Cass the field agents.
I believe this game's target audience is women, so I'm not surprised.
Actually, kind of makes me wonder why I bought it. Whatever.
Also the people saying it doesn't "invalidate anyone's playthrough" is lying. The default state is how each character made decisions according to Bioware - without active player changes to it, that's "what was supposed to happen", essentially. If the author is telling you how they'd like the backstory to be, even though you can change it, that's more "canon" than anyone else's since, you know, it's the author that made it.
Uhm, if you think the games target audience is women: then you really, really do need to go, and take a look at the theory, and processes, that establish a target-audience. Then after you have done that, go and look at the marketing techniques bioware used up until launch.I believe this game's target audience is women, so I'm not surprised.

They tried to make it as neutral as possible. I don't see how it's female biased.
They provided some playthrough stats though. It's still a heavy male playerbase (or heavy on male characters). But the number jumped up a bit from ME3. 30 percent female as opposed to 18 percent or so in ME3, I think.

Remember the rule. Never feed it, unless you do so in moderation. Too much will make the precious hungrier.
If people really think default is canon, then default Renegade Shepard who killed everyone and did no side quests is canon.

I think the comparison applies somewhat, but they've taken a slightly more fleshed out angle with their defaults. Especially with Hawke. Can't really avoid it.. you don't exactly have many opportunities to reject quests and choices.
I haven't look at the Inquisitor, but it seems like the same deal.

Does it matter? The default Inquisitor is named Evelyn, but by design, the game allows me to pick another. Whether or not one feels it's "supposed" to be Evelyn makes no difference to me, just like it makes no difference to me which face is supposed to be the "true" one, and with the game at least acknowledging the name in text (like Sera's journal), that's all I really require. Heck, just look at the Warden. The default is dead, but mine isn't, and the games acknowledge as such, so the game itself validates the alternate time lines just fine.
I don't care if Sheploo or default FemShep's face is on the cover of my copy of Mass Effect; that face isn't in my save file. Doesn't matter if it's headcanon or whatever. It's just a story for me to enjoy, and I enjoy it more when I take advantage of options in the game.

On a sidenote, default Evelyn reminds me of Jena Malone. Trying to imagine this as live action now..
I wonder why people think the default character and her choices means anything but the simplest way to go through the story, creating as little ballast as possible for the next game, and perhaps a little gender and class balance thrown in where it doesn't go against the primary purpose. I mean, just consider the name. "Evelyn Trevelyan" is a name I'd rather run away from. It screams "Change me, I sound like a parody" in the player's face. And as for the Inquisitor's face, there is no default. Different faces were used in the published videos where developers played the game, and the Inquisitors were wearing the dragon helmet in the rest of the marketing material.

I think you're taking it more seriously than I am.
As for the default face, I'm just bullsh*ting here, musing on things. Jena Malone just kind of came to mind. I play a male mage myself.

Right, because you of all people obviously wouldn't start yelling how default is canon had they made Leliana default divine. ![]()

On the other hand, this means s/he helped save the universe from Conrad Verner, so... swings and roundabouts?
Default isn't canon. And Bioware always takes the path of least resistance with as many optional characters dead as possible. It makes their job easier for future games. Our canon is canon. Thats it.

LMAO.

This is BSN. People throw fits when they use a male for their trailers. Everything ends up as a equality issue on these forums and it gets annoying.

BW canon follows a more Renegade-style Shepard, so that may or may not fit.
