Who is this Lorgain you speak of? Is he some new DLC character we haven't heard of?

Here's my hierarchy of sacrifice:

1. Stroud
2. Loghain
3. Alistair or Hawke(if rest of family dead)
4. Hawke (If sibling alive)

Well killing Loghain was the only decision all twenty+ of my Wardens all agreed on so I've never had that choice.  It was either Stroud or Alistar.  Alistar survived in his one appearance, Stroud not so much.

Hawke.  Always Hawke.  Why?  Because it is rightly pointed out that we need -someone- to take charge of and restore the Wardens, be it Alistair, Loghain, or Stroud.  Of course, then the bloody idiot goes and takes off for The Anderfels, but your character doesn't know that at the time.

Plus... Warden.  Duh.  Who wouldn't choose to save a warden?  They're... well, maybe I'm letting a bit of hero worship seep into my views here.

B*llshit cut-scene arbitrary death. Given how heavily I facerolled Terror, it's ridiculous to think we couldn't have done the same with the stupid spider monster. But oh no, instantly assume the fight is unwinnable, and give up trying straight away...

Ashley/Kaiden was the last time they did one of these choices vaguely sensibly, and even then, it was idiotic. The main story in Inquisition is so mind-numbingly inane.

I always spare Loghain in DAO so he can die in DAI and Hawke can live.

I was getting tired of the Wardens' shenanigans, and the price of their alliance is the life of whichever Warden I'm stuck with. Doesn't matter if it's Stroud, Loghain, Alistair or the HoF. All will be sacrificed. If they have any modicum of competence in them, they can rebuild without that one person. If not, they deserve their fate.

While I disagree with your reasoning, I must say  that I respect the sort of hard core dedication required to ensure someone croaks over the course of three games!

Hawke is in the abyss.

He has to fall.

To learn to fly.

So I chose Hawke.

He's gonna die and become some bizarre spirit thing and kick ass and stuff.

Hey when it comes to Hawke who was my introduction to the DA series, she'll always come first, and since I like Loghain, I can never bring myself to kill him in DAO, but someone's got to go sadly, and it won't be my girl! Lol

despite the flaws of DA2 I am attached to my Hawke character so I never leave her behind.

Stroud on the other hand, don't know him so don't care.

Loghain? Well I may have spared him once but never again.

Alistair? If he romanced my HoF and got left behind, well I see a battle between my inquisitor and a very powerful angry widow in the future. Otherwise he seems like a child. Even his tone in regards to the events 10 years ago. The exiled prince who was over shadowed by the HoF. He's a bitter fool. I leave him behind.

The Nightmare demon is a rare creature who needs only the best meal to grow beautiful and stronger, and once he said to me confidentially that he like to eat Guys with beautiful mustache and with a french accent.

So the order is

Stroud>Stroud>Stroud>stroud

Little thought for Hawke, i would personally never left hawke behind, if Hawke Die  his/her family would be at best have only one member Carver/Bethany who will lose everything literally, at worst the whole family is Dead.

I left Hawke because it was as if Flemeth told me to do so in DA2.

EDIT: Yes I'm Flemeth's slave. With her voice? I'll do anything.

I chose to leave Loghain behind and save Hawke.  I have read all the DA Books and didn't really like Loghain much to begin with, especially after what happened at Ostagar.  Admitedly, I liked Loghain more in DAI than I had previously in DAO or the DA Books.  However, I saw my decision to leave Loghain behind as a chance for Loghain to redeem himself for Ostagar.  Also, since I played as Hawke in DA2 and actually liked my Hawke character, there really wasn't any hesitation on my part.  Had I chosen to leave Hawke behind, instead of Loghain, Varric would have (very likely) lost one of his only true friends.  Granted we don't know for sure that the person left behind is dead and we could, in fact, get some DLC that would require us to mount a rescue or recovery mission of sorts.  That might actually be interesting...

It might be wishful thinking but since there is no actual proof of death... I suspect that a mage Hawke could survive the fade and somehow find a way out. Or since we've seen not only wardens join with a spirit in DAI but also in DA2 (Anders and Justice) its possible the warden left behind could find a helpful spirit and escape.

I'm curious if this will be in a DLC...

I reluctantly sacrificed Warden Stroud. It sucks to lose such an epic mustache, but I can't sacrifice the Champion of Kirkwall. However, I'll probably sacrifice Hawke on my second play through to see what happens. I felt a little guilty for leaving the Wardens leaderless the first time around.

question is is keeping lorgain or stroud on thedas and hawk in the fade which is the potential bigger personal sacrifice ?

i can never let loghain live in DAO.

between hawke and stroud, as much as i would've liked to get to know stroud more cos he seemed like a good man, unfortunately i developed a bond with hawke over the course of many DA2 playthroughs (not everyone hated DA2, you know), so this was a no-brainer.

IF it had been between hawke and alistair, then i honestly don't know who i would've chosen.  thankfully, alistair is king of ferelden in my canon save.

I feel bad whatever choice I make :(

One the one hand, Grey Wardens, on the other... Varric really can't catch a break :((
