I left Hawke because it was as if Flemeth told me to do so in DA2.

EDIT: Yes I'm Flemeth's slave. With her voice? I'll do anything.

I'm Solas slave glad that he has eaten Flemeth and Urthemiel, Gnam good meal for the Wolf, and it will be a dream to see him do the same to her daughters and the rest of the gods.

Long live to the wolf !

So far only left the warden in the fade. They are all about heroic sacrifice after all, and it's not like they have much to look forward to in their future aside from their real calling. Hawke on the other hand, was a candidate for heading the inquisition, and knows how to handle stuff even when it goes FUBAR, Thedas needs someone like him more.

That said, the "choice" was horribly handled, made no sense at all, and is a perfect cringe worthy example for the worst kind of Cutscene Incompetence.

Yeah, the "choice" seemed completely unnecessary, The portal was about a few feet away for all three of them, yet one of them has to run further back to be a distraction? Bull.

Who leaves behind:

1. Stroud. I care about my Hawke more than I care about him.

2. Hawke. If Alistair is a warden then I create some random Hawke at the Keep so I can sacrifice him because I don't want to sacrifice my warden's LI.

If Alistair wasn't my warden's LI then I wouldn't have any problems with this decision but because he is so this decision annoys me quite a lot. Romances are very important to me and I just don't like it that I have to choose which one of them will end because at the moment there isn't a third option.

First playthrough: Stroud and random Hawke, chose Hawke to have a warden to rebuild. (Somehow got the impression only he was left to rebuild).
2nd: Loghain and favorite (female, sarcastic) Hawke, chose Loghain to keep Hawke alive and give the old bastard a heroic ending.
3rd: Alistair and favorite Hawke, haven't reached the decision yet but it will be... tough.

I always leave Warden, no matter who he is (poor Alistair). It just feels... right, considering what kind of person my Hawke is and what Wardens represent.

And I get that feeling every time the cutscene begins: "Eh, Hawke. You say Cory is your responsibility? Good, then get out of here and help me beat his ass." and it doesn't matter that she leaves soon after that.

That said, Warden staying... just makes more sense to me.

I still think it was pointless to even make that choice, but well...

Just left Hawke behind... the reactions of Varric tugged so much on my heart strings I don't dare leave a Hawke behind again. :(

Stroud.

Why would I place some Warden I maybe have seen for 4-5 hours total, over a guy I've played as multiple times? I care about Hawke a lot more.

But your Inquisitor doesn't know either one of them.

I always save Hawke. Despite DA2 flaws, Hawke (the sarcastic one) is the most charismatic protagonist in the DA series. Actually, one could argue that since s/he is not the old-fashioned stereotypical world/galaxy saving hero, s/he is the most original character you get to play in an RPG.

I agree. No matter how many flaws DA2 had, I fell in love with sarcastic Hawke after few minutes.

All this talk makes me want to play DA2 again... Yup, I'm totally gonna play it.

I really like Hawke. I also have great respect for the Wardens (I recruited them).

I decided to sacrifice Hawke because of his "Corypheus is mine" line. He has a score to settle here, and seems really motivated to do so.

In my current game, I sacrificed Hawke.  It hurt me so bad to send her to her (almost) certain death.  And afterwards talking to Varric when my Inquisitor gave him the hug...  That almost broke me. I almost did a reload.  But Stroud generally gets left behind since Allister is king and Loghain was always killed in a duel.

I'm not sure I can ever leave hawke in teh Fade.  He was the Butt Monkey of Thedas all through DA2, he deserves a break for once.

I can't actually see the logic of saving Stroud over Hawke.   Not only is Stroud meant to be close to his true calling but also the idea that he is the only one who can rebuild is a bit daft, particularly since you also have Blackwall, who you are not meant to know yet is not a real Warden (even if based on your previous knowledge you do rumble it before the game reveals it).    The other disappointing part is that if you do save Stroud and let the Wardens stay in Orlais, instead of helping rebuild and providing. leadership, he immediately disappears off to the Anderfels.

I have yet to use my Alistair Warden LI to Hero Warden playthrough but that might prove to be a bit more problematic.

Really they should have made it a choice between the  Hero of Ferelden and the Champion of Kirkwall; I'm pretty sure that was the original intention but then they got cold feet imagining the fan backlash.       To be honest, though, this old trope of having to choose between one companion and another is getting a bit stale.

Sacrificing Stroud makes more sense to me. He's a senior warden which means his true calling isn't likely too far away. Hawke still has a chance at a decent life span. It's like asking someone to give up 40 years of life to give someone else 5 years.

Still, given how my Knight enchanter Inquisitor solo'ed a level 23 high dragon without losing any of her health I'm not convinced she couldn't beat the ever loving crap out of that demon.

Doesn't matter, I'm 90% sure we'll see them in DA4/rescue them in DLC.

It has been a long standing tradition of me to kill off my past player character. In the old days, I never had a choice, for some reason my character (in a game with multiple choosable pcs) always ended up the big bad in the sequal. Nowadays I have the hero save the day... and then the hero dies. Sorry Varric.

I think the whole decision is a bit weird. Why couldn't you choose anyone of your party? It would have made more sense to sacrifice Blackwall for example instead of one of them because they are more important than him. Well if you could sacrifice anybody then the following events would have been difficult to create because anyone of your companions could be dead.

I wouldn't have wanted that the decision would have been between warden and hawke either. I just want that they can retire somewhere far away. I guess I'm not that interested in choosing who will be sacrificed between two characters. It's more interesting if there is a third option like DR or that you could actually see suffering or that your actions leads to suffering instead of deciding who will die.

That was my issue with it. I can buy that it's too big a fish for you to truly defeat and that you know it but you weren't far form the portal before you stopped to decide who should run back and be a distraction. If it's a very powerful uber demon in the fade I don't think your distraction would make too much of a difference anyway.
