Game Version: NWN 2 complete 1.23.1765 English
Game Language: English
Retail or Digital: gog gaming
Processor Manufacturer: intel
Processor Type: xeon cpu e3-1271 v3
Processor Speed: 3.6ghz
Operating System / Service Pack: windows 7
System RAM: 16 gigs
Video Card Manufacturer: NVIDIA
Video Card Model: geforce gtx 780 ti
Video Card Driver Version: geforce experience 2.2.2.0?
Hard Drive Type: SATA

So my problem is that my game of Neverwinter Nights 2 will randomly crash so bad that it restarts my computer. I tried setting it to play on a single core, started with admin privileges, set graphics to lowest, disabled shadows, reinstalled and all that but my game will randomly crash. it will crash at the same spot every single time while i'm walking around a map or as soon as a new area is loaded. i can get away with it occasionally by diddling around with the settings but the crashing has been happening more frequently and i'm stuck in act 2 when i'm in duskwood.

It's almost certainly not an NWN2 issue. Failing Video Card or failing memory seem the most likely culprits, which may be caused by overheating.

But I can play other video games with no issues. It's only nwn2 that crashes my computer really bad.

NwN2 pushes graphics cards super-duper hard.

One way to find out for certain is to stress test your hardware.

Take the case off your computer and blow out all the dust, maybe wipe off the video card--use a static wristband--wipe the vents off the case so they are not blocked by dust. My computer lost its video feed and I did this and it came back (thank the Goddess). Unplug the power first, and don't rub your feet on the carpet.

Yes, cleaning your gaming PC once every 6-12 months is recommended to avoid cooling issues.

It is an NWN2 issue.  Even if this is done a year ago,  I use my current comp for 3D software which is way more heavily loaded than NWN2.  Win 10 is having issues with NWN2 on some people's computers, like mine.   I can play any other program and it works fine.

it's not cleaning.. not overheating.. it's NWN2  with Win 10.   Just need to find the solution or option as to why.

2006 game being super duper hard on today's graphics card.. seriously? I had to laugh at that. Even if the programming isn't the best.. still.

The game engine most likely isn't multi-threaded and doesn't take advantage of modern GPU technology, so I suspect it may labor even on modern systems. I do still experience some flickering from (presumably) slow frame display. That's on a decent Win 8.1 system that runs more modern 3D games just fine.

if the thread creator ever comes back: tried to enable vsync for nwn2? i had an area which was always crashing (automatically resetting pc) with vsync disabled. dunno why, but enabling it was the solution.

I recently switched from an AMD card to a GForce 9700 and also got a new monitor; increased the resolution substantially (2560x1440) and it still runs very smoothly. Had Win10 since the start and never had a crash; have no special settings. Play almost every day. Ergo I must come to the conclusion if people have problems that they are specific to their computer.

P.S. I do use Skywing's, as I have for years.
