You guys know that if most pugs do the mistakes you say they do, then that also means most of the folks talking trash here made the same mistakes too. So it's only natural that if you know better, you should be acting as the bigger brother in a team. Otherwise just play with your friends only, and never know what a challenge is.
And you guys keep saying pugs never gel. Well, all pugs don't have 6/6 ops/gels either. So if you only had 2 of each, you wouldn't be using them until later waves. And pugs do gel more later in a match from personal experience as well. ... Just don't know if they know what ops packs are?
The emboldened bit absolutely sums up my general approach to the game, and if I play 1 in 20 games with friends that's about it. It's not about 'winning', it's supposed to be a co-op game where nobody wins unless everybody wins, to cite Bruce Springsteen's philosophy. When I mentioned getting Lone Survivor, I wasn't bragging, I was lamenting the fact that if I get a Lone Survivor medal it's only because the pugs have been beyond help.
Now, bearing in mind that mics are as rare as hens' teeth on PS3, imagine you're a low level pug and a dude with an unusual banner you've never seen before lands in your Gold Giant lobby. You're initially surprised because he's not playing a Jugg or a TGI or an AIU, or another Infiltrator, or even a GT, and then you see that he has level 3 and 4 equipment. You then notice that he has over 100K CP. How do you react? My experience would be that in maybe 8 out of 10 matches of this type, the low level pugs will do one of two things: try to 'beat' you, or expect you to carry them to victory. And I do mean carry. In maybe 1 or 2 cases they will quite obviously follow your lead - sometimes it can be charming if infuriating, eg a Shield Boost-spamming Volus when you have a single shot weapon - and actually learn something about how the game works.
As for your point about gels - if people are open about what they have and what they are trying to achieve, I will happily support them as much as is reasonably possible. I enjoy the big brother role very much, and even if people are just chancing their arm on a level they're not fit to play I'll support them too. For a while. But stupid play is stupid play. If I, as that previously mentioned high ranking player, am involved in a wipe with low level pugs, everybody, myself included, will hold me responsible, no matter what the actual circumstances are. I think that's one of the reasons why players like me tend to have multiple alt accounts - it's fun to be that 'surprisingly good pug' from time to time.
I have put my time in, paid my dues, and learnt how the game works. I didn't play any public matches until well after I could solo 3 waves on Bronze regularly, and I didn't play Silver publicly until I could solo Bronze and 3 waves on Silver. I didn't play Gold until I could solo Silver, and so on. But I understand that the levelling up in the game is hugely flawed and most people don't have my patience, so they will be looking for those credits. I'm genuinely happy to help, but just don't take the p*ss.

And so what if I don't make paday? I got maxed manifest, what do I care. I'm in it only for a good time.
Remember, everybody says it's all about the community that makes this game so good.
These are kinda contradictory statements, don't you think?

By that criterion I still shouldn't be allowed to play in public games.... ![]()

Leechers will always be around regardless of the game. It's just one aspect of pugging that you'll have to accept. New players are always popping up in this game, and if leechers were around 3 years ago, there's no reason why leechers wouldn't be around now.
Admittedly, I hated leechers back in the day because I didn't have the skills to carry them, so if I had 2 or 3 leechers in the match we were almost certainly doomed to fail. Nowadays, I couldn't care less about them. It's a neat little challenge to put your skills to the test.

I'm totally okay with people checking out gold. What I can't stand is people that get uber carried (17k against reapers) and after the match, they still want to host gold. Dude/dudette, you just spent 30 minutes on the ground with your pred 3. Maybe trying a lower setting.
I do remember 1 time (seriously, only once) that my team wasn't using consumables and bleeding out a lot and around wave 6 they get wiped. I used gels, ops, and rockets and got the team through the wave. Wave 7 I see them start using consumables and we made it to extraction. It felt like Shepard inspiring my team to be better.

Maybe a lot of leachers on Platinum (since no pug can do well enough there without some dps & that's were the money is at), but for Gold I don't recall much fitting this bill. Anything seems to go on Gold.

Really, you never moved up to Gold unless you could solo Silver? I guess that for sure had to of prepared you somewhat well enough, but do tell. For me it was around the 400 hour mark and when I at least had some or all maxed Rare weaponry (I recall all). The other part was Silver was getting really boring as any challenge totally vanished. But I still wasn't ready for Gold at all. Nothing in Silver teaches you how to play Gold properly, outside of maybe soloing (which never enters my mind). So no matter what, I must of been a terrible pug the first few times. And on top of that, I mostly only used level 1 consumables up until I maxed manifest... which actually paid off big time. I got over near maxed in high level consumables now, suckers!!! And thanks for carrying me! Peace out! *runs*

I just play anyway and anyhow. The pugs have to learn to deal with it.

Title should read after 3 years, fresh meat pugs are still keeping this game alive + making sure we always have a quick game available.
