It's not like trenches were invented in 1911. Pits like those have been used, especially with the spikes, for thousands upon thousand of years.

To me it screamed "HOW THE F*CK DO I GO THERE THIS SH*T IS SUCH A F*CKING MAZE I'M GOING CRAZY".
But yeah, it did have a WW1 feeling to it all. I really love the Exalted Plains, except for these damn trenches.

The Exalted Plains is like one of my least favorites and the loud War Horns.

and the loud War Horns.
I know right! Almost fell of my chair the first time, and I continue to cringe whenever I hear them.

LOL! I lower my volume right before I click it. They should have done some volume control on that.

Pretty much this. Nowhere did I spend more time running around in circles, unable to get where I wanted. Then there was the Golden Halla... Exalted Plains was not one of my favourite maps.

Well yeah, but I mean China had something like that powered by gunpowder even then.

Interesting. Never got that vibe although I did liked the scarred feeling it had.

Personally I loved the place.
Only annoying thing was finding the champions the first time.

I was annoyed that it was called "Plains" when it was nothing but forest, rocky outcrops, river, and marsh, there is like no flat grassland

They always appeared at the weirdest moments for me.

That stuff makes up a comically insignificant part of that map. It's also a good hint at what the area probably did look like before it was razed to the ground.

Build a few forts here and there and a few magical explosions, and anything can change an area. They probably just thought exalted plains sounded good. Should have called it the Exalted Fields, though. Would make a lot more sense.

Spoiler.
It's a weapon of mass destruction all on its own.

wasn't that part of the fortifications of an Orlesian fort?
Or did I miss a codex entry or something

The Orlesians built the fort on top of some elven ruins. Hence the Hippie Death Ray.
Because only elves would ask, "What would be a greener way of killing people?"

There's always a newb somewhere, deciding to use ancient technology they have no understanding of to defend themselves.
