Hey guys, I caught some strange effect twice, during casting an upgraded Veilstrike (Punching down) and, may be, Static Cage (don't sure). The enemies suddenly went into sleep, in first case, right after being knocked down by the Solas' Veil. They stood up along the edges of affected zone, and found themselves sleeping. All AI is turned off, I cast spells by commanding my party members directly, so no chance for the sleeping cloud being cast by the rogues in the party. No such an effects in the equip of the party members, just common +magic +critical rate. I don't think it's a bug, more likely it's just something I don't know yet. So, any ideas about this strange sleep effect?

For some reason, shocked + weakness = sleep. An incredibly useful little trick that the game inexplicably forgets to tell you.

What's really cool is when you have a lightning mage with Cassandra in the party. Cassandra has a passive that gives the entire party a 5% chance to weaken enemies per hit. Energy barrage, when used with a lightning staff, is a 12 hit attack that shocks the opponent and is an Eldritch detonator. What does this mean? This means that 60% of the time, when you cast Energy Barrage, you will shock the enemy, weaken them, put them to sleep, then perform a cross class combo resulting in massive damage and panicking them. All with one attack.

Although it's nice to take advantage of, there is a problem when you shock an enemy that is immune to sleep.  If a target is shocked, you can't apply weakness until you can put the target to sleep.  This basically means your mana, damage, and defense utility are gone if you accidentally put shocked on a sleep-immune enemy (pretty much any boss and probably giants, etc).

bigdawg. the mana bonus does still apply to shocked enemies if you have the passives to do it.  It's how I keep up an almost constant barrage of spells on enemies.  The only reason I run low of mana for a second or two is because the affect wears off or I do a double or triple set of large cost spells right in a row.  Which I'm prone to doing from time to time.

however bigdawg does have a point. If you really want to avoid shocked you have to build with avoiding it in mind so it is still a buyer beware situation.  You'll have to avoid lightning spells and be careful who has lightning staves in your party.

The nuances of weakness and Rift Mage continue to elude me.  Thank you Reptillius.
