I had to post this from a phone.

Everything I've read about how Origin is like Steam, where it defauls to offline mode is 100% false. Steam does not allow that either. The reality is that you Must be connected to the internet in some way, to access your account, in order to get to the settings of offline mode. With No connection you cannot even log in.

Anyone that can log into their account is still somehow connected to the internet in some way and doesn't realize it.

Right now, I have zero internet signals coming into my house, and both, Steam and Origin, will not let me log in them at all. In order for me to access offline mode, I am going to have to, connect online, log into my accounts, go to settings, and set it to offline mode.

Hmm, I turned off the wifi adapter on my laptop and could easily access both Origin and Steam in offline mode even when Origin asked me to log in with my email and password. I think what you are describing happens when you haven't connected to either service for a very very long time.

Origin asks you to log in on or off line (assuming you didn't tell it to remember you) It will log in OFFLINE if no connection is available.

I've run games with my PC physically disconnected from my house network. So unless someone opened my case and inserted a WiFi card without me knowing about it... no, Origin does not require a connection. First activation aside, of course. There may be a time limit on how long you can go without checking in, though. I've never left the plug pulled for more than a couple of days.

Unlike Steam, Origin will let you stay in offline mode forever not forgetting your details.

Steam forgets your details after a month or so of no internet. Which is something thats been known about by them for quite awhile..

I can log in when my internet isn't working.

Fortunately, since it seems like my Router is on the blink or something

That's false. I had steam and sometimes, they forgot my information and have to relogin when I don't have internet connection while with Origin, I can log in anytime I want without connecting to the internet.

Even when I unplugg the power cable from my router, I can still start Steam and Origin in offline mode just fine. I think that when there is nothing to transmit the signal to your computer, you are pretty much offline. Or do I receive a sneaky signal from somewhere? Perhaps a spaceship hovering above my location? Are they here to get me?

What more proof do you need? Should I grab my computer, run with it to the nearest nuclear bunker and try to log in there?

Anyway, I don't even know why I bother replying, you are either setting up a new account or haven't been logged in for like a year or you encountered a glitch or you are trolling.

There is No glitch, or bug. You all are online and have set your account to access offline so of course you can log in.

I did not adjust my offline settings while online so now I'm screwed.
In order for me to get into my account I Must get back online and Chang the settings.
Simple as that.

Why don't one of you dumb-asses who think you know everything, explain to me how to get into my account and set it to offline mode, when it is impossible for me to do so without an internet signal.

Until anyone can explain that, stop replying.

No, I haven't set my Origin or Steam as offline prior to exiting them. They were very much online when I shutted them down. Then I disconnected my computer from that sneaky internet and logged back in in offline mode without any issues. Origin asked me for my password, Steam started without that. So the problem is somewhere on your side.

And let me point out to you, that you are in a wrong part of the forum. Heck, you are even on the wrong forum completely. You should post this somewhere where EA help can get to you, not the BW feedback section :D You know that EA are the ones who made Origin and not BioWare?

So instead of calling us names and behaving like a child, you should take your sorry ass elsewhere.

Still I can't shake the feeling you are just trolling. Either way I hope this thread will get locked soon. But I won't try to derail it, it doesn't work and I learned one can get a warning and a 24 ban for posting dongcopter pirate videos

Sorry people but if you're able to get into your account, without an internet signal, you're either lying, you're still connected to the internet somehow, or you set offline mode up while you were logged into your account.

This was true once, but it isn't true anymore. I just pulled out my connector. Even with internet connection conclusively down -- yes, I checked to make sure I didn't have some mysterious WiFi I never heard of installed -- I was able to start ME3 and load a game just fine. (ME3 because it's got a short load time.)

And Origin is set online, as it always is.

Look, I don't want to minimize your problem, but you need to stop being an ass about this. What's happening to you isn't happening to us.

Unplugging the cord from the computer, or shutting the wifi off, does't stop the signal itself.

Having a signal means you're still connected to the net.

Origin offline mode is only possible if and only if you have already gone into your account settings while online and set it to do so which can only be done from online. Because default is online.

In order for me to get into offline mode, I have to change the settings in my account, which can only be done when I am logged in, and logging in requires the internet which I do not have. So No I cannot access any game on my account you smart-asses.

Those damn magic internet waves. Yup, unplugging my PC from the internet still allows it to magically receive internet because magic.

Wait, what? A computer without a wired or wireless connection can still contact the internet?

Thanks, lynroy. I jumped right over that because I figured he couldn't have been saying something that crazy.

I just looked into the settings of Origin and there is no(!!!) setting whatsoever related to offline mode, which leads me to assume that the information is always stored on your HDD/SSD, unlike Steam where infact you do have to check a box on Login.

Which leads to 2 possibilities, one of which is unpleasant for you and the other one being unpleasant for us:

- You forgot to allow origin to store its data and yes the UAC will ask whether you trust the program or not.

- You are just trolling.

You need to be online to change your settings. But once you've set it to offline mode, it runs offline just fine.

Not setting it to offline mode is just reckless.

If Origin had been online once at some point in time, you were logged in with your account and the game you want to play was activated, then offline mode will work fine. Start Origin, try to log in, fail because of no internet connection and default to offline mode. Done.

Just tested this and it works perfectly. Except for Origin not remembering which games were hidden.

Basically, this guy's problem boils down to having a problem with needing internet to make an account.

Or something. I'm not sure.

I'm loving the magical internet though. EA and it's pawns.

Magic internet is a bit like secret President. Sure it makes you feel as if you've been lied to your entire life when you find out about it, but there are awesome perks like never having to use wires again.

Damn, I wish I had known this in the past when I decided to drill through a thick wall made of blocks in order to connect my desktop with a router, whereas I could have just absorbed all those sweet magical internet waves from the air.

No kidding, if you are offline, you can't change that to ONLINE unless you connect to the internet. That does not mean you cannot log in to Origin and launch a game.

Maker knows I do it often enough. I have satellite internet which mean foul weather frequently prevents me form connecting to the internet. I do NOT have Origin set to offline mode. It logs me in every time I start Windows. I can launch my Origin games on or off line. I cannot change my cloud setting or edit my profile offline. I cannot change to online mode if I do not have an internet connection and, I cannot change Origin to start in offline mode unless it is online but, none of that prevents me  playing my Origin games without a connection to the internet.

And while I'm here mind explaining how a computer can connect to a wireless network without a wifi adapter because the one in my partner's desktop is fried and, he can't go online until the new adapter I ordered gets here next week. If you can explain it to me, I can cancel the order, save myself 40 USD and, a few minutes work changing the old one out.  [then I'll sell you that ocean front condo I own just outside of Phoenix, AZ.]
