I can't seem to import my saves onto Mass Effect 2, and I can't figure out what is wrong. Is there something I have to do to import my saves?

Go to the start-up screen, select configuration, go to Save Games, select the copy option.
Here's where it gets tricky. The save files aren't in the same place as you installed the actual game.
Instead they will be in Documents. If you're a vista user, find the folder marked with your log-in name, then look for Documents in there, then BioWare, then Mass Effect, there'll be a file called Save. Highlight it an click OK, or just double-click it. You're done.
(For XP users, the Documents folder will be on your Dekstop, or in Computer.)

If you haven't completed the campaign in ME1 and saved the import will not work.

What do you mean by "start-up screen"? The main menu? Because there isn't any "configuration" there.
