Bioware, the text is REALLY small.

The main selling point of any Role-Playing game is it's complex and interesting storyline, characters, background, etc., not how pretty it looks or how many pixels it's developer can fit onto our screens. Sure, it's a nice bit of fluff, but I could really care less how the game looks. Just as long as it plays well and has a deep story. The tiny illegible text of this game renders all that it should be moot, and basically all you're left with is Gears of War with more playable chracters and no online versus mode. That may be an exaggeration a bit, but not by too much.
So until this is fixed, I guess that's what I'll play. If it should never be fixed... well, I'll just sell it back to GameStop and never buy another Bioware product again. Because if you're going to make RPGs with 3/4 of the content inaccessible, you should just stop teasing us and switch to making action games or something.

Pet grammatical peeve.
I think just about everyone in this thread COULD care less about the font used. Most of them care quite a bit.
But yes. The game experience is what matters. Unfortunately, when selecting appropriate responses in conversation takes time and concentration just to work out what's written, that breaks the immersion in their lovingly crafted universe.

I'll think twice before I preorder another bioware game.

I've got a HD TV so the problem isn't so much the small text, but it's the font. Sometimes, the words blend in with the background scene so it's near on impossible to see what the options are for Shep.
Is there a way of changing the font of the text or make it a bit more visible? Maybe making the feather around the text darker or, as so many other people have said, making the text bigger?
As a side note, this game made me laugh out loud at a few key moments. Thanks for adding the Engineers and Dr Chakwas!

For those of you with gigantic HDTVs who are having problems, a) get your eyesight checked, and
(I also have to wonder, if the text is giving people problems, how on earth are they managing to cope with the combat portions -- a good deal of the time I find myself picking off enemies that are so far away that they're smaller than the text...)

It has to do with game devs sitting right on front of their monitors while designing a game failing to acknowledge that most of us console gamers are not sitting in front of a monitor.

You need to get your eyes fixed. I've got a 40" Sony Bravia Full HD LCD just like you and I can read the text just fine. I can stand at the other end of my living room and still read the text. The game was designed for 720p and if you can't read it on an HD display, either your eyes are bad or you screwed up on of your settings.DrGast wrote...

Frankly, this SD vs HD nonsense is getting kinda ridiculous and away from the topic.

I agree
If the text issue will never be fixed, ME2 will be the last bioware game for me too.
Meanwhile this is the last Bioware (and EA) game that I buy at Day One.
For future games, I'll ask first if they are readable and compatible with SDTV, and if not I'll spend my money for something else.
There was a friend of mine with SDTV who wanted to buy ME2, but I had to say him that the game is unreadable on SDTV and to spend money for something else until it's fixed.

I've tried it on both my sd tv and hd tv, while it's better on the hd tv.... whoever was in charge of that area dropped the ball big time or maybe has eye problems to the extent that it looked normal to him/her/them? LOL
Other than that and not being able to backup your game saves on the 360 between the 360's hdd and the 360's memory unit/card (yet you can with the character importer and you can with all ME1 saves, just not ME2 wtf), the game is great.

I can't imagine that Bioware is trying to deliberately antagonize players (they're a company after all), but making the font even more unreadable on normal TVs going from ME1 to ME2 is a strange design decision at the least. It also doesn't throw a very good light on the testing department.

And yes, I have an HDTV and my eyes are checked yearly. I also got to the dentist, vote and pledge allegiance to Queen and Country. Despite all that, the text is still too small.

In the meantime, I'll buy a couple of binoculars. I'll have to play with just one hand, but better than nothing i guess.
OR they could include a slightly bigger font, maybe in bold. But it's like asking for the moon, the stars and the Hubble Space Telescope.

I have a 52" 1080p HDTV, and even I have to agree. Too much of the text is really a little too small compared to ME1. I'm sitting closer to the TV as a result.

The elite comes with a HDMI cable aswell as a component cable/ AV cable. Every Xbox comes with a standard xbox component / AV cable. If you got a HDTV plugging in your component cables and setting the clip on the cable itself to HD, will do the trick. You do not need to buy a whole new cable. just make sure that you select the right settings on your xbox menu, under settings > TV aswell afterwards.
None elite xbox dont have HDMI support anyway.
But would this work for the Core version of the 360? A few of us still use the original.
Sorry for the late reply, I have been mighty busy.
Yes, Both the premium, core, arcade and even the Elite.
(i own a premium from first day and a elite)

Michael Gamble, when the design flaw is so bad that it makes the game nearly unplayable, its a major problem, not one to be put on the backburner. I hope to hell you guys don't do this to SWTOR.
When the problem isn't caused by the game, but by the game buyer, it seems that the problem exists either in 3 options
1) Pebcak
2) The TV
3) Distance between tv and buyer.
and since this problem isnt caused by the game....take your pick

Considering that Star Wars: The Old Republic will be a PC MMORPG, you whining about small/unrealdable text on SD-TVs for that game is asinine.

2) getting my eyes checked will not change the fact that my eyesight is not the best it's ever been. small text discriminates against people who's eyesight is less than stellar.
3) next time save some money on the writers ea and bioware. apparently you don't want the majority of us to read what they wrote for you.
4) it's sad that people begged for the text to be fixed on banjo freakin' kazooie and it was fixed. and we are told about design choices. just say it's a hard fix and we don't know if we can fix it. don't tell us that you intended the majority of us to be unable to read the massive amounts of text in the game because you thought it would be a great design choice. that's a cop-out.
