How am I supposed to enjoy the codex when I can make out half the words WHILE squinting?SDTV gamers Unite! Some bioware offical will have to address this issue as long this thread stays alive.

@Madapaca What your saying is not viable. The majority of the US and Europe do not own a HDTV, but following your line of reason its the fault of the majority that we cant see the text. Why should we suffer in the quality of our games just because Bioware have made an error, do you not think that it is fair that they should cater to the needs of the majority?

I love this game, but the fact that I have to squint to read every little word is infuriating. I want to enjoy this game to it's full potential, and the fact that such a great game can annoy me so much is disheartening. Along with the microscopic font size, the dialogue options are (on occasion) impossible to read. The white/blue words on a white/blue background is such an obvious problem that I'm surprised it's even in the game. If anyone even played the game before release they would have seen that.

It seems like a really small tweak, just add a 'SDTV' option from the options menu to pump up the font size or something. To me and many others, this is a critical and necessary patch. Bioware, please address this problem as soon as possible.

I feel like the HD/SDTV debate is headed in another direction entirely. The point is I put 80+ hours into ME1, read damn near every shred of text based info, and knocked out both books with enough eyesight left over to find my way to the kitchen. I played the first two missions of ME2, and I feel like I may never see again.

I'm sure this just slipped through the cracks, as anyone on the bioware team or involved in testing would have utilized rather competent hardware as far as screens go. We just need to make sure this comes to the attention of those who can make a difference, and hope the fix is relatively simple.

In the mean time I recommend soldering a microscope lens onto your XBL headset, and begin the process of shopping for a seeing eye dog.

I'm glad that I'm not the only one! I have a 40" HDTV and it looks so teeny.

PC web browsing application compatability across different web browsers is not an accurate analogy. That being said, as a Mac user who relies on Safari and Firefox I applaud your company's effort.

Bioware/EA will not prioritize this issue any time soon, if ever at all. You can call the small text a defect, but if that's the case it was an intentional defect.

At some point companies need to stop holding the hands of the sheeple and force them to do things they would otherwise not do. This is why back in 2007 the FCC required that all new TVs be digital, and later that all broadcasts be switched over to digital as well last year. Yes people complained, whined, and moaned, but they eventally dealt with it.

Change is constant, you can't sit and complain that technology is passing you by and expect companies to cater to you forever because you have not been willing to upgrade.

You choose to not upgrade, sadly you pay the price for not doing so by missing out. If that means you can not play Mass Effect 2 the way it was meant to be played, then that's sadly your loss. Videogames and entertainment are luxuries, not a given right. Sorry to be that harsh, but it's the truth.

Bioware/EA are alienating some customers, true. They are however a company with a forward stance towards things. It's not their job to make sure little 17 year old Timmy sitting in his mom and dad's basement playing on a TV built to handle the original NES, can read the text in Mass Effect 2 for the Xbox 360. It is however their job to put out a mature game, running on a "next gen" system, outputting at HD Resolutions. That's what I bought and paid for, I'm sorry that some of you out there didn't.

Comparing the digital conversion to this does not work as last I checked those boxes do not cost $150+ and I recall hearing that the government was giving out coupons or something of the sort for people who needed those boxes.  On top of that it is pretty likely an oversight as recent Bioware/EA games have not had these small text problems, on a final note you really shouldn't say what a company will or will not do unless you work for the company in question.

So it still looks small on a 40-inch HDTV?

That's depressing.

To all those telling us to buy new TVs, quit acting like a bunch of Job friends. Some of us have HDTV and still have difficulty reading the text. In fact some people are running a high end home theater and as such sit back at least 10 feet from the TV for optimal sound and video. Therefore it is even harder to read. So quit telling people to upgrade. If someone has the flu, you can tell them they got it because they didn't take care of themselves, but it still doesn't change the fact they have the flu.

Here's hoping that something can be done in an update that will solve this issue. And to all those trying to hijack the post because they have no problem reading the text, GREAT! go back to playing and quit preaching to the rest of us.

If we could simply get some manner of confirmation from a moderator that this issue has actually been recognized and considered, that would be just grand.

@madapaca:

The analogy holds because we are not talking about a small minority, we are talking about 41% of the US population. This is not a small minority. What makes it a bad business decision is that it alienates nearly half of your market, not simply "some people".

And it is true that companies do sometimes have to make moves that force people to upgrade (like stopping support for old OS's or discontinuing parts), and if that is the case, they make an announcement of it. I do not believe Bioware has made any statement that they are not going to support non-HD televisions for their games, especially since DA:O recently came out and the text reads just fine.

Of course, it would help if, as Thoovoo pointed out, if someone from the company would give some acknowledgment of the issue.

If setting it to widescreen was enough, I might not care quite so much, but as it stands, widescreen doesn't cut it.

No one is going to fix this. They'll 'look in to it' for a couple of weeks/months then say there's nothing they can do.

This is the first 360 game I've had problems reading the text in. I loved ME1 and was really looking forward to ME2, but trying to read the text is giving me a headache.

The small font is the ONLY problem in this game

i have a small sony tv, and i really enjoy me2 since the day i got it(which is yesterday), but seriously guys, the small font is ruining the whole experience

the conversation is much worse than standard, and the codex is just kinda gave up on them

so can you guys please have some patch coming up on dlc?

and i don't have xbox live either, having the patch on the disc would be nice, but please fix the font, or at least sacrify us now for all that is humane's sake to have bigger font the next time around

I vote in agreement. I have a 46" 1080P hdtv and I had to move my chair feet ahead just to read the darned screen. I already wear strong glasses and I'm already in HD and using a large tv. This is silly! The text is just too small.

I dunno... There's no such thing as a perfect game.

You don't need to have Xbox LIVE. Live -only- affects online play. You can still get updates and DLC and everything; you just need an internet cord plugged in.

ok the problem is that i live in silicon valley, so why pay for internet while i can get it for free, and in the air?
see, i'm having a dilema here
so yeah my hope looks bleak
the game is a funfest, i love it in the first hour, but damn it the small text font is annoying!!!:pinched::pinched::pinched::pinched::pinched::(

I don't know anything about internet connections in Silicon Valley, so I don't know how that's a problem. In any case, they are never going to release a patch disc. We'd be lucky for an online update within a month. Anyway, just have some way for the 360 to be connected online.

Beyond that, it's agreed. I stopped playing since I can't enjoy it. Squinting totally breaks the immersion.

i mean llike xbox 360 dlcs on a disc sell at retailers
recents game do that, including Borderlands and my personal favorite, Fallout 3
god how i love the text in fallout, the game itself is fully-packed and has a complex as hell HUD and still managed to pull out decent wording
Bioware, you guys really failed at designing subtitles
did you guys even tested the game?:(

Maybe the only TVs they tested ME2 on were all HDTVs?
