If I could read the text on ME1 I should be able to read it on ME2. Making the text smaller than the original to the point of not being able to see it clearly at a reasonable distance is not a very good upgrade.

I find it small on a larger screen myself. It needs to be bumped up just a little bit, and it'll be just fine. As of now, I have to squint to read the text.

As I posted on the first page, I have an HDTV, 52" in fact, and I run my 360 at full 1080p, and even I am having problems seeing most of the text. I am now having to sit much closer to the TV than I like. (I had no such problem with ME1)

So this is not just an issue for you SD TV viewers. Much of the text is simply too small across the board.

I'm just a little concerned if this will even be something BioWare can fix with a patch, at least on the 360 anyway.

It would be nice for them to at least respond on the topic, though, even if it's to say "sorry, we screwed up, but there's nothing that can be done about it at this point."

There's more to it than just being annoying. ME1 really flowed in it's dialogue and it felt more alive with the totally useless information on races, planets, technology, society, etc. I am sure the same would be true of ME2, maybe even moreso. But it totally breaks the immersion when you have white text against a light background and have to pick your response at random almost, so you end up picking the "Flirt" option when you wanted the "****** off" option.

It's like you're playing one of those games where you pick which cup has the ball under it, except the cups are your dialogue and the balls are in your mouth.

I know that there are many issues with the release but hopefully if we can keep this on the first page someone at Bioware will address the issue soon.

Okay so here is my question. I am playing on a 65" 1080p TV. I don't have any issues with the size of the text, and truthfully don't want it any bigger. Mind you Dead Rising is still ridiculous on my TV. I'm not sure why all of you with HDTV's are having issues with this. I'm near sited, Sit 8ft away on my couch and feel that any bigger text would be to intrusive. How would a patch affect me?

Ideally it would be an option like where you control the brightness of the game.  Have a slider where you can choose the font size (and/or text/background color).

Yes! It's wayyyy too small! I have a 27" SDTV and I sit about 1-2 feet in front of it and I still can't read shhhh...

This is a growing trend with a lot of games but this one pushes it to the extreme, and it sucks Half the time I have to guess what I'm selecting in a convo wheel, and all those boxes that pop up on the right like paragon points, codex updates, journal updates, etc... I can't read either

Please Bioware, fix this, I don't feel I need to upgrade to a $300+ tv to play a $60 game. I do plan on getting a new tv eventually, but not anytime soon.

The game is designed for HDTV's so that is why it is hard to read on a SDTV. I have no problem reading it on my HDTV.

The text is way too small. The game itself is awesome, but I wish there was a way to fix the text size...

I don't know anything about programing, so if someone does please respond, but could the small text be a glitch. Because there are people with hdtvs that don't have a problem and then there's those who do, ontop the people with sdtv.

I have a Samsung LN40B750 connected with HDMI cables and I have no problem at all. My eyes are about 6 feet away from the TV. The game looks gorgeous and the text is crystal clear. Follow the link below if you want to compare your TV to mine to determine for yourself if it's your TV or the game that is the problem.

I don't mean to be rude, but this is exactly the reason I didn't get a 360 until this past Septemeber.  I was waiting until I could afford a HDTV to go with it.  I watched a friend play The Last Remnant and even with my face a foot away from the TV I couldn't read anything.  I believe it was a 32" SDTV.

I agree this text is just too small. I understand that the 360 is designed to have the best experience with an HDTV, but that's not to say it's REQUIRED. It just means that your experience will be more fufilling with an HDTV.

I've stopped playing the game all together, even sitting 3ft away I find it insanely hard to read more than half the text. I wouldn't really care if the game wasn't based so heavily on conversation.

It's fair that we're requesting bioware to "fix this problem" so that we can enjoy the game, but it's unlikely that they will.

Just on a side note to everyone popping in to simply say "upgrade your tv," why are you even posting in this thread? It's a thread adressed to Bioware requesting a solution to a problem that obviously a lot of people are having. We understand that if we had an HDTV the solution might be solved, but to suggest the better solution is for everyone to go spend hundreds of dollars they probably don't have on a new tv just seems naive to me.

Has anyone come across anything if there's going to be a patch or at the very least if they're looking into it?

I did get around to checking the box. HDTV is not listed as a requirement, but merely a capability. ME1 was labeled with exactly the same capability indicator, and Its text size was just swell.

And I still refuse to buy into this "Stepping into the new age with Bioware at the helm theory". It would be an extremely limiting move to invest such extensive resources into a project like Mass Effect, and release a final product that will only function properly for those 360 owners who utilize its HD capacity. Whatever the statistics may be, not all of the owners of a 360/HDTV combo will buy ME2, which severely limits sales.

I guarantee that in the coming years we will begin to see games that are intended only to function with high definition set ups. However, we will all be fully aware of the release of the first game of that generation, especially if that game were ME2, because HDTVs still need a few years before they can be assumed assets of a client population.

Now excuse me while I, a loyal follower of the Mass Effect universe who read every shred of text in ME1, both books, all the DLC despite negative reviews, and willingly paid for the whole lot, goes to unplug a computer monitor from my family office in hopes of being able to experience in some way the game I've eagerly anticipated for years.

This topic has the second most replies of any non-Bioware thread. I think it's about time we got a little recognition.

I just purchased this game and I am severely dissapointed in the quality of text. I dont have some perfect HD tv, and my vision is one level above being blind as it is. I dont need to stare 2 feet away from this game, and unfortunately that means I will simply have to turn it back in.

This hurts me so much, as I have been looking forwad to this game, since I beat the first one...but I cant read the text...I just...dont understand how Bioware could do this.

As an employee of my citys game store, I feel even more disillusioned as now I will be telling every customer and employee Not to get this game unless they have an HD tv, and even then they should rent it first.

IF Bioware, truly is reading this, I would like to inform you, that my store and its customers will know of this before purchase.

I apologize, but this issue Needs to be addressed. Please.

I don't exactly have a high def TV. So when status and mission updates appear in the bottom right I have absolutely no idea what it's saying. The font is too small. Even when I wear my glasses that usually sit on my dashboard for driving and sit less than 6 ft away from the screen, it's still illegible. And when The conversation wheel comes up in front of anything that isn't solid black, that too is unreadable.

C'mon, Bioware. Help a cheap-ass gamer out!

Wrong.  Several of us with HDTVs and HDMI cables are having problems with this ridiculously small text.  And it's not just the size, but the coulour and background mix makes it worse.

Let's stop this stupid HDTV vs SDTV debate, which is moot, and focus (pun intended) on getting Bioware's attention on this.

I do not know if it will do any good, but I did send a message to Michael Gamble asking for him or someone from Bioware to respond to this thread. It may not be a bad idea for others to do the same. Of course, it might be annoying, but the squeaky wheel gets the grease.

Here's hoping...
