Bioware, the text is REALLY small.

I'll have to talk to Casey about this (as any way to address it would have far reaching changes in the game), but please don't expect any decisions or a fix in the near future (as we are supporting a number of issues at this time). This was a design choice, not a bug.
Having said that, when I find out more, I will update this thread. I appreciate everyones patience. You guys are awesome.

I've gotten a number of PMs about this. Messaging me more will not speed up the process. We are looking at the threads, but unless we necessarily have traction on it - we can't post information we dont have.

Thank you for your time, Michael. We don't mean to be a bother, simply hoping there is an easy fix for this. For our eyes' sake

Thank you for a response. Also take this as note for Mass effect 3. Use the same text you used in Mass effect 1 as that was perfectly readable even on SDTV displays. Thank you Bioware and EA.Michael Gamble wrote...

Thank god (and Michael Gamble). All we needed was this confirmation that we were indeed being heard. Carry on noble Bioware. Thou hast imparted hope for a brighter tomorrow, and a codex that offers its bountiful knowledge for a price less steep than that of ocular sacrifice.

For future record, tiny little text is a BAD design decision. Setting aside the "who has (or should have) what television" issue, there are plenty of visually impaired game players out there who need decent sized text.

but shephard's back keeps getting in the way in combat
we will keep an eye out for a patch
but can you please include it on a dlc discs for people who don't have xbox live?(that is in fact one of the reason i chose to buy ME2, and i bet there are a lot of people out there who use SDTV and doesn't not have xbox live)
so if you guys decide to make a dlc, i don't mind u guys squeeze in a small patch, you know, icing on the cake

Also, it's good to see that someone from Bioware knows of this problem. Many thanks, kind sir!
Hopefully we'll get a fix on this before my copy of ME2 gets too much dust on it. I got home from the midnight launch all excited, and ended up giving up on it after 5 min. Tried various options, widescreen, borrowed a friends HDTV, etc. etc., nothing helped.
Help us, Michael Gamble, you're our only hope!

Even when you're not visually impaired, screen fatigue is a major problem. People with great vision generally still have greater difficulty using white text on a pale background, even when it *is* big enough. Another issue is that the text is quite fine. if it was a little fatter, it'd be pretty reasonable. My TV is a CRT, so the gentle fuzziness makes that light text kinda squinty.
An underlay, like on Dragon Age's titles, would make a massive difference. Improving the contrast between the text and the background helps those issues significantly.

BioWare, I am a huge fan of what you do. I think that the stories you tell and the way you tell them are helping shape the next generation of narrative-based games. That's why I have such a hard time believing that a company so well known for quality would ship a game with such a fundamental flaw. I don't think that legible text on a 36" SD TV is too much to ask.
Please make this right. I want to play your game badly. In fact, I can't think of a game that I've looked forward to this much. Ever. And I've been a gamer since the Atari 2600. Sadly, this text issue renders the game unplayable for me.
I'm going to shelve the game for now and play something else, with the highest hope that a fix is coming soon.

Add my name to the list of people who are extremely frustrated with this issue. I absolutely loved ME1 and pre-ordered the Collector's Edition of ME2. I brought it home today and felt like a kid on Christmas as I unboxed all the goodies and basked in their MassEffectyness. Imagine my surprise and disappointment when popped the disc into my 360 and realized that the majority of the game's text was too small to read. It's like my Christmas was canceled.

I'm with this guy.
I, too, have buyed the game yesterday (in Europe it comes out today, but they have broken the day-one:O) with my collector's edition and all.
Seriously:
1) You (Bioware devs) have responded to our complains, and that's good. Thank you for that.
2) You must fix it ASAP! No way you're saying "don't expect anything in the near future", because we-can't-play. That's a major issue! A critical one.
I have payed 60 bucks for the game like everyone else, but we're left wandering and maybe.... maybe... in a distant future we'll be able to enjoy what we've payed for.
You must be kidding.
I want a patch ASAP or my money back from Bioware/EA. I'm good with either.

I'm not overly concerned by it, since i personally don't like to read text in videogames (spoken's usually better, if slower).
what annoyed me, was during the intro I missed the very last line - i'm sure it's nothing important, and it wasn't an issue of fontsize in that case, I just couldn't read it quick enough!

Most of the time the text is unreadable for me. Granted, I don't have an HD TV... part of the problem I have isn't the size of the text, but rather the color used. It would be nice if there were an option to change the colors.

fair comment, but may I suggest you invest in the VGA cable - it isn't the best solution to HD gaming I can tell you that but it's a lot cheaper than a new tv. i do own the VGA cable, but I still prefer to game on the bigger TV screen (29" 4:3) even if it is sacrificing definition.
