I'll throw my hat into the ring on this issue. I have a 27in running at 480p, and I can't read anything at all. I'm sorry but I'm not goin to make my eyes bleeds for this game. If Rare can issue a patch to fix the small text problem within a week or so for Banjo and Kazooie Nuts and bolts ( a game that maybe sold 9 copies) , bioware should have it fixed in no time. Until then I guess I'll go back to MW2.

i love this game and would love it even more if there was a patch to fix the text. i would love to delve deeper into the universe that bioware created but unfortunately i don't own a microscope. for a game that is so story driven it sure seems like a big portion is hidden from most of us. dragon age suffered from this as well, but me2 is definitely worse (as far as the text thing goes).

I'm having significant problems with this as well, i can't read the codex at all, and I can barely guess character skill upgrades by recognising a few keywords. Fantastic game, disappointing oversight.

Agreed, it's too small. Sometimes I just can't read the text.

The packaging should have a disclaimer that the game is unplayable on SD. What a disapponitment

Agree. I've wasted 60 Euros and Bioware doesn't want to do anything "anytime soon".
Should I call my lawyer?

I've got a 51cm SDTV and the text is pretty small.

I can read it because I sit near the TV, but the text should be bigger.

Rare offered an update for Banjo Kazooie Nuts&Bolts, because many complained abut the small text. I hope Bioware does as well.

I played again Mass Effect 1 just to see the differences, and here the text was PERFECT readable on SDTV, the dialogue option are crystal clear, idem for the codex and the other part of the interface, I don't know why Bioware changed the Fonts size and type in Mass Effect 2 instead or re-use the ones of ME1...

What's the advantage to have little text? Even HDTV owners have problems reading the text...

Plus there is plenty of empty space in the interface that could be filled with text, doen't tell me someone think that little text made the interface looks cool...

I don't think the tiny text was a "design choice" at all.

If it was a real design choice, why don't write it on the cover of the game "This game have unreadable text on SDTV".

Now instead we are here crying because we can't play the game, and for a patch that will surely never arrive :(

Why so pessimistic ? The team wasn't fired last week and it's no big deal to change it, so players can choose between the orignal text size and the patched text size.
It takes perhaps one week to change it and then a couple of days until Microsoft puts the patch on XBOX Live.

Alright. You pay for it then?

Thing is, alot of people don't have the money to get a HDTV. It's not a simple matter of "upgrading your TV", I've got bills to pay, food to eat and addictions to feed as well. No way in hell am I gonna be able to afford a HDTV in the next few years. ME2 alone almost ruined me (being a student really does suck sometimes).

As for OT: Yes, the text is way to small for me to read. Makes my eyes and head hurt, and really annoys me. So, here's hoping Bioware actually addresses this issue, as it seems not only us SDTV users have an issue with it.

Upgrade your TV.

Buying an HDTV just because Bioware used this tiny text (for no reason at all) is the most stupid thing I can think of right now.

It takes perhaps one week to change it and then a couple of days until Microsoft puts the patch on XBOX Live.

They replyed before and said "expect nothing in the near future". So we can't play ME2 in the near future.
You say "don't be pessimistic"? I'm not pessimistic. I'm ANGRY!

And I want to be able to play OR my money back!

I have the same Trouble when doing the Text Hacks on the Pads or whatever they are. I just look at the colours and I get trouble on Objective Writing for the Mission Goals. I need to rely on Subtitles :l

Well, I don't need to upgrade my telly since is a 56" Cinema 21:9, the text is readable... but I must admit is very small compared with ME1 and especially with DAO, which looks like road signs.

I agree that is not a matter of getting a better telly, the text should be readable at any SDTV size (well, not 10" B&W) and should be fixed.

As if buying an HDTV only benefits your ME2 experience. Come on, it's been ages since these TVs became affordable.

This is a load of crap. I play on a 26" SDTV, and before the game came out, I noticed a lot of people going "LOLOLOL U GUYZ NEED TO UPGRADE UR TVS" and saying it was unreadable on SD televisions. To check this, I re-encoded the gameplay demo vids at 576i and played them on my system, as I was worried ever since the unreadable Dead Rising text and thought I may need to use my VGA cable for playing it. I could read everything fine, it's the same size as Mass Effect 1 text.

I expect on any TV smaller than 26" it may be problematic but bottom line - if you can read ME1 text, you can read ME2 text.

In theory it's simple to address this issues, but the statement  "design choice" and "don't expect anything in near future because we are working on other critical issues", leave me with little hope that bioware will ever correct this issue.

If this is not a critical issue...

Hope I'm wrong, but I know how these things go, before you made the purchase they are all nice, after you make the purchase they simply don't care.

WRONG, I just played Mass Effect 1 yesterday, and the FONT is much bigger and perfectly readable in all the interface, dialog, codex, menu etc.

I play on a 32" SDTV and the text is unreadable, and I see on this forum people who had the same problem with even  36" SD.

They changed font type and size, making it thinner and smaller, that's why ME2 is unreadable on SDTV.
If even HDTV owners are having problems reading text...

This is a critical issue not just some random bug, and it prevent people from playing the game.
I have the game from 3 days, and still I can't play it because of the text.

The text is fine. Yes, the game is formatted to be viewed in HD. That's the paradigm shift that's happening these days. The only people complaining are the same ones who complained when VHS went to DVD. I can't even play on a SD tv anymore...

I don't believe the text in DAO is as small. I didn't have nearly as much trouble playing it.

Also most of the smallest text in ME2 is in the codex and mission complete screens etc. I think the dialogue wheel is a little bigger, so the text interferes with graphics arguement doesn't really work.

I'm not complaining about the dialogue wheel. I am complaining about everything else. Would it be so hard to add a patch to darken the background to a light grey behind all of the little boxes that pop up next to you that say collect codex or how to play the game? ITs the little boxes that give us the whole basis for playing the game that are making it hard for us. I would like to play the game but white text on a light grey background is way too difficult and an eyestrain. the boxes are beautifully designed but if we can't read it then we can't play. We aren't asking them to change the game design, just to help us be able to read it.

The text looks too small on an HDTV, too. Except you are sitting in front of your HDTV.

The XBOX 360 is four years old, seems that Bioware thinks the console is as outdated as SDTVs.

The game is formatted to be viewed on a computer monitor.

It is true that things are moving towards being more HD friendly, however, this does not mean that SD is dead. If the 59% HD adoption rate is true, that means 41% still have and use SD. I still contend that this is too large of a percentage to wholly ignore. On top of which, there have been a number of people commenting that they ALSO cannot read the text on their HD televisions. This is means that is not simply an SD issue.
