Ugh, they could at least close the plot thread they bloody well opened before writing the Warden off. I would be perfectly okay with this if they didn't leave a big question like 'can the calling be cured' hanging over her head, and now it seems they plan on handwaving the entire thing.

All I can hope is they'll at least stop bringing back every single character my Warden was close to so this riding off into the sunset ending isnt' completely moot

Don't think we're going to get anywhere with each other here though. :)

Maybe you're right.

In any case, I LIKE some of these choices. So fundamentally, I'm still a fan. And you're a fan. So we have that much in common. But I like these choices enough that I'll brainstorm about their implications. It bums me out if you're not as excited about it. :) That you'd prefer moving on. You sound like someone who'd appreciate more drama and consequences, but you're concerned about how difficult it all is..? I just don't think we should worry about that too much.

You know what would be great? Have the Warden return randomly as a Ghoul without any particular explanation in a minor quest for those that had him survive Origins. That'll put an end to his character for good, and ruffle some feathers. Muahahaha!

Have the Warden share a camp with Ruck, if you saved him.

Maybe they became lovers.. doesn't even care about the old group. That'll solve everything!

Or if you didn't, have the Warden get murder-knifed by a younger Warden who decides to mercy kill them... because irony?

The sheer number of possible Warden histories and circumstances are too diverse to sensibly bring back the Warden.

I am happy to head-canon the later days of my warden (s)

The only problem interfering with that is if Bioware adds new developments concerning the Warden in future releases.

Dragon Age 2 stating the Warden had disappeared would be easy to fit into my head-canon but there was danger that a later release may explain the disappearance contradicting my head-canon

The Warden is off doing Warden-y things, and I'm cool with that.

Good. Hawke's appearance was handled horribly and hardly made any sense.

Oh my god, this again?Seriously, ya'll need to let it go.

The only way this will ever be put to rest is if they write something short, and conclusive that kills off the warden.

'The Hero of Feralden found an anceint elvhen script about reversing something tainted. However, he/she would not live to see it come to fruition, as they were stomped on by a dragon-The End'

This is one of the reasons why I don't want the warden back... they already messed up my favorite character. So yeah, no more comebacks from previous heroes as NPCs.

I'm still trying to forget DAI Hawke, she was a broody mess, screaming "death to bloodmages and wardens". Ugh.

Not surprising. It seems like Bioware have been trying their hardest to bury Origins and everything to do with it for some time.

Yeah, my inquisitor seemed to take stuff pretty lightly even though I tried to play him pretty hardcore. My new warden seems way more invested.

What annoys me is at least half the people who never want to see the warden again, don't feel that way because  they don't love thier wardens, they're afraid bioware will screw it up so they'd rather not play it.

I mean I get it, but if people don't believe bioware can make a quality game, why are any of us here?

Now this is a strawman right here. Believing Bioware can make a quality game and believing they can successfully incorporate the Warden are two different things. It wouldn't be the first time a good writer handled a story line badly.

Part of it is that it just isn't feasible.

Part of it is I just don't think there's any story there.

Part is that the Warden already got an ending. I'd prefer a new story. I don't want them to just retread old ground.

Part is that I find the warden to be the most boring protagonist out of any game they have created.

Only character I want to see back is the Inquisitor, and that's just because I think their story hasn't had a proper ending.

I'm okay with the HoF being a background thing. I wouldn't mind playing as Hawke or the Inquisitor again. Next game will be a new protagonist anyways.

A good hero in stories leaves and stays in the background once they make big, or dies. The other alternative is make sure they never make big while being a hero in the background. This is something none of them could do, since they all did a bit of an underdog story. They played their part. Sheppard was able to keep going because no matter what they did, people never fully gave out laurels. That is why there was a setback at the beginning of the other 2 games where Sheppard was backed into a corner again and thus remained a relevant hero.

But the whole point was getting where they are. Hero of Fereldan could land on another continent, a stranger in a strange land, or be caught in something so terrible they aren't the hero of Fereldan any more, but really, they had a goal and achieved it. Stop the Blight. It got stopped. Sheppard had one goal, save the galaxy from the Reapers, which didn't happen until the end of the 3rd game. Also, if it could have happened, it should have been dragon age 2. Once Hawke came into the picture, the Warden couldn't be the hero again.

Fair enough. I see the stories myself.

As for boring, I'm not exactly the biggest fan either. It's more about all the elements to me. Ali/Morrigan/Warden, Inquisitor, etc..

All the outrage about the problems with Hawke's portrayal in DAI would be multiplied with an attempt to portray the Warden.

Voice acting would just be the first hurdle in a long list of reasons they would never be able to please the majority of the fan base.

Well they already did everything that could possibly ****** their fans. I already feel like a punching bag for Bioware so even if they made my warden become a sex slave pole dancer for the next archdemon and then suicide after killing the LI because couldn't resist the archdemon orders, I'm ok with that. Playing Inquisition means nothing matters anymore, game is dead and gone along with all hopes fo something good, hopes were repositioned to games like Sword Coast, so might as well enjoy seeing my old warden again even if it is for mercy killing (so sad I didn't do it before Thedas became Ivalice with Druffalos roaming the land).

I understand it is not like that for other people but my main point is: They absolutely don't care about pleasing the majority of fanbase. If the majority of the fan base loved Origins why change so much? The real reason they won't bring the warden back is the same they changed the game so much, they want an expanded fanbase, even if it means most of the old one is lost. I'm not paranoid at all they said they are after the generation that had Skyrim as their first experience in RPGs so, well, if you still want to believe they really care about old fans, ok, but they made it pretty clear the new ones are more important when they made some of their statements regarding DAI development.

I can honestly say that I just don't get the popular obsession with seeing the Warden again.

"The Warden" was not a character beyond the player's own personal interpretation of him/her. That was the whole point of a silent protagonist. The playable character in Origins was an utterly blank canvas for player to project their own character on to. "The Warden" is a plank of wood and it's player choices and imaginations that brought the character to life for them and them alone.

Karma-Plank-is-watching-you-ed-edd-and-e

So, while I might have interpreted my Warden as a lone wolf type Dalish hunter with a dry sense of humor and a crippling fear of heights. There is simply no way that Bioware could ever, ever bring 'my' Warden back to the screen in a satisfying way. The character will never live up to what players have interpreted their own wardens to be and if Bioware were to be 'accurate' with the character the Warden would be a dumb mute who just stares creepily into your soul whenever you try to talk to her/him.

I'm with Weekes on this one. The Warden's story is done. Bringing the 'character' back is both pointless as well as impossible to pull off.
