Actually, there's a middle option. In NWN, the PC had a custom name that did appear in dialogue, even when the NPC was voiced.
What they did is have the subtitle use the name, with the voiced line avoiding it. The first example in the game has Aribeth speaking "Welcome to you," while the subtitle reads "Welcome, %CHARNAME%."
That worked well, I think.A fine compromise.
After your first booty call with romance she still calls you Lord Inquisitor or by your last Name/ Plus a feature I call Chronicles (simalar to Keep)

A similar thing is done in World of Warcraft. In text you will see your specific name (or race or class, per circumstance), but the audio will be a neutral term like "hero," "champion," or other such term. I think this works out well.
That said, you can't do that with these games. These are spoken dialog based games and the bulk of the text is in codex entries, and now with added war table missions in DAI. The PC name thing is already done in the codex.

Or they could simply change those lines to use petnames like "Love" or "Sweetheart" or whatever.
EDIT: The romance-specific ones, that is. In context I think it makes sense for LIs to still call the Quiz "Inquisitor," if we're going with the "reinforcing the image for the rabble" thing.
This, they did this in DAO already.
