I have completed the prologue of Mass Effect 2 with no problems, but as soon as the game proper starts, I am experiencing a devestating shutdown crash that only occurs while ME2 is running.  This crash does not occur in any other game, or while no game is running.  I have confirmed that it is not being caused by overheating, and I exceed the recommended specifications for running the game.   I have also experimented with different levels of antialiasing and various other graphics settings from extremely low to extremely high but nothing appears to be solving the issue.

I have done both a Google search and a search of these forums to the best of my ability, and I have noticed that I am not the only one experiencing this error, however, there does not seem to be, so far as I could find, a satisfactory explanation or fix for this devestating crash.  I have noticed that it is not connected to any activity in the game itself, but does happen almost predictably after five minutes.  As mentioned, it does not occur at all in any form during the prologue, and as far as I can tell, sitting at the title screen also does not cause the problem to occur.

Having ruled out just about everything else, I am left wondering if this is a bug in the game itself.  I am confident if it is that it will be resolved, but I post in the hopes that if someone has a resolution to this problem that they will share it with me, or at the very least, that the developers will be made aware of the problem and attempt to correct it.

OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit
Video: Radeon HD 4650
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo Wolfdale 3.06 gHz
RAM: 4 GB

Having same issue..pc just shuts completely off if the game is running. Just installled the patch so I will see what happens. Anyone found a reason or solution for this?

Os: win xp
vid: nvidia 9800
CPU: AMD 3 Core
Ram: 2gig

I experience this problem exactly. I got to the conversation with the new squadmate (forget his name, the black guy) but my computer shuts down completely around then. My computer far exceeds the recommended settings. I'm running it on Steam. Please help!
