The Mass Effect Love Interests are far better, but a lot of that has to do with having three games to develop.

Leliana and Liara for me, but I agree with this. A central appearance in a one-off game doesn't really have a fair chance at competing with characters that feature in a trilogy - especially when you can start a romance with a character in the first game and then watch it develop throughout the sequels. For the same reason bonds of friendship and the general feel of the team/crew have never been as strong in DA as they are in ME. One game just isn't enough to convey the same sense of "man, the **** we've seen".

I think this kind of hit home with me during a scene with Garrus early on in ME3. You reflect upon how both of you have ended up in positions of authority and wonder whatever happened to the old days - 'rogue spectre and c-sec agent running and gunning outside the lines, making it up as we went along', as Garrus puts it. There's just nothing equivalent to it in DA as you get cut off from your characters so soon.

DAO: Leliana > Zevran > Alistair > Morrigan (but I really like them all)

DA2: Isabela > Fenris > Merrill

DAI: Dorian

ME: Kaidan > Ashley > Liara in that order but if I ever replay the ME trilogy, it will be with no romance. I realized I appreciate their characters more without romancing them whereas I will always find a love interest for my Wardens and Hawkes.

If there has to be one: Leliana wins.

No one all bioware romances for me are weak at least that starting on dao only bioware romance for me that was good for me was Jaheira because romance was realistic and was about both li and pc not just pretty much about Li and their past.

Pretty much since bg 2 all bioware romances can be sump up by talk to li about past do their quest and go to the bed with them.

In ME I liked Kaidan best, but overall it's Alistair. He'll always have a special place in my heart

It would be very difficult for me to choose between female DA LIs. It's Leliana, Isabela, Cass or Josie for me. I think the best for me is Leliana because I'm a sucker for bards and because Corinne Kempa's work is my favourite one among the outstanding VA in the series. But I'm easy prey for sexy pirates with a sense of humour and I haven't got any defence against Isabela's charms. Josephine's love story seemed an old classic film romance and truly loved it, they even put a swashbuckling duel in there! Sometimes I expected Miklos Rozsa's music or some other old fashioned orchestral one in the background for romance scenes with Josie. And Cass was a refreshing experience for a videogame romance, because her romance seemed a legit love story with a mature woman, not a young or teenage girl.

I'm not sure about ME either. Liara, Miranda and Tali had great love stories for me, though I think I prefer Tali as a friend or a little sister and not as a lover because she seems too young for most of my Shepards. I prefer DA romances, partly because I'm more a fantasy fan than a sci fi one, and partly because my canon Shepard was with Miranda in ME2 and the ME3 romance content for Miranda was a bit disappointing for me. For me the most satisfactory romantic content in ME3 was the thing between Tali and Garrus.

I have not a very well formed opinion for the boys, but I'd say Alistair or Solas love stories seem to be interesting, well related to the plot and with an interesting potential for drama. And I think Garrus is the winner here, hands down, but maybe I'm biased because Garrus is my favourite male npc in the whole ME world. No Shepard without Vakarian.

DA2 Anders is the only BW romance option that got me truly emotionally involved. His friendmance arc made the game for me.

Dorian is nice, but I feel something is lacking. Maybe it's the poor pacing.

I'd like to try Solas, but I haven't yet managed to force myself to play an elf (eeewww).

Garrus was... ok, I guess. I like his character, but never felt very involved in the romance. The cuddling animations were cringe-worthy. (Besides, the only ME characters I actually wanted to romance are inaccessible - Zaeed, Legion or Javik. Though I guess I can at least tap the last one.)

Not a great fan of ME LIs, but If I have to choose one that would be Garrus. It feels ...natural? I don't know how to explain it, it's like friendship turning into something deeper. And Garrus is the perfect companion, good friend, great lover (I love dancing) and ...reach.  Kaidan is hot and dat voice  ... but I experienced his romance as a male and it lacks something, I can't tell what but it felt empty, like "Hey, hello, soo... sinlge? Me too, let's be lovers".

In Da I can choose many. Alistair and Morrigan are the best, I felt a connection with them, with both of them (despite their differences). In DAII Anders had that DRAMA vibe that made the romance more interesting. Isabela is a great character too. In DA:I I can say Solas (the only reason I have to play as a female elf), Dorian (I LOVE this guy) and Cassandra.

ME: Liara
DA: Sera

Sigh, this was hard... had to choose between Leliana, Izzy and Sera but i just adore Sera's personality and craziness and beauty...
ME wasn't hard since lesbian players didn't have many to romance and Liara is always top.

So between Liara and Sera....

Liara. I can't explain why but she's so deep in my heart and she's just so special. Also because I just love asari more than elves. :P

Do you know who you would pick?

Morrigan. There is no contest. Solas and Alistair if my character is female.

Whoever I'm playing, DA wins. Miranda would be on the list but I hated her character development in ME3, so I fell out of love.

ME: Garrus
DAO: Zevran
DA2: Fenris
DAI: reserving judgment. Going with Solas. Not done with the game yet.

DA: Zev wins over Fenris (but I have to mention the sheer passion in Fenris' romance was awesome)

Now between Garrus and Zevran... Ugghhhh.. I can't choose. But if I really must, I'd pick Garrus. But only by a nanometer.

1)Isabela wins out on top. While Da2 has flaws issy is one of the reasons i still really enjoy the game.

2) Miranda in 2nd place, Me2's my favourite game of recent times and Miranda is the icing on the cake. if her writing had of been decent in ME3 i might even have elevated her further.

3) Hardened Leliana. Once i found out in Origins it was possible to harden her i was very happy.

ME1 and DAI were pretty barren in terms of interest in the LI's. Romanced Cassandra but didn't find it particularly impressive.

Tali for a male protagonist, Garrus for a female protagonist.

It's no contest. The ME love interests had three games of character development.

Mass Effect: Miranda

Dragon Age: ... Leliana or Cassandra. Don't like any of the DA:2 romances, except for Tallis (who isn't an LI).

I love these threads because it's a reminder that whenever someone uses the words "obviously", "clearly", "objectively", etc. in regard to romance content, they are most likely wrong.  The posts in three pages are all over the place.  One general trend, however, is that very few people have mixed gender answers.  Most people are comparing males/females in one game to the same gender in the other, despite many people saying that they play both male and female PCs.

I play both male and female PCs, but romance almost exclusively males, so those are the ones I can compare. Also, obviously, my romance content preferences are mine alone. ;)

I found it very hard to choose in Mass Effect. The two I liked the most were Miranda and Tali.

In DA it was not that hard: Morrigan in DAO and Isabela in DA2.

Miranda wins

Dragon Age: Morrigan, Merrill close second.

Mass Effect: Liara, and with a slight margin. Tali is soooo close second, had she been available in the first game it could have gone other way around.

No winners though.

Dragon Age: Varric doesn't want you
Mass Effect: Mordin doesn't want you

It's a tie. But at least in Mass Effect you can ship Mordin with Kirrahe   so you can imagine that's best for him. Meanwhile in Thedas... Can't we somehow set up Varric together with Dagna? At least try it?

As for canon, Iron Bull is fun and sweet, though male Shepard and Kaidan make a fine story. (Kaidan doesn't want you in ME 1 & 2. ... I guess I appreciate characters who interact with you long enough without getting flirty.) If something benefits from direct sequels with same protagonist it's romances and friendships. Impact tends to be great that way.

I guess after all Dragon Age might win for lacking ninjamances. (I still don't get how my Shepard got so close with Liara during ME1. I had already overwritten the old save files which could had saved the playthrough, because I never suspected anything before they suddenly were in relationship.) I don't remember seeing warden, Hawke or inquisitor getting mushy with a team member without my consent, and pushy flirting persons can be pushed away without feeling like you leaded them on, like might have happened to careless/too caring paragon Shepards. If you ever need to snap at Anders, he deserves it, so I'm cool with turning him down anytime.

One general trend, however, is that very few people have mixed gender answers.  Most people are comparing males/females in one game to the same gender in the other, despite many people saying that they play both male and female PCs.

Haha, yes so it seems to be. I play all kinds of romances, depending on their and my characters' personalities, but dude teams tend to be my favorites. Times when they aren't just never are as interesting topic to discuss as the favorite ones, of course.
