Assuming you count it as a game and not an expansion pack to Shadowrun Returns, I would call it my GOTY for 2014. One of the best RPGs I've played in a while.
and Hong Kong is the first thing I've ever backed on Kickstarter now.

Read some good things on a NWN forum; looking for a price drop at GOG.
I've seen it in the mix for the insomnia promo they're doing right now.
Not sure if it'll show up again or not.

Pretty sure the insomnia promo's are done. But hey, it's gog, There's aught to be another sale soon
(Spring sale). YOu'll find it there.
I also loved the game. I think it has a very unique atmosphere, the gameplay is well done and the story is amusing too. Looking forward to Hong Kong

I really enjoyed Dragonfall, and OP is correct that the story and companion interaction has a very BioWare-like feel to it, I am eagerly awaiting Hong Kong.

I still haven't found the time to play the Director's Cut, but the first version was pretty great already and the DC seems to have improved it even further. I liked the first Shadowrun Returns campaign as well, mostly due to it being the first (Shadowrun-ish) Shadowrun game in a lot (!) of years and dealing with a lot of fun SR lore. But Dragonfall was just all around better.
I backed Returns when it was on Kickstarter, and decided to back Hong Kong as well in the last minute. I
Shadowrun!

So the positive buzz here makes me happy. :3 Definitely curious to see how Hong Kong fairs, even if I can't back it this time.

Thats because Bioware doesn't have hardly any reactivity. What kind of changes are in the directors cut? I seem to recall that the original didn't have manual saves? Is that right?

The added another layer of complexity to the combat system, more story content and more abilities. It is amazing.

What about the saves, is it still autosaves only?

I'm unsure what you're talking about. I played through both Dead Man's Switch and Dragonfall last year and was able to save whenever I pleased, I can't see why they would've removed this from the standalone Director's Cut.

If i'm interested in the game, should I get the previous titles? What are the previous titles? (Or maybe just wait for Pillars of Eternity)

Deadman switch was checkponit based when it first came out

Yeah the checkpoint saves were exactly why I never did finish DMS personally. Stuff would always come up before I hit a checkpoint. Now that they have the save whenever aspect put in, I'll probably give it another go. Dragonfall first though.

Oh. For some reason I thought it didn't have manual saves. Thanks.

I need to get around to finishing it.
I'm not sure I see the comparison to BioWare's games, though. I've heard people mention the reactivity of it, but unless all of that happens in the last couple of chapters, it actually seems like my choices have had very little impact beyond a handful of cosmetic effects.

They give a greater selection of options to succeed in a mission, but outside of the near-end stuff, I wouldn't expect much in terms of C&C.I've heard people mention the reactivity of it, but unless all of that happens in the last couple of chapters, it actually seems like my choices have had very little impact beyond a handful of cosmetic effects.

Reactivity in the sense of being able to use character traits to solve problems. Even something as simple as "Decking 5 : I can hack it null sweat. " It is implemented in such a way that it is not an "I win" button but only to give the player a slight advantage. I have have multiple playthroughs because if this

Oh, I understand.
I have had great cause to regret selecting "Academic" as my etiquette in both Shadowrun games. In the first one, it was worth a small amount of credits in one dialogue choice, and in Dragonfall, it gave me a hint about what a file was one scene before I had the thing translated and found it what it was, anyway.
When will I learn to take Security or Corporate every time (those two have multiple uses in both games.)
