During Act of Mercy quest (Act 1), why Hawke acts like s/he doesn't know Ser Thrask? Also, how can s/he doesn't know who is Meredith or what are phylacteries? S/he has already met Ser Thrask before (condition to Act of Mercy begins). It´s kinda impossible that s/he hasn't heard about Meredith and her/his father probably would had taught her/him about phylacteries beforehand. I roleplayed the situation thinking that my sarcastic Hawke was playing dumb, like in a sort of a silly "spy act" in order to stay undercover. (Don't know if that topic has already discussed before.)

It is possible to avoid talking with Thrask. If you go to Feynriel's father Vincento with a mage in the party (or Hawke is a mage), you get the special option to persuade him and reveal Samson's involvement. Then you can skip Thrask, unless you want to boost [dis]approval from the companions.

But if you indeed talked to Thrask before (instead of Vincento), isn't it weird Hawke not recognizing him afterwards?

It's an option for those who didn't talk to him. You don't have to take it.

DA2 is rife with these issues, unfortunately.

Another fun outcome that results in this quest after completion is Alain in the Gallows claiming that Ser Karras "visits" him in his quarters ... even if you killed Ser Karras. Then again, with all the necromancy Decimus got up to, I suppose anything is possible.

In my experience, this only works if Hawke is a mage.  Tried doing this on my current playthrough with rogue!Hawke and Merrill in the party and I'm pretty sure I didn't get the special option.

With Bethany it certainly works.

Ah, maybe that was the ticket then.  Thanks.

Regardless, I tried the "who are you" like with my purple mage!Hawke at one point and Thrask assumed I was being sarcastic.  (Though I was also blackmailing him about his daughter on that run, so he knew I knew who he was.)
