maybe its only me who think so.. but i have the feeling that..... the people wanna have every side quest as own epic bombastic action firework with the content for a own action movie with sylvester stallone or arnold schwarzenegger.

and if the quests are otherwise (like they are)  then all think that they are dull .. meaningless ..and boring.

i think  that people think that its the same with the large area world from dai... if there is no epic action with every step you make then it is dull and  waste content or aimless wandering.

sad....

You couldn't be more wrong. Which is kinda sad indeed.

First, a lot of people want action, but that is why DAI is the way it is - a hybrid between action RPG and action adventure (with some form of "tactical element" so it could be used in advertising).

Second, there is nothing wrong with wanting a meaningful content, interesting quests, decisions. BioWare isn't a studio famous for their sidequests, but they almost always were able to incorporate them in the game in such a way they didn't feel like a chore to complete, you often did them together with the main story. And when you got a nice cutscene or an interesting decision at the end of it (or in the case of DAO a mention in the epilogue or in the case of ME a cameo from certain characters in the next game) that quest suddenly got some level of meaning. The majority of quests in DAI has none. They are in the game only for the reason of accumulating the resource power, so you could progress the main story.

And literally nobody in here wanted the lifeless open world zones filled with bombastic action on every meter, I really don't know where you got this from :D Drugs? Mushrooms? Voices told you it was so? God, I hope you were just trolling :D

Whether you are trolling or not, let me clarify, that we only want some actual content rather than just picking up herbs, killing respawning hyenas / bears, doing side quests starting from notes and ending as soon as you finish their FedEx-style objective in the middle of nowhere or picking up shards and other useless collectibles (that are in the game only because Ubisoft is putting tons of them in their every open world game and they sell like crazy). Were there ever complains about not enough content in TES open world games (in Skyrim for example, the game BW were influenced by)? Not really, those worlds felt alive to some degree. And if you got bored, you could mod the crap out of them.

well jeffry as long more player think the same like this one....

quote regan_cousland

No, we didn't literally have to fetch dozens of rat tails in Inquisition, but the quests we did get -- planting flags, delivering items, collecting shards, clearing out random groups of bandits, finding keys, etc., felt just as pointless as MMO quests because they were completely disconnected from the story -- and even when they were relevant to the story, they required far too much travelling for far too little reward.

quote end.

we mustn't talk about all.

'let me be sarcastic'

its a shame that we didn't get for every breath we take and for every step we make into the large world of this game a big reward.

every non rewarded  step is senseless and one too much .

'sarcastic off'

its all only about ingame rewards....

i must be wrong to think that to have fun is the best reward.

quote jeffry:

i remind you because of your words soon as regan _cousland talk again about that the fetch quests should be more...meaningful and more epic like the main story. but anyways  its all only about rewards.

Yeah, I know how Regan_Cousland feels about this game and I agree with her/him. Yes, the reward part is important. But it doesn't have to be a reward in the form of awesome loot, gold, more XP, etc. The reward of cutscene, one extra decision, heck even a line of dialogue works just as well and many times even better. That is what I and many others are missing in the majority of DAI's sidequests. A sense of actually doing something worthwhile.

epic cutscenes as well and many boombastic extra decisions

this is exactly the same what i was writing about above.

iam sure we get that its called then main storyline from da 4

how  was that again ?

And there is where you are wrong, once again :) A simple cutscene, extra decision or one line of dialogue is not the same as a bombastic action movie. Do you remember BG2, KotOR, DAO, ME1-3, DA2, heck even SWTOR? Were their side quests' endings bombastic action movies? No, but their side quests offered something DAI's do not. Fun + reward + sense of doing something worthwhile at the same time, even when in reality they were not that very interesting or clever. That was shown in DAI where you took the only thing that made them interesting away and you were left with almost nothing.

You can keep quoting me, but nowhere I have stated anybody wants a bombastic action movie, nor have I contradicted myself. You are twisting my arguments and I don't really like that in a discussion. So read my post more carefuly this time.

If that was true, everyone would act like DA2 was the best Dragon Age series and hate on DAO all day, But the fact that DAO is the most popular and beloved game in the series kinda proves you wrong, OP.

One thing is a joke and another thing is twisting someone's arguments. If not seeing the distinction between those two is your best defense, then let me tell you, it is not a strong one.

You keep quoting me on the same thing again and again, yet you didn't come up with anything to say about the core of my posts. I can only guess why - because you don't have a counter-argument against a legitimate wish for a meaningful content in a game where there is almost none. If you enjoy chore and FedEx quest, fine, each to his own, but the fact remains that those quests are pathetic :)

Or you are trolling and waiting for someone to get worked up over your posts, but in that case you failed as a troll and should try harder next time.

Either way, I am still waiting for an actual counter-argument, but I won't hold by breath.

ok .. only to get you right... you mean that da2 looks like the same what i was writing about above ? but the fact that dao wasn't the same like da2 maked dao to the beloved game?

if so.... why wanna many players that dai become the same like da2?

This is painful to watch, really. Its like someone is willingly drowning themselves in their own sewer, and the heavy meds they are on makes them oblivious to it all.

I don't need stuff to blow up. I want my companions to have an opinion. I'd like some dialog, maybe some story with an interesting twist.

I don't need to play a game to deliver one object somewhere else. That isn't fun.

I mean find 48 copies of Varrick's book? How is that even fun? This is a series that used to make jokes in conversations about fetch quests in other games.

The fact a human being programmed stuff like that and actually thought "Players will love this" suggests to me he's in the wrong line of work.

I don't want a game to to waste my time. I don't want chores to do. I want a solid story, some action, some drama, great characters. I don't want to be bored like I was in the hinterlands....

Durengo, I'm sorry, but you completely -- and I mean completely -- misinterpreted my comments.

I'm the last person here who wants more over-the-top action. I just want a teeny bit of story and dialogue so that I have a reason to care about the quest I'm doing. The word "reward" doesn't always mean gold or loot, and it certainly doesn't mean Michael Bay-like magical explosions.

I'd go into more detail, but Jeffry explained my viewpoint perfectly well.

All I can say is from watching the PoE Pax twitch stream, that's what I'm talking about. An RPG that gives the player options on how to deal with different things.

It's not an action game, more tactical.

I don't expect that kind of interactivity in a AAA game of course because graphics are king or some such. Bring on PoE I guess, which has pretty good VFX as well so win win. Even has a Strong hold which can be upgraded and have an actual affect in game Oh my!

Many just want Inqusition to have the same tactical system as DA2. I don't think they want Inqusition to be the same as DA2. Origins seems to be the favorite on these forums.

no  i got you right.

what do you think happened as i maked the quest in skyrim 'find the bow in  the cave for npc xyz' in the large  world area.?

what do you think happened as i found the bow .. as i gaved the bow back ?

a cutscene ? a big dialog? a epic music theme? or even a little normal music theme?did appeard a angel choir?

nothing happened! ....

and it was the same with so many other fetch quests in skyrim.it was the same with the fetch quests in gothic.and even in baldurs gate .i know many more rpg s like nwn  like drakensang and so on and so on. they all have fetch quests where nothing  happens if you make them.

your reward is xp .. and fun  and sometimes a item.

and now ? where is the problem ?

maybe you are spoilt because of dao .. but not every  little fetch and sidequest must looks like a own cinema movie.

not every quest dialog must be a novel.not every sidequest dialog must be something special with a mystical touch .

if you dont  feel prompted to make a fetch sidequest in dai because a npc tells you to find the ring from her husband who lost it .. and died  soon after that happens... and that she wanna have the ring back because she wanna have something to remember.

then i have no clue what to hell must be done to make you feel prompted.

I don't need a bunch of action for sidequests.. if I'm understanding right.

I liked how DA2 already did sidequests. No more, no less. All of them had a kind of cinematic/dialogue presentation and some good storylines.

In that game though, it's hard to say what's a sidequest or not. Some quests start off small. Like the First Sacrifice has you investigate that dude's wife. Or Unbidden Rescue has you rescue Shamus.. but they develop into big plots later.

yes because all those people who are raging because of dumbing down their favourite franchise, feeding players text based choice instead of full-blown, complex quest - wartable, taking away the control over characters created by themselves, the story, and the combat from their hands, replacing all that with more action-y feel and "kill 10 monsters with bazooka" quests are clearly fans of Sylvester Stallone/Arnold Schwarzenegger action movies

Personally I would rather have stories with emotional impact rather than action. But I think to do that you need to take risks. You need to put the player in difficult situations with choices that have real consequences and emotional impact. Unfortunately Bioware lack the balls for that. They play everything safe and the result is a sterile boring story with the impact of a lace handkerchief.

have you ever played The Secret World? It's an MMO and they still managed to do conversation animation for nearly every quest in game. Sure there are few "found note" quests, but a) when you find these notes, it actually make sense, B) they give a lot of effort for the rest of the quests and it payed off. In DAI writers were too lousy (or they didn't payed them enough) and most of the quests are just...
