Let me put it like this: Each side-quest in Origins was a story. Some of them very short and poor stories like the ones in Lothering and other fetch-quests but they were few among lots of interesting quests. Inquisition is a giant Chantry Board.
Most side-quests in Origins had a story, you met the characters, had the chance to talk to them, go in depth with what was happening, choose what to do and depending on the course of action you had different rewards, reactions and sometimes even more like unlocking other quests.
I have to go meet this spirit of the forest you know? Well at least the bald says... werewolfs says other things. Anyway, I met this tree, poet tree, poetree, yeah I know... and a mad man, still didn't decide what to do about the acorn. Oh a talking gem, helpful one, should I keep it to put it on a crown when I become queen? Or shouldn't I? A boy in the closet, I guess his sister can help him staying out of the closet... should I take his sword? It is not like he is going to use it anyway until he is 15 or so. How should I help this girl? She is better off or she better owns? Should I tell this lady about her brother? And this box, should I open it? And that couple, so in love, should I leave them be? It is fantasy but what is not? Bandits... let's just be peaceful please? I think I better drink this mad scientist mojo, I think it wil be good for my health. And these kings, both pretty fucked up. Hello lady cuckoo cuckoo care to let Hulkbuster destroy the Shalemaker? Or should we go Age of Ultron all the way? A DOG. A DOG. Helloooo nurse... I mean pirate... and a nun... and this... elfassin. Possessed child, great, haven't I seen this in a movie? Hey random blood mage that I didn't meet in my current origin, wanna help? Nah better ask the beardy mage, how original... Screw it, I'm just going to solve it with SEX. And I mean sex not SAX.
No it is not cole talking.
As I almost cried writting this I am sure, Inquisition will never get close. All side quests and main quests had options, everything you did had an effect. Know what? As much as I like DnD more than Thedas I don't think there was a game better than Dragon Age: Origins (all DLC and Awakening included) when it comes to my deffinition of roleplaying.
