Instead of Stroud why not an Awakening Warden?

I don't know about y'all, but when it came down to the choice between Hawke or Stroud, I barely batted an eye as I chose to save Hawke. I mean, the game didn't even try to get us attached to him, we barely got to know him.

Why didn't they give us Sigrun, Velanna, or seriously Oghren or Nathaniel? ...okay I understand why they didn't use alcoholic, can't take anything serious, Oghren. But Nathaniel seems to be pretty popular.

It could be pretty easily explained as well, "Oh Anders introduced me to one of his old Grey Warden friends/they contacted me because of my friendship with Anders."

Granted, the majority of the people would probably still choose Hawke, but at least it would be a difficult and emotional decision.

Also, it's not like if people didn't play Awakening it would be any different for them, Nathaniel would just be like Stroud to them, and amazing emotional feelings for the rest of us.

Plus, I think it would be a cool throwback to Origins.

What I want to know is what Stroud is doing if Loghain is the warden

Yeah they could have included Oghren so I could hijack my character and have him die...every...single...time.

Your character hardly has more of a chance to get attached to Hawke either.  A short conversation on the battlements?  Sure, you the player may have fond memories of Hawke, but your Inky has had more face time with Cory at that point than with Hawke.

Because they wanted one character with no previous continuity.

I choose Stroud/Loghain over Hawke because

a.) Loghain is a badass

and

b.)  I normally recruit and save the Wardens, so I prefer that they have some semblance of leadership and organization.

They had to have a character who could be dead under no circumstances. All of the Awakening characters could be dead. Therefore adding any of them increases voice acting costs without eliminating the need for Stroud.

I think having so many characters be able to fill this role makes for too many variables. What would be the order of priority? Under what circumstances should, say, Nathaniel be there and not Stroud, Loghain or Alistair?

I honestly do not see a character like Valenna getting herself into this situation. She'd probably just start killing off any Wardens that come her way, and why not? It's not like she hasn't tried to do it before.

I'm not sure what you're on about, because I'm very emotionally attached to that mustache.

Because Oghren and Nathaniel are with The HoF to end the calling. Atleast in my head they are.

Can't argue with that.  My biggest regret about leaving Stroud in the Fade was depriving the world of such a glorious 'stache.

I'm not going to leave , Alistair, Hawk or Nat behind.

But sure, if it'll make you happy, I'll leave Sigrun, Velanna, or Oghren behind to die. I don't play games so I can kill off characters that I like...so I'm glad the game doesn't force us to do that. Stroud is a very good guy, as far as I know, and I'd like to think he's still alive, but at least he isn't someone that I got to know very long.

Too much variables there. What if Velanna, Sigrun and Nathaniel never took the joining? I think you can kill Velanna and Nathaniel yourself. It was simply easier to go with a new character.

Oh, I wasn't suggesting sacrificing characters, but the other two options are Alistair, a companion you got to play with and possibly romance throughout an entire game and, Loghain, the secondary antagonist in DAO who you had the option of sparing, so both of those seem significantly more emotionally fueled than, "here's a new character aaaaaand he's dead." I almost feel gypped because, while I felt bad I had to let him die, I was always going to choose Hawke. Had it been between Hawke and Nate? I would've been crying in my chair.

If you have either Loghain or Alistair, you don't get Stroud, so I'm saying replace Stroud with Nathaniel. That's it. No weird line of succession. Also, yeah I couldn't see Velanna doing it either, definitely Team Nate, maybe Sigrun.

Honestly, it's not like Bioware hasn't brought back possibly dead characters before (Anders.) Actually, if you leave Velanna in Vigil's Keep and you save Amaranthine, she fakes her own death and disappears (the same excuse they used for Anders.)

The same reasonings that were used with Alistair could be used with Nathaniel. Oh, he never did the Joining? Well he could have gone off and done it later, being moved by the HoF, just like how they made Alistair a Grey Warden again by saying he ran off to Orlais to rejoin a group.

And yes, Stroud had a fantastic stache, and I wish I had more time to interact with him, I felt like he would've been a very strong character, but I just didn't get the emotionally choice everyone kept telling me about and it was a letdown.

I just think it would've been a nice treat to give the people that have played through the entire series.

Oghren perhaps should have been Stroud. Yeah. Think about that. How awesome would that have been in DA2? And now in DAI?! Oghren in the Fade! Snarky Hawke being his friend?! Varric would die from jealousy.

I didn't like Oghren's character since he was so...I guess the word I'm looking for is...drunk.  :P   He neglected his obligations, such as his baby and his baby's mom and was extremely rude and crude. I know those things are some of the reasons other folks like him.

I do see leaving him in the fade to fight would be redemption for Oghren and I'd be proud of him for staying there to save others.

After Oghren fights the giant spider, I suspect Varric would get over it.

FYI: Now that some time has passed (most of the people I know aren't exactly the same as they were over 12 years ago,) hopefully the choices my Warden helped Oghren finally get his act together and be the father figure to his Nugget. Frankly It's one of the many reasons why i think bioware is not good at keeping track of consistency, regardless of the blasted Keep's choices they put into this game since it doesn't seem to impact on anything no matter what you pick.

Still if Oghren was in the fade it would be something like this

OGHREN: "HEY INQUISTOR, LET'S KILL THIS THING AND RIDE IT'S CORPSE BACK INTO THE REAL WORLD!"

Inquistor: "Oghren, if it's dead how do we ride it back?"

Oghren: "WE GET OUT AND PUSH!"

God... does anyone here miss Steve Blum? Cause i sure do, makes me believe bioware is too cheap to hire him back. <_< And Steve doesn't have to voice Oghren, remember the other NPCs like Gorim and First Enchanter Irving?

A Grey Warden from the Free Marches makes more sense for what will happen in Orlais than one from Ferelden. I think Stroud is a fine addition.

Thanks, i really don't understand why all the hate for this dwarf other then this crappy "They made Oghren a terrible joke of himself in DAA even after everything I did for him in Origin." excuse.  <_< Doesn't Sera the elf share the same thing cause i see no difference on that.

Also everything from Awakening seems to be forgotten or abandoned or put off till the future for The Architect and all the characters which i doubt Bioware will ever pick it up. We got to see Nathaniel in DA2, but that was it. DA Keep doesn't even have a section for Awakening companions, so there is no way to indicate whether or not they became wardens and if they survived the end of Awakening. I need more resolution for Awakening arcs as well as Oghren seeing that he was a Fan faveroute.

There is only one section for Oghren in DAA section of keep. If he reunited with Felsi or not, but that's about it.  I'm sure Oghren is out there somewhere drinking his self stupid, waiting for the next DA protagonist to wander though his door.
