I'm pretty sure that can be said about a lot of games, including Mass Effect. The story was engaging enough to keep me glued to a screen until the end and I looked forward to see what's next every day. There were very few games that have that effect on me. That counts for something in my book.

As an Action-Adventure/survival game you really have to expect it to be over the top and unrealistic I approached it like I approach an Indiana Jones movie and the story plays out fine like that. Reasonably good game.

The Longest journey, dreamfall, dreamfall chapters are so good.!! i love it very well written people in those games.

The last of us i a beautifull story with strong characters. i cried big times in that game.

The mass effect serie has also that toutch and feeling. again good story and great characters who are gonna be feel like family.

(i miss tat feeling attachment in DAI)

Sorry for my stupid bad English

Probably the best game out that isn't Mass Effect.

Your suggestion and English are fine.  English is a second language for many forumites - and yours is quite readable.  Don't put yourself down - its not good for your self image.  Cheer up!  I speak 3 languages - and the other 2 very badly.  You are doing much better than I am,  :)

Hang in there.

Also, the Deus Ex series.

Well the original (old as it is) and Human Revolution.  Many people would rather forget Invisible War existed.   ;)

I might add, even if it is not the same thing, ICO and Shadow of The Collossus, the former especially almost made me cry, and no other game has come as close. There is something subconscious going on when I play that game that touches me right down to the core.

I'm getting all poetic now, ptth

I enjoyed Invisible War from a story perspective, actually, as did plenty others. Took guts to telegraph its premise, and it resulted in a solid suspense plotline. Shame the RP gameplay and level design were so watered down, though. But yeah, the original and the prequel are better games overall.

The only series that I may be looking forward to more than ME is TES, if not simply because I think Bethesda's track record with The Elder Scrolls is much, much better. If ME3 was an untarnished game, that wouldn't be the case, as Mass Effect is my favorite game series of all time. I'm just highly suspicious of where they take the story, what role the characters play, and so on. Hopeful, but highly suspicious.

I'm surprised you say this.... After Skyrim, I don't have much hope for TES either. My humble opinion is that they streamlined the series too much.

Mass Effect might have been the best series I've ever played. Yes, It got streamlined.. had a bad ending and all that, but I loved it. The characters, the story... the planets, the lore, traveling around the galaxy and of course the music.

Yeah, and remember all those planets you could scan or survey? The texts about them telling little bits of information about the MEU, adding just that little bit to the whole experience. Honestly I loved reading those.

Yes, I forgot to mention that... In ME we could actually land on some planets. I know this was criticized by many players because they considered it useless, but as a sci-fi fan and as an astronomy fan, I always wondered what would the sky look like on other planets, what would it be like to walk on an another planet and this is why I loved this feature so much in ME1. Some planets made my jaw drop.... beautiful design. I was very sad that It was taken out.

Yeah I loved that. Two planets stand out in my mind, the one with twin suns, one red giant the other one tiny and blue and the one with a star that bathed everything in purple light. the only planets I didnt like were the ones where the terrain was crazy, there really was no need to make some of them so hard to drive around.

Hahaha... I was thinking about exactly those planets.I remember them vaguely, but they made me stare at that sky for a long time.

Well, IW's story wasn't exactly bad, but it was a letdown after the first game (and suffered from having three greatly divergent endings in the last game.  Not unlike another certain game...).  And yeah, it's RP and gameplay aspects were greatly "streamlined"  About the only improvement was being able to play a male or female character.

I just recently replayed ME1 so I remember them well.

There is also that planet where it has a companion planet next to it. And the visit to the Moon. X57 was really cool too. There are just too many moments like these. I loved the game, still love it but man do I find some parts of it annoying. Like the wall sticky thing. Or the absence of autmatic saving points especially on higher difficulties.

If you don't mind point and click adventure games, i'd suggest some of Telltale's more recent titles:  The Walking Dead or A Wolf Among Us.

I'd add Tales from the Borderlands & Game of Thrones to that list. I think the first chapter of Tales was probably the best first episode of any series that Telltale has done.

I feel like the deeper pepole read into it the more of them say Tomb Raider 2013 is a load of crap. I haven't played it, but I'd just say, I wouldn't purchase it for its storytelling based on what I have heard.

I suggest you play KOTOR or KOTOR 2 in case you haven't played any of those. Sure, they're old and your protagonist doesn't have a voice but trust me, I played KOTOR 2 for the first time last year and I got sucked right into it. It was deeply immersive and it has some of the best characters I have ever seen in a game.

Loved KOTOR, and I enjoyed KOTOR2 until the end which made no sense if you were "good" and little if you were evil.  But still a good game.  Played KOTOR so many times I had to get a new cd for my xbox and now I have it on my pc.

Jade Empire is another great BioWare game and the characters are interesting, story is good and I'm one of the people hopelessly hoping for a JE2.

I would too.  They're just not complete yet.  Game of Thrones only has two chapters out so far, and Tales only one (#2's been seriously delayed)

Streamlined for the better, in my opinion. Oblivion is a fine game but can be rather clunky and the skill leveling was boring and arbitrary (how many times do I need to jump off Cloud Ruler Temple to get my Acrobatics up?). But it goes well beyond the gameplay: the lore was rich, it was good, it was mostly consistent. The plot was simple, but there was relatively little ambiguity for ambiguity's sake.

ME3 was a great game all-around, but I'm just concerned about the story and lore-related aspects for ME4. On the other hand, if it's more like ME2, then that's splendid.

After adding my voice to Alpha Protocol, I'll add another vote for the Deus Ex series (with an emphasis on Human Revolution As the charcter are more developped in this one) and The last of us. I wasn't expecting much and that game sucker punched me.

The telltales are also very good, less AAA, more intimist and contained, but finely crafted with attention to details. I enjoyed every hours I spent on Wolf Among Us and The Walking Dead (with a preference for he zombie one even if I'm not a fan of the comics and the show). Since I'm not a fan of the episodic format I'll wait For Tales of Borderlands and Game of Thrones to be completed before trying them.

In defense of Tomb Raider, while the story isn't fantastic the scenery and it's integration into the level design is something to be seen. Some sequences could put a block buster to shame. So so story, top notch directing, great atmosphere, it was worth my time. For a better immersion i would recommend using the possibility to "dress" Lara to get rid of the tank top and have her sport the mountain gear, way more believable considering the climate.

Funny story (or ironic one) some friends of mine did lend me Tomb Raider, The Last of Us and the Telltale games just after I bought DAI. Today I have finished Tomb Raider, finished The Last of Us (and bought my own copy), finished the two seasons of Walking Dead and the Wolf Among Us and I still have a hard time continuing with DAI.

Streamlined for the better, in my opinion. As much as I love Oblivion, I do prefer Skyrim. I too think it was streamlined and not dumbed down. There was some serious flaws in Oblivion's RPG innards including the fact that you could torpedo your character if you didn't know how the leveling mechanics worked. Even with the skill simplification you still have 18 skill tree containing 251 perks, that's a lot more than many games today.

I suggest giving a try to the 2013 Tomb Raider game. Also Spec Ops: The Line.

I played Spec Ops. Not bad. Not as good, character wise, as the ME's. But better then most games. It's also a damn fun shooter.

I love Skrim. But I play it on a PC with 192 mods. Besides the environmental/armor/dungeon/skill mods there are some excellent character mods. Like InterestingNPC (which only came out last year I think) which is simply amazing. Characters that interact and have stories and lives of there own. That you (sometimes) sort of fall into.

It's not ME. They are very different games. But I still play Skyrim. And the modding community is alive and strong.

I'd also mention "Life is Strange" by Dontnod (the same developers as Remember Me) is another episodic game dealing with choices having a ripple effect on the game.  With the added twist of time travel, so you can (and are sometimes expected to) go back and change your actions to alter outcomes
