so i start playing as a mage

 

i use a fire staff.

im doing ok early on. 

then i run into enemies were the staff is doing 1 damage,

come to find out i cant switch staff mid battle.

Yeah the resistances on higher difficulties are very hardcore. :c

 

Fire is still your best bet though, only things immune to it iirc is Rage and Dragons. Everything else is either fine, or vulnerable.

Cold is probably worst element in DAI, resisted by darkspawn, undead, and a whole lot of others. including despairs.

Electricity is resisted by spiders, and for some reason, red lyrium creatures. It's a good medium choice, but more enemies are vulnerable to fire than shock.

Fire is still your best bet

The best bet is the Fifth Element - only resisted by Bruce Willis.
