Are You Going To Ever Preorder Again?

I will say that I have made a solemn vow never to preorder any video game ever again.

I enjoy Dragon Age Inquisition, don't get me wrong. But I am seeing a lot -  A LOT - of threads about so many broken, buggy features. And the PS3/360 thread is the saddest thing on Earth, namely those photos of the characters lacking texture pop. Holy crap. That is just....................how could anyone even put a price tag on that? heh.

Anyway, the preordering craze has gotten out of hand. Seems as though preordering is just another way to guarantee money into the pockets of the companies before they've even sold you the game. Preordering used to be a means by which to reserve a game before inventory bottomed out and there were no more copies left. But with digital downloads as popular as they are... preordering is pointless.

I guess the only way these companies can keep you hooked on preordering is by offering some kind of DLC with every preorder. But that just seems shady to me. If they need to entice you to preorder, well.... that's questionable. Games are being released with more and more issues. The preorder crowd has become the paying test audience.

Please, let's stop feeding this beast. Stop preordering. I know I will. :)

If they'd let me pre order MENext now, I would.

Nah, I'm joking. If I preorder (rarely happens, I've only done so three times: Child of Light, Shadow of Mordor and DA:I), I end up doing it in the final weeks before release, when YouTube is already littered with gameplay vids.

Oh and I suppose Dragon Ball Xenoverse counts. I bought it an hour before release :P
And NBA2K15. But I knew exactly what I was getting :P

Nah. Aside from no longer buying physical media for games, there's always enough for everyone to buy anyway, and there's usually no bonus that I really care about in doing so.

Yeah but those videos don't show every bug, glitch, and setback. I think I will skip preordering from any company now - seems like they are all jumping onto this bandwagon of rushing games before they can be fixed. Gaming companies need to go back to asking REAL fans to beta test the game, vs. employees who are under contract.

Probably; depends on the product and other info. While it is not something I do often, I have been pleased with my pre-orders thus far.

Depends on what the bonus content is. I usually like to wait and see some gameplay videos though before I make any decision (I've only ever pre ordered three games, since usually I'm too behind in a series to be in a position to pre order XD)

I pre-order everything I want to play, and I don't intend to stop. I mean, seriously, it's $5.

If I decide I don't want the game on release day, I don't pick it up. The most recent example: The Order: 1886.

Against the direction of the almost rhetorical question: yes, I will. Selectively, but yes.

I will almost certainly pre-order again in the future. It's only a few dollars and comes out of the game price so you are paying the same amount overall.

Nope.

I waited two months for it to be on sale before I bought DA:I. I only ever pre-ordered once, though, so I learned the lesson quickly.

I've never really seen a point in pre-ordering. And, yeah, no more physical media for me either.

If I am 140% sure I buy game I see no reason why not. I preordered Witcher 3 as soon as I can. Don't mater if it is released tomorrow or after 6 months I know I will buy it. There is only few game I am sure I will play Witcher, Everything from Telltale (The walking dead, Game of Thrones, Wolf ....) Dragon age not any more, I expected story suffer from "open world" but not expected it will be so bad. They managed to make worse game than DA2 even removed tactics, game play is so bad it's hard to play. I think I still watch at "ME4" and decide.

I occasionally preorder physical media for completely irrational reasons.

I agree that preorder culture is insane, and I will never understand why people will preorder a game and then complain that they don't have enough info to justify said preorder.

Only pre-ordered a couple of titles and they were major disappointments in one way or another. Being the first on your block nowadays just means beta tester. Even after waiting quite a few months after DA:I was released, hoping the major bugs were found and fixed, I was wrong.

The only game now that I have pre-ordered is the digital version of Witcher 3, not only to finish the trilogy but to support because it won't have any DRM.

More than likely, yes.

If I know I'm going to buy the game on release then I usually do it because it comes out of the game's price, often comes with some neat bonuses and can always be canceled.

YES. And it's only $5 at most places. I am trying and failing to see how $5 is such a huge deal. :P

Eh, I don't pre-order to be blown away. I preorder under the following conditions: 1) I know I will play the game eventually, as I would do with Inquisition (I'm interested in the franchise, so I could actually overlook quality to an extent here), 2) I can afford and am willing to pay for it at full-price, 3) I want to play it fairly early on, which gets rarer as time goes on and I build up a game backlog as it were. If all those criteria are met, sure, I'll pre-order. Why not? I'm not particularly attached to preordering, but not actively against it. (New releases generally don't get this benefit of the doubt concerning the first thing I mentioned, however, so preordering is rare.)

With a big RPG, I'm pretty forgiving on the whole bug-side. Yeah, it'd be better if the testing had removed it, but they were making their own semi-engine, and RPGs are already vast and it's only upon release they get out to that large an audience to test everything. It's why to this day I don't hold it against Skyrim if some fucker flies through the wall.

I won't preorder a PC game again, but a console game? Possibly. Though I don't see much reason to except to support the developer (the goodies for DAI, unless I'm mistake, are still available, after all, and there is no need to make sure I have the last digital copy, lol).

(to Lavaeolus) To be fair, the "some f***ker flew through the wall" can be a rather entertaining bug if you didn't forget to save about an hour's worth of progress ago and needed to talk to the guy.

Yes, if it means that's how I get the bonus content. I'm not a completionist as far as playing the games goes but, I am when it comes to having all of the content for the games I own. (I know I'm the sort game producers and retailers love.)

Considering DAI was the first game I ever preordered from Bioware I'll just go back to waiting for price drops for my games, much cheaper and much less hassle for me that way. The preorder experience was a nightmare (thank you Amazon for that  <_< ) and I really felt the game was not worth the 70-80 dollars I dropped on it. No more preorders for me at least not for Bioware games, though I will more than likely still buy the next DA or ME game after the price on it goes down.

I have ordered several titles before there official release day.  But, it was almost always a few days before.  I am normally taking advantage of release day shipping from Amazon.  Yeah, I still buy physical copies.

However, I would be cautious about pre-ordering another title from bioware for use on the PC.
