I will preorder again, I will back projects on KS again... Etc.

If the question is will I preorder DA4 - now that depends.

After DA2 rubbish I didn't plan to preorder DA3, but Bioware carefully hidden that the game is about Bears so I peordered it thinking it's what they shown in videos.

Thus, when DA4 gets about to be released, I'll come and ask if after DA:Bears we're now getting, dunno, DA:Beavers, DA:Moose or something. If they say, yes you're getting the same endless filler of mobrespawns, I will not preorder that garbage. Will buy only when and if someone makes norespawn mod on it.

With the exception of the DRM-infested ME1, I used to pre-order 2 copies of every Bioware game: one for PC and one for console because my wife and I were both to excited to play to wait for the other to finish before getting our turn with the game. (ME1 I only bought secondhand for console due to the ridiculous DRM).

I had doubts about DA2 but went ahead and pre-ordered as usual. The reason I did that was that during the pre-launch period when the forums were beginning to revolt against the obvious wholesale change in direction, one of the devs asked for fans to give them the benefit of the doubt based on their track record. I thought about it and decided that was a fair enough request from a company like Bioware who had made my favorite game of all time (DAO). So I went ahead and pre-ordered DA2 for both PC and console. My wife is not on the forums and hadn't followed the pre-launch press as much as I had, so she was also confident that we should pre-order two copies as normal.

Well, suffice to say that after playing DA2 my wife independently suggested that next time we only buy one copy as she didn't mind waiting to play the next game. So much for 'confirmation bias': the excitement level for Bioware games was all but extinguished by DA2. I decided to skip pre-ordering at all as I also felt burned by the game. When ME3 came out I was going to buy that for PC (my preferred platform) but then I learned of the mandatory origin integration so I ended up purchasing it secondhand for console as a matter of principle. I took the same approach with Inquisition.

No pre-order. No new-copy purchase while origin integration is mandatory.

A decision that I felt was doubly vindicated when the additional Denuvo DRM was also forcibly inflicted on paying customers.

That's likely going to be the future of my purchasing pattern for Bioware games for the foreseeable future. The games just don't excite my wife or I the way that DA:Origins or ME1/2 did so I don't feel the need to buy 2 copies any more.

I cannot buy new for PC without suffering from EA's DRM-addiction, so I will buy used for console instead if the game looks any good. If Bioware ever decide to make origin an optional component then I'll go back to buying a new copy for PC.

As things stand, the only company I will pre-order anything from currently is CDProjectRed, and some kickstarter-funded games (POE, Numenara, Satellite Reign). So far CDPR has yet to let me down and I appreciate they behave rationally and respectfully when it comes to DRM. That said, if the Witcher 3 turns out to be as grind-y or fetch quest-y as DAI I reserve the right to change my stance on pre-ordering from CDPR too ;)

ME3 was my first and only preorder...

I definitely think I would preorder games from other companies but not from BioWare, not anymore. After the double whammy that was DA2 and ME3, I lost all interest in Mass Effect as a series and told myself I would hold off on buying the next DA until I had watched lets plays and read fan reviews but BioWare was saying all the right things before the game came out and even added race options back in. I thought DA:I would be a return to what I loved about their older games but I was wrong. Now I know better :pinched:

I pre-order everything I want to play, and I don't intend to stop.

Pretty much this. If I am sure that I am going to play a game I always preorder it.

As long as people throw their money at Molyneux's little projects on KS I can pre-order a game I'd buy regardless. How many people pre-ordering PoE, LSC or TW3 had vowed before never to do so?

Wasn't me for sure! As a matter of facts I have 2 of them in preorder since they opened preorders and for the 3rd I am just waiting for a non-steam alternative :P

I pre-ordered ME3 CE but the incomplete ending really turned me off.  So even though I considered the Inquisitor's Edition I ultimately decided to pass, and it looks like I dodged a bullet.  Picked up DAI on sale.  My first impression was pretty good as it was on patch 3 or 4, so many issues were probably fixed and my first experience wasn't ruined.  I might pre-order ME4 if there were enough incentives, but otherwise I wouldn't blindly commit my money unless there was a good enough reason.  Being able to preload the game before it launches isn't good enough.

And let us not forget Torment: Tides of Numenera. Haven't pre-ordered anything yet, but 2015 will truly be a test of willpower in that regard. Don't look at me if the corporate overlords will enslave us all to pay them via microtransactions in a 4 hour game...

I'll say the same thing now that I said before Inquisition was released: I will pre-order the Superduper Special Edition the very instant it becomes possible. At nine o'clock on release day I will be standing outside my local game store with a coffee in one hand a Danish in the other, waiting impatiently for the blinds to roll up so I can get my game NOWNOWNOW. I've loved the previous two three instalments, why wouldn't I assume I'll love the next one too?

Now, that position is certainly subject to change if Dragon Age 4 were to move in a direction that I don't think I'll enjoy - if they took out the fully-controllable party or the pause button or made the whole thing a nug-farming simulator I would not pre-order it. (Although, a nug-farming simulator might be fun ...) But for the moment, I trust the franchise's fantastic track record of delivering games that I personally enjoy.

I rarely pre-order games. In fact, the Dragon Age games, the last few Pokemon instalments are the only games I've ever pre-ordered without playing them first. (Although I did play a demo of DAI at PAX after I'd pre-ordered it.) I figure that if I'm going to play them right away without waiting for reviews, I might as well pre-order and get whatever loot they're offering. I also bought The Secret World after playing it during their last beta weekend. I've also participated in a few Kickstarter projects, including Pillars of Eternity, but that's a slightly different thing. Some of them have delivered games I enjoy and some haven't delivered anything at all (so far) but those are the breaks when you invest in something that hasn't been made yet.

I do think that everyone should be cautious with their pre-orders, as there's certainly potential for disappointment. But at this point I've spent thousands of hours in Thedas in three different games. Unless the developers give me reason to think I won't like the future direction of Dragon Age, I'll happily keep supporting them with pre-orders.

Nope. DAI was my last pre-order. Never again.

There is no good reason to do it. If you are buying a download, you can do that on launch day, and supplies of physical copies never sell out on launch day anymore, so if you want the disc, you can pick it up at your leisure from a shop. All pre-sales does is make the industry more lazy.

Boogie sums up the reasons why pre-ordering is bad pretty succinctly in this video:

I never pre-order.   I prefer to preview after a bunch of other suckers have done nice evaluations.  :)

I might consider pre-ordering if doing so made the pre-ordered games come with exceptional add ons (and I am not talking a throne and a unicorn here).  That is the only scenario where I would consider doing it.  Where there is a potential substantial benefit to the risk.

I will say that I have made a solemn vow never to preorder any video game ever again.

Please, let's stop feeding this beast. Stop preordering. I know I will. :)

I'm with you.  It's a bad habit.  I was totally disapointed on the deluxe and pre-order bonus, compared to DA:O and even DA2.  Next game, I'm not gonna buy on release.

I will continue to pre order games that interest me. I don't pre order many games but the ones I do have nice pre order bonuses or I'm planning to take a few days off work to play and I like to do that for launch day.

I've been pre ordering games with this criteria for years and so far the only game I've ever pre ordered and been disappointed by was FF13.

Generally my decision is based both on the developer and the info I have for the game itself, for example as much as I love BioWare, I was probably never going to buy Shadow Realms, it seemed like a cool world but the gameplay didn't interest me or as much as a like Elder Scrolls, I didn't get Elder Scrolls Online, because I lost enough of my life to WOW, I can't risk another MMORPG.

So yeah, unless MENext or DA4 takes a horrible turn, I'll pre order them. I'll also pre order Fallout 4 and FF15.

Hey, what's the difference between that and a regular pre-order? Either way you're going to give them your money before you're going to play the game.

On a related note, anyone else thinking about waiting until all of the free DLCs for TW3 are done before buying it?

If you want a reason to not pre-order I would suggest using Assassin's Creed: Unity, Compared to that Inquisition is a flawless gem considering how small the actual issues are.

AC:U was a disappointment for me, and I had pre-ordered it. But alas, I'm not going to let that one experience ruin things for me. Forever the optimist. :D

I've never had an issue with a game I pre-ordered, but that's because I pre-order very rarely and only when I know for a fact I will enjoy the offering of the company. I can't say Bioware's ever disappointing me in a way that I would ever have been dissuaded from buying the game. Even if someone said ME3's ending was total garbage I wouldn't have spoiled myself. So I would have gotten it anyway, and that's the only Bioware game I've never replayed.

I'm not going to buy the game if they don't fix the issues with it. With a preorder, I've already paid for the game whether the issues are fixed or not. That is the difference. ;)

Hey, what's the difference between that and a regular pre-order? Either way you're going to give them your money before you're going to play the game.

The difference is *when* you give them money - if you think that this factor doesn't matter, I suggest you go talk to your bank about an interest free loan, which is what a pre-order amounts to (you hand over the cash a few months before you otherwise would have).

Instead of paying you interest (as they would be if they had to get the money from banks), they create a nice hat for you, which is not a bad deal for the developer.

Then there are obvious considerations like the fact that you are going to get more information about the game after it has been released (if you buy after the game has been released, you can watch Youtube Let's Plays before you buy, check out the forums, read Steam reviews, etc)
