I will continue to pre order games that interest me. I don't pre order many games but the ones I do have nice pre order bonuses or I'm planning to take a few days off work to play and I like to do that for launch day.

I've been pre ordering games with this criteria for years

^  This pretty much sums up the approach I take to pre-ordering games.  If a game has what I consider to be a nice incentive to pre-order, then I will usually do so.  All this typically requires is a small $5.00 deposit.  If I change my mind, I can always get my $5.00 deposit refunded.  My most recent pre-order cancel was the Collector's Edition ($80.00) of The Order:  1886.  After finding out the game could be completed in roughly 5 - 6 hours and watching some YouTube Let's Play videos, I decided that the price just wasn't worth it to me.  In that situation, I had paid the full amount but got the money refunded...

After Dead Island: Riptide I swore to myself that i'd never pre-order. Then I pre-ordered DA:I and unlike steam games hasn't yet dropped in price.

I've enjoyed the game.

Now I just need to convince myself to pre-order the Witcher 3

"Are You Going To Ever Preorder Again?"

Never had and never will. I don't have the time to take chances on promisses or spend money without being at least halfway picky about which games I buy at full price.

Well that's no longer entirely true. I USED to not have the time but sense medical issues arose I have tons of time but I'm pretty much set in my ways now.

Which is why I get irate when reviewers are not detailed enough about game problems, which is where I usually get my info.

I meen I could be spending that 60-100 bucks on 2-3 other games that are proven to be enjoyable over the years.

No, I'm not. Mostly because after I bought the Extended Edition for $70, the game went on sale for $40 to celebrate winning game of the year. That ticked me off to no end. I did get some music, but the armor and the mounts don't do anything for me. So no, not going to do that in the future.

I will say that I have made a solemn vow never to preorder any video game ever again.

I enjoy Dragon Age Inquisition, don't get me wrong. But I am seeing a lot -  A LOT - of threads about so many broken, buggy features. And the PS3/360 thread is the saddest thing on Earth, namely those photos of the characters lacking texture pop. Holy crap. That is just....................how could anyone even put a price tag on that? heh.

Anyway, the preordering craze has gotten out of hand. Seems as though preordering is just another way to guarantee money into the pockets of the companies before they've even sold you the game. Preordering used to be a means by which to reserve a game before inventory bottomed out and there were no more copies left. But with digital downloads as popular as they are... preordering is pointless.

I guess the only way these companies can keep you hooked on preordering is by offering some kind of DLC with every preorder. But that just seems shady to me. If they need to entice you to preorder, well.... that's questionable. Games are being released with more and more issues. The preorder crowd has become the paying test audience.

Please, let's stop feeding this beast. Stop preordering. I know I will. :)

DAI was my fourth BW pre-ordered game in a row (yeah, I know, pretty stupid, but I somewhat enjoyed the previous 3) and it was my last pre-ordered game ever. I could somehow deal with me being disappointed because I didn't exactly got what I wished for, but I can't forgive being lied to straight to my face (and there are proofs we were lied to constantly by BW/EA).

In hindsight the last two years (and especially 2014, but 2015 started off pretty terribly as well) was a huge eye-opener when it comes to big game releases and I can say that everybody still pre-ordering games today from companies like EA, Ubisoft, Activision, etc. is a damn fool and one of the reasons why the AAA gaming industry is so rotten.

It is absolutely despicable to trick people into paying for a game in advance and then release a clearly unfinished product just for the quick cash - and boy there are now many examples of this - WD, AC:U, The Crew, Rome 2 Total War, BF4, Destiny, Titanfall, SimCity, Sims 4, NHL, FIFA, DAI, Evolve, Order 1886 and so on.

While I'm not enthused about the next DA game I really enjoy the new game excitement and the hype before the game and after game commentary.  I'd say that's worth at least 20 dollars for me and I also like the extra goodies you get by pre-ordering or in the last case getting the deluxe edition.  I still plan to buy the next DA game.

I probably won't ever pre-order DA games again. Most of the pre-ordering for the DA games is due to the bonus goodies they'll give you.

Which isn't worth it if you face a bugged game or a game that's unplayable due to the framerate, never mind if it feels boring inside the world where all you're doing is fetching someone a golden bear ass.

I would much rather these bonus goodies be a separate DLC I could purchase, all in one bundle. At least then I could get them when I want, after I'm satisfied with the game.

Alternatively, I'll just order from Amazon and get the special editions brand new to get the goodies, once I get a review from a reliable source -- meaning friends.

(and there are proofs we were lied to constantly by BW/EA

Not that I disagree with you as I've said the same thing about DAII in the past, but what ones can you point out?

Hey, what's the difference between that and a regular pre-order? Either way you're going to give them your money before you're going to play the game.

Are you serious now? :D And yet some people wonder, why others might take you for an [insert random big publisher] supporter / affiliate :D

By pre-ordering you are trusting them they'll provide the quality product they promised. But when they do not deliver in that regard and in fact lied to you and tricked you, there is no way for you to hold them accountable for it. * And there is no way to know, if they will actually fix the game later, because nothing compells them to do it - since they already have your money and that was the only reason why they want you to pre-order their games.

By waiting you can either save some money (because of sales, often very shortly after the release, like DAI or by waiting for g2a keys to drop in price) or you can discover the company in fact didn't care at all and didn't bother to fix the game as they should have done and you can save even more money by avoiding said game completely.

* I believe in EU if you buy a retail version of the game online, you can return it in 14 days without any reason, but you can't do that in every country in the world

* There is also the Origin great game guarantee, but for that you have to buy the game via Origin and that means in EU spending more than US players. And at least in my country it also means spending 33% more than in local retail store.

Maybe. If it comes with a cool toy like my Fable 3 good/evil coin. I love that coin.

I'll never pre-order a Mass Effect game again, that's for sure. After Hudson and crew's various lies about ME3 before release, I can never trust them again.

As for DA, the series has never disappointed me (even DA II). So I'm comfortable with pre-ordering whatever main DA title they come out with.

Not that I disagree with you as I've said the same thing about DAII in the past, but what ones can you point out?

Spoiler

- the combat hud being created specifically for the PC, the tac cam is the same as you would expect from Origins

Spoiler

- basically at least half the things they said were not true and almost all of the things they have shown, it actually looked like like a dynamic weather would be in the game, your decisions would actually matter and you would be able to see them, the world would react to your decisions, and so on... also the whole area is not in the game

- btw as a curiosity, look at the top of the screen (for example at 3:00), seeing something familiar from a different game? :D

And then there are countless PR articles and posts all over the internet. Also the whole debacle with Collector's Editions and Xbox360/PS3 version of the game is really sad. There were promises how those versions will run just fine and then came promises how they will be fixed for sure and how the PC controls would be improved. 3 and a half months later and we got nothing... oh wait, we got walk toggle button for PC, the one that console players have had since launch :D

Cost is always my first concern.  It just so happens that certain vendors sell pre-orders at an almost 50% reduction.  Certainly cheaper than I can expect for the next year or so after release.

If it's a dragon age coin, as an extra bonus it will come out broken!

I generally pre-order games that I know I'm going to get and keep anyway.

Lol :D Well, there was one (imo) cool thing I got for DAI pre-order from my local retailer - a custom-made DA-themed coffee mug (I'd guess stainless steel on the inside, probably resin on the outside, it is really light, but hey, don't look a gift horse in the mouth). And it came in one piece, because BW or Gamestop had nothing in common with it :D

(to Jeffry) Oh man, that does look sweet!

I can't really complain about my experience with Gamestop since the one where I live had a guy who checked each edition to see if anything was broken so customers wouldn't wind up with broken items.

Sadly, yes. It's pretty telling when a collectors edition of a non-AAA title has superior quality collectors editions.

It's not something I make a habit of. In fact, I rarely buy games new at all.  Usually pre-order is something I gift to a game publisher that has impressed me on a regular basis.  Otherwise, I prefer to wait until a game goes on sell.  That way if I don't like it, or I only kind of like it, I never feel cheated.

With Bioware, I don't know.  Dragon Age Inquisition was the first game of theirs I bought new, and I loved it.  I have not yet played a game of theirs I didn't like.   With all that said, I also approach game buying with measured expectations, and sometimes I feel like the whole pre-order concept, combined with the rest of the hype machine, creates unrealistic expectations.

We will see how I feel when the new Mass Effect roles around.
