But those lies before DAI were really sweet and convincing
There were even awesome PAX demo videos, we were assured how PC controls and tac cam would be handled just like we are used to them, and even the youtubers I trust were really excited once they got the chance to play the game.

One of the dev even explained, in a thread, how customizing the keeps you capture works only two days before release. Very odd that he didn't know it had been cut.

Wait, for real? I could not even forgive them it was hyped in a 2013 video as a core feature of the game, but this? Oh boy, BW what have you done. (It has EA approach written all over it tho)

I very rarely pre-order games.
BF4, ME3, DA:I are the last 3 games I've pre-ordered.
Well I've also pre-ordered TW3 too.
And I'll probably pre-order the next Mass Effect game too.

Yeah, for real. It was in one of the video threads. A rather long one where Laidlaw and Darrah (I think it was) is playing the game and showing off the gameplay. I asked a dev in the thread about the keeps etc in the thread about that video. Since the vid didn't show that stuff. If I remember correctly we could custumize our keeps to be more military keeps, keeps used for trade, and keeps used for a "spy network". Something like that. And our choices would matter, of course.

Oh man, this is some sad stuff. I just hope they still have some hint of integrity left in them. I hope they know their actions were wrong, since they have done nothing but mislead and tricked us. I hope they just couldn't disobey EA's orders.
For all the hate Ubisoft has gotten for WD and ACU (and deservedly) in the last year, EA should have received the exactly same amount. I have no idea why it wasn't so.

(to Jeffry) To be fair, EA does recieve a huge amount but either dismisses it or when they try to better, they end up wildly misinterpretating the criticisms and make even worse decisions. I think the ones who have the final say positions are the example of people who knows a thing or two about business but not about this specific business and so fails to combine a sense of business with a sense of what their business is, in this case games and gamers.
Those who do know a thing about it cannot reach the people in the final say positions because of various reasons, one of which being that they are ignored or because of everything that becomes lost or muddied by the people in-between.
Some decisions are hugely profitable in short run like releasing anticipated titles at holidays or when competition is at a low but can be damaging in the long run like releasing games that need more time and which developers are aware of this but unable to really have a say and so their reputation suffers, damaging their relationship with their fanbase and customerbase.

Shareholders / stakeholders have the final say and as you said, they understand busininess, but haven't got a clue when it comes to video games.
The problem is, at EA they really don't care about their relationship with their fans and customers, nor do they care about their reputation (unless law suits could be filed agaisnt them). They know they will be making money years from now and they know that with hype / PR they will bring in more people than they chase away.
Something like this:
And well, EA receives their standard amount of hate almost constantly, I meant it that for 2013/4 they deserved way more, since their every major title was unfinished buggy mess to some extent and we basically beta tested their products for them. I don't really feel Ubisoft has done that much worse to take all of the hate for 2014.

and here i thought the pre-order thingy exists to
1) fool customers into buying unfinished/poor quality product after boosting the hype with shady marketing practices
2) sell the software before someone cracks it
it's soothing, i suppose: naive and innocent people still exist somewhere
oh you're one of those - why pay for game if someone cracked it, well hmmm good for you?
It is wrong giving money to someone in advance if you have no control over the product or don't have any true insight over it. You are trusting their promises. When history and very recent one points to the fact big publishers don't live up to them, they don't care about them. Nothing compells them to release a polished product or to fix it post-launch, they already have the money and that is the only thing they care about.
If you can't see anything wrong with that, then you are awfully naive and gullible to say the least.
ofc you're trusting them, that's why you preorder. You want that game and you want to show this company that you believe they make great game. There is a huge difference if only 100 people preorder or 1 million does. In the former case they would just finish the game, slap it on market and be done with it before it's released. In the later case they would start preparing for additional content immediately. Besides you can return any EA game within 24 hours after you install it (or if you pre order within 7 days after release, whichever come first) therefor there is no risk for you. You don't like it? Well here's your money back, no questions asked...

If we are dealing with major devs/publisher here, they have their DLCs planned out anyway (starting with cut content) for all their major games, since they know they will sell buttload of copies no matter what.
You can only return it to EA if you bought it via Origin. And I many times said buying stuff on Origin is more than 33% more expensive around here than buying it from any local retail store. Why the hell would I buy it on Origin then. Also because I live in EU, if I buy a physical copy of a game online, I can then return it in the next 14 days. But you can save yourself all that hassle, if instead of blindly trusting all those crooks you do some research on the product first. And you can only do that after release. You can only see the actual number of bugs after release, etc.
My point also was that trusting them is what is wrong with this practice. It is also naive and not in the good, cute or charming way. They don't care about anything but your money. They don't care if you enjoyed their game and will buy the next one as well, because if you won't, 2 more people will.
If you just like throwing money at people you can't and should not ever trust because they are just a bunch of liers or you are made of money, by all means, pre-order away
But it is as irrensponsible as a customer behaviour can be and it is damaging the video game industry for every player out there, yourself included, since all those companies are becoming more complacent. Just look at all those stuff they were able to get away with in the past 2 years. BF4 was a completely broken mess after launch, but will it stop people from pre-ordering SW: BF3 like there is no tomorrow? No. Will fanboys stop pre-ordering AC games after they saw that AC:U abomination? No. But they should.

DA4/ME4 i'll have to wait and see the gameplay/story, spoil a lot of things ect ect.. I'm much more likely to invest in a kickstarter project then this.

I preordered once, I'll preorder a thousand, thousand, thousand times. I don't worry over graphics, minor glitches, or the like. To this day I still play the head bobbing, no mouth moving PS1 Metal Gear game. I won't stop ordering just because something MAY go wrong. I might break my neck after I slipped down my icy porch steps... I could, but I still need milk, food, and need to go to work.

Nope!
This was my first full priced game since Fallout New Vegas (after which I swore I would never buy a game at full price again), I did and still do enjoy playing it - but it's not the epic game I was hoping for, somehow it just doesn't quite feel like Dragon Age to me, and I'm still waiting for that connection - who knows, maybe they'll release an epic DLC and I'll be satisfied.
But as it stands, no - I shall be going back to buying my games 2nd hand when they're a fraction of the retail price.

Here for those that couldn't find a review from TB. Starts at 8 minutes... ish. And it's not technicaly his review but just his thoughts after around 60 hours.
Prolly the most we'll get out of him on this game it sounds like. Just thought some folks might enjoy. Was a biatch to find. ![]()

I'm drifting towards avoiding games entirely until they're fully patched, all the DLC is released and it can be picked up for a bargain price (e.g. steam sale for GOTY edition). I don't mind waiting 1-2 years if it means I get the "complete" experience and save some money at the same time - I would've enjoyed ME3 a lot more if I had the Extended Cut, Leviathan and Citadel on the first playthrough.
