The point is that there is no real reason to take away the children of mages. And in those cases I don't see why you can't have a tutor if the parents are unwilling to let the child go.

The parents, and neighbours are the ones who alert the templars sweetheart.

See how those children endanger their life while casting the spells in front of them.

In my opinion, thera are only two options when it comes to mages and templars: Conscription and disbanding the order. None of them deserves better.

I thought Malcolm was actually a good example considering he raised Bethany (and a mage Hawke) without any problems. And quite a few parents will do bad things to protect their children, except in the case of mages they have to constantly worry about whether their children will get taken away. Perhaps if that threat wasn't there...

But that is just it, isn't it?

Malcolm is an exemplary mage despite not being in a Circle and yet, even him was leadarrow-10x10.png to use blood magic for the sake of his family. If he can fall, anyone can.

And while you are right most parents will do bad things to protect their children, most parents don't have access to a mage's destructive powers.

Oh right, only mages can kill and sell people, obviously, Castillion and Isabela are mages too! The final point is that you are cherry picking on the mages when the mundane are absolutely no better then them.

Castillion is charming i can forgive him, Fiona no has to die.

And yet, the events of Asunder and the other suplementary material show that Anders was 100% right.

The Templars attacked a peaceful conclave Justinia had called to find a way to prevent the war. They murdered an unarmed, surrendering mage in cold blood, thus causing the mages to fight back, sparking the Circles to break away completely and starting the war in the first place. Before that incident, most of the Fraternities wanted to stay with the Circle, even after Meredith's actions. Fiona's Libertarian fraternity did not have the votes to separate. Afterwards, ALL of the fraternities but the Loyalists decided enough was enough, and voted to dissolve the Circle and break away from the Chantry. The Templars were directly responsible for the war and the Circles breaking away.

The Templars later annulled the Circle in Rivain. Killed every mage there, for the 'crime' of the mages actually being able to visit with their families. They launched an unprovoked attack on Andoral's Reach, a fortress home to mostly refugees trying to stay out of the fighting.

You still want to pretend that the Templars were not out of control, that they didn't abuse their power?

The system was broken, the Circles were an atrocity, and Ander's actions proved it.

The Templars were fanatics. The were specifically chosen for how fanatical they were. Nothing else mattered. Not their fighting ability, not how moral they were, not even how much they actually understood the religion, none of that mattered. How fanatical and extreme they were was ALL the Chantry cared about.

The Chantry had the same criteria for selecting Templars as al Queda does for it's people. The Templars were so extreme, so fanatical, they wanted to overthrow the Divine and take control of the Chantry themselves, and were perfectly willing to kill innocent people, mage and non-mage, to do it.

These are the... things you are defending.

He did it at swordpoint. It's not a matter of failure.

And if Leandra had fallen sick and the only cure was a blood magic ritual that required human sacrifices?

Wouldn't he have done it?

What Larius proved is that even the best mage can break. All it takes is the right incentive.

I don't see how that matters, mages are not the only people that break under preassure. Zevran killed countless people as an crow because his trainers pushed him into that path. Is he better then an blood mage?

It matters because we have seen eight years old kids becoming possessed and destroying whole towns.

Imagine what would have happened had Uldred become an Abomination in Denerim.

With Leliana as the divine it makes you wonder how the abominations, and criminal mages would be handled without a specialized task force.

I guess you don't know, but....would that work if the peace is made only between Briala and Celene? I think you get a different War Table operation if the three of them make peace (thus no Amulet of Power?).

It would still work. Cassandra greatly approves with peace between Briala and Celene. As long as everything else I listed is done as well.

The only option that doesn't support Cassandra at all during the quest Wicked Hearts and Wicked Eyes is Briala ruling. She doesn't dig that.

I don't know about the Amulet of Power though, sorry.

Interesting thread. :)

. Not Everton wants to side with he Templars

It's not necessarily "siding" with either the mages or the Templars. It's "do we shoot more magic at the breach or try to suppress it?"

Additionally, in my mind, if you conscript either the mages or templars, you are stuck down a specific viewpoint. What do I mean by this ? I mean if you conscript them you clearly take the law and order approach. Now that is all nice and fuzzy but what happens when you move beyond mages or templars ? What about the Grey Wardens ? What about Orlesian rulers ? Will your law and order philosophy hold then ? Will you banish the Wardens ? I mean, you did not believe in second chances sufficiently to ally with either mages or templars so why do it for the Wardens ? Will you only ally with Gaspard since he is the potential ruler that is all about law and order.

I don't see these as really related. This playthrough I conscripted the Templars. I'mma tell the Wardens to GTFO, however, because they're still susceptible to Cory's influence -- nothing to do with second chances or not, my Quiz is just pragmatic. Gaspard overthrowing the currently installed Empress would probably cause more chaos, so Celene will be supported, etc.

This. For instance, what possible reason is there for telling mages they can never have children and if they do, they can never raise them and will never see them again.

Magic seems to be genetically passed on, based on Dorian's "careful breeding" spiel. They don't want mages making more baby mages. It's mean, but that's the reasoning.

-------

I do feel like allying with either side is an emotional, rather than logical, choice (over conscripting).

She doesnt, only Cassandra reforms the Seekers (if the Inquisitor doesnt tell her to let them go).
Leliana has no plan against abomination or rogue mages.

The fact that he was a loving father and husband who had already used blood magic to protect his family before.

Why you dont do to? If you dont tell Cassandra to rebuild them, Leliana doesnt do it.
Seekers not rebuilt
Leliana is Divine
This allows them to leave and reform the Templar Order to truly serve the people, independent of outside control.

The ritual that Hawke did is a far-cry from human sacrifices. One cannot assume he would commit the latter with any certainty.

Yes, but you will need to support her and make dialogue choices to up her approval. If you dont Vivienne will take the throne.
