It is kind of odd that Corypheus doesn't notice Solas if he had met him previously. He recognised Dorian as being from Tevinter and calls him a traitor. He says stuff to other companions as well; I just don't always catch all of it but I know he didn't say anything to Solas. Then again it may be that the Dread Wolf looked different to Cory when he gave him the orb, or may be just spoke to him through the Fade and told him where to find it.
Dorian mentions how these Focii were known in ancient Tevtiner and Solas says that they probably learnt it from the elves, so it makes sense that Cory would know how to activate one. Solas may not necessarily have expected him to use it the way he did. Unlocking its power seemed to require a blood sacrifice, yet Solas says he doesn't do blood magic, so may be that is why the result was so much greater than he probably wanted. However, it is likely it will only be made clearer in the next instalment of the story (hopefully).
Actually, Cory does speak to Solus. But he just throws out a couple of pretty general insults, nothing more. xD
Maybe it doesn't require blood magic to activate, but using blood magic enhances its abilities or effects? Orrr maybe as a Magister Cory just assumed it required blood magic, since that was kind of their thing. XD Maybe as he has more limited power than the gods likely did, humans or modern day mages would require such a ritual to use an orb? Hopefully, indeed!
